Anyone agree?

OP posts:
chicaguapa · 04/07/2016 07:22

Leadsom is disliked because of her high-profile involvement in the campaign - even though her role was positive rather than negative and involved no nastiness to her colleagues.

Really? I saw her on the BBC debate and Dimbleby picked her up on lying and she did it again. Confused

howabout · 04/07/2016 07:27

UndertheGreenwood that link made me LOL. If the Treasury had paid a bit more attention to detail, by which I mean anything, and sorted out the poor drafting they might have managed to produce a Budget which didn't unravel within a week. Grin

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 07:34

Sure, howabout. it's the Treasury's fault Andrea Leadsom's performance pissed off Treasury officials so much she was moved on to Energy.... Confused

Good ministers don't piss off their civil servants.

She is not experienced enough. She apparently was not quick to refuse or to accept when asked about disclosing her tax returns (she has agreed to disclose them - a bad move in my view).

May is the best choice.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 08:16

morningrunner - R4 Today is talking about Chilcott right now, dh and I were saying in a decade's time, this will be all about Brexit.

It's so depressing that the country is probably going to be trashed in the meantime. And it's all totally out of our control - we just have to watch it happen.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 08:18

She's taking a lot of flak...
Generally means you are close to the target.

Or you really are that bad.

lionheart · 04/07/2016 08:19

She sounds like an absolute charmer. Where do I put my cross?

Oh, wait ...

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/07/2016 08:19

Er does it, Spinflight?

Not in my world.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/07/2016 08:25

Morning runner I absolutely agree that there will be a public inquiry in years to come.

In the meantime I would like some immediate interrogation at a parliamentary level. There are plenty of grounds already - eg the evidence collated by michael duggan.

The SASC did a hugely valuable job with their blacklisting inquiry, which led directly to court rulings and tens of millions of compensation paid to blacklisted workers - so they can make a difference - and right now, exposing these people and their lies would be a worthwhile end in and of itself.

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 08:26

"f Brexit is a disaster there will be a reckoning that will make Chilcott look like a Cakewalk." I'm afraid Chilcott is a cake walk for those in power. It was designed that way.

There will be no reckoning for Brexit. Too many cross party lying bastards involved - it will be in no-one's interest.

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 08:28

I think she was not expecting the publish tax returns question. She only hesitated because she didn't want to set a precedent that would be applied to every candidate for leadership from now on.

I mean, I doubt Angela eagle has received much that she'd not want to have to explain publicly but even if you are on £10k a year, would you want to have to talk about each penny in a hostile interview, rather than talk about what you'd like to do if you get the job?

MG was able to answer more easily because he had the benefit of knowing the question was coming.

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 08:40

chicaguapa - what was the lie? I missed that.

I liked how she handled Andrew Marr yesterday. She clearly is able to think on her feet as he was trying to knock her off balance. She made me think of how she mst have been as a CIO dealing with a star fund manager who was trying to prove that he was cleverer. She didn't allienate him, but she didn't let him get aay with asking loaded questions. I think this ability will serve her well in dealing with the egos in the cabinet.

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 08:44

Leadsom? This is the politician who is not ruling out giving Farage a role in immigration at some stage in the future?

though of course the ref. was never about immigration, was it?

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 09:07

Was she asked about giving Farage a role in immigration? I don't think so. She was asked about a role of any kind, and she refused to be drawn. I can't think what sort of role he could take apart from bad cop in EU negotiations but he does represent the views of about 10% of the population (albeit the 10% that the "democrats" who marched on Saturday would like to have the vote taken away from).

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 09:23

Headline on the front page of the Times today:
UKIP accused of plotting to install Leadsom as PM

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 09:40

Well let's face it. Farage wouldn't be wishing a role in environment or fisheries for example. You can't damage people with non-white skin so easily and directly from those portfolios.

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 09:58

You think Farage is a racist? I think he's anti-EU and he's an abrasive character, but when did he says something racist? Have you a URL?

Spinflight · 04/07/2016 10:01

Redwood has backed Leadsom.

Quite an influential chap amongst the back benches.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 10:02

Grin Yes I think Farage is a racist. Actually, I think he is a fascist - I think he is not so far removed from the public schoolboy whose teacher reporting him singing fascist songs on a school trip. He's just a bit more careful what he says now.

LineyReborn · 04/07/2016 10:31

I think he might be trying to join the Tories. He's resigning as UKIP leader.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 10:41

Redwood has backed Leadsom.
Quite an influential chap amongst the back benches.

He's also nicknamed The Vulcan.
And known for being a Tory Wingnut

Vri123 · 04/07/2016 10:42

so the last time you had evidence was that he was a racist was when he sang racist songs when he was a child??

Nigel Farage's resignation is an interesting development but I am lost as to what the significance of it is, except that he told a radio show on Friday that his nemesis Douglas Carswell was likely to be thrown out of the party today. Maybe Farage gave an "its him or me" type of ultimatum and was called on it??

MrsMarigold · 04/07/2016 10:50

No not Andrea and her dodgy tax affairs.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/07/2016 10:50

Er, no Vri, that's not quite what I said. He said something rather unpleasant about Eastern Europeans and crime recently, er, that poster, just to name a couple.
