To suggest Londoners stay in London

You voted differently to where I live - by a huge margin. In your newspapers that you write (in London) you have said over the years how much you contribute to our local economy through your second homes and buy to let investments. But you refuse to live here permanently. I don't have to ask you why - you already know.

The last fishing boat in my town only left 3 weeks ago - hopefully they can come back and when they do, we will be enjoying the 'catch of the day', not you, so you can go back to London and wax lyrical or make some money describing it.

Odd cross posted

You see - u think even if you live In a less affluent area of London - you can easily pop on a bus and within a short period of time get somewhere better . Teenagers have their bus passes and can go and spend a day in Bluewater , Stratford WEstfield . I live on a street of council houses but can drive to the next richer suburb if I so wish

People in a deprived rural areas don't have that - u less they want to wait an hour for a bus.

I went to school with kids fro
Very deprived estates - but we knew we could hope on w tube and go to central London and shoplift

Anyway - let's agree to disagree as after this weekend I don't want to argue

Mazzystarlett · 26/06/2016 22:02

My brain hurts.Confused

I read about the last fishing boat. The proposed ban on drift fishing in the area had nothing to do with the EU, it was the IFCA (Inshore Fishing Conservation Association). OP You live in a beautiful part of Devon, so it would be natural that most of the income would be from tourism in some way, shape or form?

I can only assume that someone put the jam on your scone the wrong way 'round today or something, because these posts have been getting very strange.

P.S. As we seem to be having a poll on here, I always have Rock and Chips "Locally sourced" from Sarfend. Can't ever get it in Devon.

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 22:11

I'm not trying to argue with you (genuinely, I may be slightly tipsy but I'm not feeling angry at anybody or wanting to cause arguments) but I'm from a town that was extremely deprived and my family still live there. I do get what deprivation looks like. I'm the only person in my family to go to uni and they mocked me for that. I get why. I waited for the hourly bus service to take me to college and was mocked for that. There was good reason, in my mind, for choosing London as a place to live and study and I don't regret it.

Was London paved with gold? Far from it! It had positives and negatives compared to where I grew up. Overall, I prefer it. But I do understand those from small towns because I was one. I get the issues but blaming Londoners? That isn't the way, we are not all the same, the person in temp accommodation is not the rich banker - London is huge, the people living here are varied, please don't tar us all with the same bush.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2016 22:12

I think everyone is a bit at odds today to be Honest !!!

BeagBoo · 26/06/2016 22:13

London has the highest tate of child poverty in the UK and some of its most deprived areas. Get fucked.

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 22:13

*brush not bush ffs!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2016 22:15

You are right - and I hope Op reads the thread and gets a better sense of where Londoners are at - but people making flippant comments about Michelin restaurants won't help the cause !

I have been on the post referendum wine all weekend - It's not helping !!!!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2016 22:16

Thanks for helping the case Beagboo... NOT !

BeagBoo · 26/06/2016 22:16

Sorry, I'm being ride but I'm sick of this. I'm sick too of the leave vote being seen purely in terms of a class revolt when some of the poorest areas in the UK voted remain, including Belfast and areas in London (the whole narrative ignores that there is a huge non white working class). The biggest leave vote came from industry towns destroyed in the 80s. It's a different kind of deprivation and it's not just class.

BeagBoo · 26/06/2016 22:18

Sorry, I didn't mean to be so rude :( I live in London, I'm not from here and financially on the breadline and just fed up.

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 22:20

Oh risotto here too ocelot

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 22:22

London fish converse in Cockney rhyming slang of course Hmm

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2016 22:23

We are all fed up Beagboo. Thanks for coming back ! Just read that a load of senior labour players have resigned .

And who would want to be a politician right now ? It's a Fucking toxic chalice and also - I can't help feeling they must be scared after what happened to Jo Cox . I would be

So yeah - fuck

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 22:36

Beag yes, I've touched on it lightly but i don't have enough words - there are towns (like my home town) that say immigration is their issue - this town is 98% white British. They (by they I mean the vocal ones in the news, social media, people I speak to from school) and they say say there are no jobs because of immigration - but there is such a tiny amount of immigration in that town. The town was killed when the industry was killed. Immigration is not to blame.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 26/06/2016 22:50

I'm veggie, can I have cake instead of fish?

(But not fishcake)

originalmavis · 26/06/2016 22:55

Now I like cake.

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 22:56

Stop I get your point. I have lived In Greater London my whole life and I love the fact I can easily travel anywhere. My family in other areas of the country don't have that luxury and I know I would struggle with that. I love London and I am proud to live here. However it has a lot of faults like anywhere

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 22:59

Oh ok made the mistake of posting before reading the last post from OP

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 23:08

Have I killed this thread or has everyone passed out from too much wine? Wink

Yoyoyopo · 26/06/2016 23:09

Omg! I'm an OP local Shock
Though tbh one of the issues here is obv that (some of) the locals are a bit thick and I'm born n bred (but one wot lived in London and voted remain cause I remember what it was like here before we joined n we were poor n it wasn't as pretty)

naice fish tho....

Yoyoyopo · 26/06/2016 23:12

*waves at rusty paperclip n blows out candle to get up before dawn n milk fish

(blames Wine)

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 23:19
