Anyone agree?

OP posts:
Vri123 · 04/07/2016 11:08

I think you are prejudiced and its colouring your statements. I don't really like Farage, or his way of agitating (although I do think it has been effective). So, I don't want to defend him but I think you should be careful before you go bandying words like racist about.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 11:10

One thing it is not is prejudice. It is a view purely on his actions and speech.

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/07/2016 11:12

Farage is too much of an attention seeking goon to retire from UK politics. Sadly.

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 11:12

'I liked how she handled Andrew Marr yesterday. She clearly is able to think on her feet as he was trying to knock her off balance'

"Vri" - yes I did too. Yes speaks quite genuinely and is non defensive and I enjoyed listening to her.

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/07/2016 11:16

'I think you should be careful before you go bandying words like racist about.'

It would take Nige from now until Doomsday to take everyone who's described him as being a racist to task. If you're reading Nigel let me just say that I think you're xenophobic wanker and a tumour in our politics.

RosesareSublime · 04/07/2016 11:23

I think he is not so far removed from the public schoolboy whose teacher reporting him singing fascist songs on a school trip. He's just a bit more careful what he says now.

^^ Oh lord and Owen Jones was supporting IRA terrorists blowing people up as necessary collateral - oh - at 16?

V agree with her dealing really well when put on the spot.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 11:35

Owen Jones has nothing to do with this, and has firmly retracted.

Nigel Farage has continued in the same way for the rest of his life. Recent statements confirm this.

Andrea has 'no allegiances to UKIP,' she's just funded by them and the BNP Hmm

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 12:15

In that case, Nigel Farage has nothing to do with this either as its a discussion about Andrea Leadsom and the Tory leadership contest.

I thought she did well in her speech this morning. I believe she'll make a good PM, if given the chance. We need someone with ambition for the country but with her head screwed on, rather than empty rhetoric.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 12:26

Er...

Andrea Leadsom refuses to rule out Nigel Farage on brexit talks

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 12:39

She has repeatedly refused to discuss who if anyone will get which job should she become PM, although it would be hard to imagine what job she could give to a MEP for another party.

As far as I know she has not ruled out or ruled in giving a job to any person on the planet, so what makes Nigel Farage special?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 12:47

He was part of the Leave EU campaign.

He's supporting her, along with his UKIP cronies.

He's just resigned.

Lots of reasons he could be discussed on this thread. I didn't bring him up, someone else did.

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 13:52

and she was part of the Vote Leave campaign - two different campaigns.

If you think it needs discussing, then it needs discussing, but I just can't see any substance to the story that UKIP and Farage are involved in AL's campaign, so its hard to see what the concern is?

chicaguapa · 04/07/2016 13:56

Vri123 She quoted the £350m a week figure and Dimbleby pulled her up on it as a lie. Then she said it again just moments later. Hmm

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 14:14

The fact that she is good at being nible on her feet in interview and avoiding questions is NOT a good reference point.
Nor is the fact she voted against same sex marriage. Nor she campaigned (after changing her mind about it) to land us in the shit we are in and also face in the future.

Nope, she's not coming recommended and anything like competent.

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 14:15

or nimble on her feet. Not suggesting she indulges in self-canabalisation on national television.... though if it meant getting into power...

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 14:46

Watched her speech today. Very uplifting and refreshing I thought. A quote here I like from it -

"What I’d like to say to them is please don’t be afraid - we haven’t lost our sense. We haven’t stopped caring about each other, we haven’t stopped loving our families and our children, we haven’t stopped loving our country either - we’ve just rediscovered our freedom. "

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 15:02

'she campaigned (after changing her mind about it) to land us in the shit we are in and also face in the future.'

From what I understand I think she changed her mind having worked on the Fresh Start Project to study and research the EU - and looking at reforming it. She says her change of mind was evidence based.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 15:12

Inkanta, do you realise the reason she sounds uplifting?

Its because she's doing the same unicorn selling hot air that Leave did. Its depressing.

What has she actually said there? NOTHING. Not one thing. Lots of empty promises to everyone. Its the height of popularist bollocks.

'Here have a hug, Inkanta'.
'Do you feel all warm and fuzzy now?'
'Vote for me.'

History tell us to beware of the one who promises the earth in a political vacuum.

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 15:18

So despite the 'evidence' and 'research' opportunity she still campaigns for the pile of poo we have.
Nothing yet to recommend her. Apart from the ability to say reassuring cuddly things.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/07/2016 15:21

The safest thing for the country as a whole is a "coronation" of Teresa May, as quickly as possible.

I wish they would get on with it. And I say that as a Remain voting lefty.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/07/2016 15:22

I don't think the conservative party activists in the country can be trusted to make a sensible, balanced choice, especially at the moment.

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 15:30

'So despite the 'evidence' and 'research' opportunity she still campaigns for the pile of poo we have.'

Well I'm not sure about that. That seems a bit cynical. Have you listened to her speech today?

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 15:41

'What has she actually said there? NOTHING. Not one thing. Lots of empty promises to everyone. Its the height of popularist bollocks. '

It didn't sound like nothing - but it was only a short minute speech. Did you vote to remain?

Inkanta · 04/07/2016 15:44

It was around a 10 minute speech. I found myself rooting for her really - she doesn't have May's experience but I find her pretty genuine and easy to listen to.

MontyIgueldo · 04/07/2016 15:46

It should be her or Gove.
