Exactly one week on - happy 'leavers' how are we all feeling?

Wow what a week Grin
I'm still walking on air & soooooo happy we're leaving, just want A50 triggered ASAP!

OP posts:
SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 09:40

The Tories are behaving far more grown up than labour at the mo

Labour are not doing themselves any favours I agree - but I struggle to see how Cameron slinking off, then Boris, and then Gove deciding that despite never having wanted to be PM, he's the man for the job and not the man he said he'd support, is especially 'grown up'!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 09:41

It is getting tiresome though to continue to read about leavers & remainers - it's happened, time to stop living in the past & move on imo

Why on earth did you come on the thread then?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 09:41

Elements I know - and then they complain that people might think they're not very bright!

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 09:41

Surfer, list the positives of staton in the EU? Well, people have been talking about the academic funding and research that could continue, they have talked about the job losses caused by Brexit which would be averted. That Telegraph article makes it very clear that leaving the EU jeopardises workers' rights and social protection. Preserving those is an enormous benefit of staying in the EU.

Racism, disenfranchisement, divisions in society - these were exacerbated by the referendum but not invented by it. They will not be healed or soothed by leaving the EU. They are overwhelming problems which we have to face whether we stay or leave.

MangoMoon · 01/07/2016 09:43

Why on earth did you come on the thread then?

To answer the question & say that: Yes, I'm still happy.
Which I did.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 09:44

Off you pop then! Don't want to read anything that might burst your bubble of unknowing, do you?

originalmavis · 01/07/2016 09:44

Where do you think your company or private pension is invested, or your savings? Oh, are you relying on the state to look after you in your old age? State pension - the one that probably won't exist by the time we get to retire, or council housing, of which there just won't be enough as people are buying them up and they are not being replaced.

Who will wipe your bum in the retirement home when there is nobody willing to do this for the same pay as they'd get working on MacDonalds?

Or maybe you will retire to Spain on your pension? Oh hang on...

TheElementsSong · 01/07/2016 09:45

time to stop living in the past

You mean like "Make Britain Great Again" and "Take Back Control" and "I want my country back"?

& move on imo.

Sure - what's the Plan? Who's in charge? Apart from the common ground of "Leave the EU", how about the Leavers collectively decide exactly what the hell they want, then we can Move On and Pull Together and all that slogany feel-good stuff.

MangoMoon · 01/07/2016 09:47

I did actually say what my hope for moving on is, but it obviously got lost in all the screaming.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 09:47

So, I listed just a few positives of staying in the EU. The positives of leaving are apparently that 'the sun is still rising' (great, the lack of apocalypse makes me feel soooo much better), that some 'rich twats' are less rich - though let's be clear that they won't be suffering the effects of recession, loss of employment rights and Gove's take on austerity anywhere near as much as the poor will feel it and that some things were shit anyway so making them shitter is a good idea - ?????

originalmavis · 01/07/2016 09:48

When people say 'make Britain great again' does anyone else get the mental picture of a cherry cheeked Miss Marple cycling down country roads past little thatched cottages with the local Bobby waving at her?

Bearbehind · 01/07/2016 09:49

mango your only 'hope' now we've voted to leave is 'that a Tory leader is announced soonest'

Really Hmm

Millyonthefloss2 · 01/07/2016 09:50

Well fuck off, the leavers won ! Stick that up your rich twats and blow away the cobwebs. Or realise that the economy needed a kick up the arse. And maybe change is not such a bad thing.

Grin Grin Grassgreen, you are very rude but also very wise.

Please can we stop pretending that the markets have not bounced back (including the FTSE 250). The EU needed to reform urgently. Now it probably will. Change is a good thing, of course it is. If you leave unelected officials in position for years and years corruption will prevail.

As for the racists, the Queen needs to say something to shut them up. She made a speech after the Scottish referendum. Apparently Cameron told her not to this time. Why?

AndNowItsSeven · 01/07/2016 09:50

you are" soooo happy" Surfer, are you also 12?

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 09:51

But on the Game of Thrones point, I've been off work and read half the books whilst all this has been going on. The politics in Westeros have seemed increasingly mild in comparison to what has now become reality and I'm expecting Boris to fly in on a dragon and get off with his own sister any minute now - pretty much anything seems plausible in these very odd times!

Surferjet · 01/07/2016 09:52

I can't give you any concrete 'news' that the economy has improved since Brexit - but this isn't about the value of shares & pensions for most people. From interviews I've seen on TV, for every unhappy remainer interviewed there's a happy leaver - that's news, it reports everything. ( although C4 news seems massively biased towards the remain camp )

A week on, you're not going to see much improvement, that will take months if not years, I'm not stupid enough to think everything would be sorted within a month, this was a long term view & I'm still confident I've made the right decision & our country will be far better out of the EU.

OP posts:
CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 09:52

Oh, the Queen can solve racism? Great! That is honestly the stupidest thing I think I've heard anyone say so far in this whole conversation and I include my comment about Boris and the dragon in that.

Bearbehind · 01/07/2016 09:53

i'm still confident I've made the right decision & our country will be far better out of the EU.

But why? Is that hope based on any more than blind faith? I don't sound like it.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 09:54

Oh so your positive news is that people who wanted this are happy it's happened?

We get six pieces of news on how we're not going to get free trade without free movement of people, how there's been another racist attack, how companies are moving out of the country, how we have no leader in either major party, and how the union is breaking apart - but hey, we get a grinning underthinker who is happy, and that cancels it out?

You are not doing very well here.

MangoMoon · 01/07/2016 09:55

Yes, do feel free to pick out just a few words to suit your agenda.

After just one week, with all the political turmoil currently underway it is impossible to speculate long term.

So, short term:

  1. New PM & chancellor.
  1. Create Brexit team which should include representation from cross party as well as NI, Welsh & Scottish representation to complement the professional negotiators & civil service representatives.
  1. Invoke Article 50.

Anything other than that is speculation at this point, and pointless.
The time for 'them & us' has passed.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 09:56

So, surfer, I know it's a fast moving thread but you asked for positives of staying in the EU and I gave you the academic funding, the jobs that will be lost to Brexit and the protection of employment rights - I'm interested to know how these are outweighed by the positives of leaving? Surely your feeling of 'walking on air' is based on more than just a feeling that things will be better long term? How will that be the case when we lose the thins I've listed above?

MangoMoon · 01/07/2016 09:57

That was in response to BearBehind and her humphy faced response to me.

Bearbehind · 01/07/2016 09:58

I'm not picking out words to suit my own agenda.

Are you seriously saying your only hope is just to have a team to invoke article 50?

You have no 'hopes' for what will actually look like?

God help us.

Surferjet · 01/07/2016 09:58

Three excellent advocates for the leave campaign - these strong women spoke so much sense about how 'ordinary' people feel. People of all races & colours.
Maybe you should stop listening to Nigel Farage & broaden your horizons.

Exactly one week on - happy 'leavers' how are we all feeling?

JudyCoolibar · 01/07/2016 09:59

I'm looking forward to the reaction of the happy leavers as the tax rises hit their pay packets, their holidays get more expensive, jobs disappear all over the country, and they discover that the £350m isn't going to the health service, we're still subject to EU trading rules and we still allow freedom of movement for EU citizens.
