To suggest Londoners stay in London

You voted differently to where I live - by a huge margin. In your newspapers that you write (in London) you have said over the years how much you contribute to our local economy through your second homes and buy to let investments. But you refuse to live here permanently. I don't have to ask you why - you already know.

The last fishing boat in my town only left 3 weeks ago - hopefully they can come back and when they do, we will be enjoying the 'catch of the day', not you, so you can go back to London and wax lyrical or make some money describing it.

Fish and chip shops local to me have always shut on Sundays. Have a friend who used to run a fresh fish stall who said was to do with freshness of fish and the lack of fish market open on a Sunday morning. Expect that's changed, but tradition lingers.

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 20:52

Float I don't even know where Torridge is. I'm originally froma Northern town that voted out, I've lived in London for ten years, I'm far from rich (not only do I not own a second home, my home is a private rent that I share with others). You don't need to hate others for your/your area's problems - whether that's Londoners or whoever else.

And that's enough seriousness from me tonight - somebody pass the vodka!

Fluffy40 · 26/06/2016 20:52

Leave sarf end out of it !

ocelot41 · 26/06/2016 20:54

Mwahaha - foiled the system Rusty because I am moving back to Scotland in Sept. Although they are all forriner-lovers too (thank Christ). Maybe I could have my second home in London?

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 26/06/2016 20:54

I think the key to all this is that 48% of the UK population are roaring drunk following the referendum result , and most of them are posting on MN :o

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 20:55

Seriously though, I love London and I feel fortunate that I was born here and can grab every opportunity that I have. However if I wasn't from London I don't know if I would move here. I love London for its diversity, culture and history, but I also love other parts of the country. I have close links to Dorset and Yorkshire, and if could I would go there tomorrow. I wouldn't live in either places because London is right for me at the moment

ocelot41 · 26/06/2016 20:55

I like fish - maybe I can pass for a non Londoner in time? If I, like, wear a hat and a beard maybe?

MyCatWasRightAboutYou · 26/06/2016 20:55

I've never been to that London. Blush Don't really want to go now if I have to have fish.
Would quite like a second home, though.

ocelot41 · 26/06/2016 20:56

Maybe your cat would like the fish MyFish?

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 20:57

stop London needs to check itself? Really? Do you get how many people live here and how diverse it is? We have everything from the ridiculously rich and privileged to the most poverty stricken and all in between. Londoners are not one homogenous mass.

Now, where is my second or first home?

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 20:57

Ahh ocelot, don't leave us!

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 20:58

My cats love fish. They want to know where all this fish is and when we can get it

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/06/2016 20:59

How dare you schwab? Shock I'll have you know a far higher percentage of us are pissed right now Wink

ocelot41 · 26/06/2016 20:59

Awww Rusty. Am touched. I promise to continue to stand on the right of escalators always. We'll always have Walthamstow.

leghoul · 26/06/2016 21:02

I own no homes but I ate some chips today

RustyPaperclip · 26/06/2016 21:03

Walthamstow forever!! (I went to a lovely tapas restaurant there once upon a time)

aseaand3stars · 26/06/2016 21:04

Okay, I'm happy to stay, I was born here. But what about my friend from Suffolk, can she visit her parents?

London is made up of people from all over the country, Europe, the whole planet. Do they have to stay or can they visit home, or maybe even leave?

My husband isn't from round here, he's waiting to find out what he should do. Is he a Londoner and has to stay or is he an immigrant who must leave immediately?

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 26/06/2016 21:05

My late husband was from London. When he moved to the Midlands everyone thought he was posh and rich because of his accent. He tried to tell them otherwise, that there are loads of ordinary people there who are struggling to make a living, aren't loud-mouthed wide boys, don't have 2nd homes, just like anywhere else. Colleagues/friends had trouble believing him until 'Eastenders' appeared on the telly.

TheRealAdaLovelace · 26/06/2016 21:09

there is this perception from the rest of the country that Londoners are rich and arrogant. In fact I was once sexually assualted in Covent Garden by a Northern football fan who accompanied his grabbing with the words ' you Tory voting bastard'

FloatIsRechargedNow · 26/06/2016 21:09

Your cats won't get the fish because we've eaten it. After we've got the cream. You Londiniums can have what we leave behind but best stay with your hydroponics, bankers and....rhymes with bankers, we're too thick to know, bet some Londinni will know, coz they know all, so they keep saying. zzzzzzzzz. Can't speak - have eaten too much fish and the cat gave me the cream.

OP posts:
ToastDemon · 26/06/2016 21:12

OP I don't think it's fish you've had too much of!

PigletJohn · 26/06/2016 21:12

Cornwall get the most EU grants, and has voted Leave.

I understand they will be having a Golden Goose-killing festival next week.

The FT says "you can't buy love"

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2016 21:13

Odd - I just feel that some Londoners don't get quite how gilded it u here to the rest of the county that's all - I am not rich - live in an ex council property . But this referendum has made me realise quite how split we are - and I feel a lot more humble . If God forbid my child was ill I would have easy access to care - that's just one example . Please don't pick me apart ! Many local authority estates have been refurbished as an other example

I am remain 100000% but this issue has made me realise quite how privileged city dwellers are as we have and see such tangible benefits

That's all - I need a chill pill too !!!

ocelot41 · 26/06/2016 21:13

I had risotto for tea. It may be because I have unwittingly morphed into a posh Londoner or it may be because I had some mushrooms to finish up. Hard to say. Fish certainly not involved.

IJustLostTheGame · 26/06/2016 21:14

The fishing boats won't come back.
There aren't enough fish
