Anyone agree?

I wonder whether the reality is that she never for one moment thought she would get as far as she did, thinking that she would be out in the early rounds with the final two being Johnson and May? Her thinking may have been that she might as well throw her hat into the ring to capitalise on the higher profile she had during the referendum campaign and to put herself into a better position for a heavy-duty cabinet role. If so, I suspect she has actually damaged her chances because she will be seen as unable to take pressure and cope with the media.

WidowWadman · 12/07/2016 10:15

You mean the type of discrimination she was in favour of?

Basicbrown · 12/07/2016 10:36

Well not really because maternity pay is a double edged sword and causes discrimination.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/07/2016 10:42

Basicbrown, just to be clear, are you saying you're against maternity rights?

Basicbrown · 12/07/2016 10:45

That isn't what I said at at all. Everything has advantages and disadvantages, maternity rights have more advantages in my opinion.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 12/07/2016 11:20

Ah good - because Andrea Leadsom asked parliament to remove not just maternity rights, but all employment rights, from employees working for small companies.

Basicbrown · 12/07/2016 12:10

Yes I'm aware of that. I'm guessing that rightly or wrongly employment rights were seen as a barrier to people being employed at all though. It doesn't make any difference really because small businesses just call them 'freelancers' who then have no rights anyway.

I just keep seeing the Thread title in "Threads I'm On" and it makes me laugh every time.

This thread has lasted (at least) twice as long as AL's leadership bid :)

(which of course didn't end because AL was a mother and politics isn't child friendly, but because she was entirely unsuited to be PM for a long long list of reasons)

So true, Panda Smile

Andrea Leadsom is gone only to reappear in my nightmares now Grin I'm guessing Theresa is not going to give her a top job now.
