Brexit

Remainers have become undemocratic, desperate & embarrassing

With a petition being launched by remainers for a 2nd EU referendum & getting 1.5 million signatures already is this not a sign remainers have a total lack of respect for UK democracy and are getting desperate. Leave won on a high turnout, should remainers just accept the democratic will of British voters & work for the best Brexit possible?

I don't know, I didn't hear any remainers making the "undemocratic EU" point over and over again (whether you agree with it or not is another thing).

But this is democracy, things can be challenged.

IthinkIamsinking · 25/06/2016 17:21

Do you mean EDL and Britain First supporters of naice middle class Daily Mail readers Your Hmm

Alanna1 · 25/06/2016 17:22

Of course its not undemocratic. Undemocratic would be the army rolling the tanks in!

Yes of course we can have another vote - and then another one if we wanted.

Democracy enables people to change their minds.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2016 17:34

Remainers start a petition, leavers start asking foreigners on the street why they haven't fucked off home yet.

I know which side I'd be more embarrassed to be associated with.

Lilmisskittykat · 25/06/2016 17:38

If the vote had been to remain we would remain...there would have been so much fuss and vitriol

I really don't think we should do a sturgeon and keep trying to take it out to vote til you get the result they agree with nor a South Korea and just Put one box to cross, else explain your vote of other to an official (probably so you can get as sainted later)

I am proud to be part of a democracy ... Agree or not our system is first past the post... So we are out.

Lilmisskittykat · 25/06/2016 17:42

Not sainted ... Assassinated... V different

gunting · 25/06/2016 17:47

I think if the vote was to remain then we would have seen riots in the streets. I campaigned on Facebook for remain and I got threatened and leave voters said horrible things about my 7 month old son.

Someone who I was campaigning with has mixed race grandchildren and a brexiter look a screenshot of a picture of them and said they should go 'back home'

Another person was speaking about how her late husband came here using the free movement rules and worked and that's how they had met. A brexiter said 'so you had to marry a foreigner because no English man would want you'

Fucking scumbags. Not all but a few and the few who were shouting the loudest.

Glitterkitten24 · 25/06/2016 17:48

I voted remain and am gutted at the result but the idea of a petition is astounding- you can't just ask the question again because you didn't like the answer.

There is not a hope in hell of a second referendum. If we don't like that answer, will we just call a third, or a fourth?

As much as I wish something could be done to prevent us leaving the EU, its done and dusted.

If as many people did a bit of research beforehand / turned out on polling day as are now trying to erase the whole thing by sharing a petition, we'd be in less of a sorry state!!

fruitlovingmonkey · 25/06/2016 17:54

The hypocrisy from a lot of Brexiters is astounding.
Votes leave because doesn't like being ordered around by the EU...
Orders remain campaigners to stop whining about the result.
You really should find out what democracy means before posting yet another of these threads.
...and so many experts on NORTH Korea all of a sudden.

Grassgreendashhabi · 25/06/2016 18:07

Here's a bit of news FTSE 100 is up higher now than before vote.

Come on doom and groomers tell us it's a blip

IthinkIamsinking · 25/06/2016 18:09

Is that the same elections 'expert' who predicted a Labour win in the last election Your?

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 18:17

I'm going to start a petition - paper, scissors, stones, best of 3, Cameron vs Farage - who's with me?

saffynool · 25/06/2016 18:21

Here's a bit of news FTSE 100 is up higher now than before vote.

It's Saturday ffs.

And when it closed yesterday afternoon it was definitely not higher than before the vote.

FTSE 100

Is this really the level of argument we're in for for the next two fucking years?

Pangurban1 · 25/06/2016 18:22

The FTSE 100 is the one for the bigger multinationals. Not as good an indicator of things as the FTSE 250.

The FTSE 250 are the next lot down. They are having a bad time.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTSE_250_Index

"Meanwhile the FTSE 250, which contains a smaller proportion of international companies and is generally seen as a better bellwether of the UK economy, suffered its biggest fall on record, dropping 11.4 per cent."

Grassgreendashhabi · 25/06/2016 18:28

As soon as it went down.... Every remainers was going on about how the FTSE is down.... Now it's up you moan that it's not very relevant.

I think I have come to the conclusion that you will moan regardless .

SpoonintheBin · 25/06/2016 18:37

Sorry to say that but a lot of people who voted Brexit are now regretting their vote. Especially when they realised that the NHS promise was a made up lie, and that the vote to exit the EU will have very little impact on immigration.

I am quite happy with the results of this referendum and will not sign the petition. I have a secure job (self employed, with very little prospect of business slowing down) and I have investments abroad. I am just having a bit of popcorn and enjoying the boasting from the Brexit side, all the 'independence day' business and the 'I want My England back', completely oblivious to all the unrest this has created. I will make sure that I will clap at the end. But obviously I don't want to paint a dark picture as I will be accused of scaremongering.

gunting · 25/06/2016 18:40

I've seen that Tata steel bidders have got cold feet over their takeover bid now due to brexit.

Michael Gove urged Port Talbot to vote leave to save the steel industry and they did so on Thursday.

LondonKiwiMummy · 25/06/2016 18:45

Do you know what - I was all set to ignore the petition as a passionate remainder. Sour grapes right?

But now I am seeing a lot of Brexiters getting worried about what is going to happen. We ALL need to pause and think about what's been done.

So SIGN if you have doubts. Remember, basically Hannan has told you today we will still be subject to the freedom of labour rules if we leave the EU as we'll sign up to the single market. It seems this has come as a bit of a surprise to some Brexiters.

saffynool · 25/06/2016 18:48

And we've come to the conclusion you don't know what the hell you're talking about. No one is moaning, simply pointing out the facts.

Yes, things will probably pretty much level out in the (very) long run because that's the nature of markets. But in the meantime, the best we can hope for is a very, very rough road. Jobs will be lost. Even the chief Brexiteers acknowledged the inevitability of a recession - but this time a recession chosen by 'the people'. Madness, utter fucking madness.

And meanwhile leavers crow about the amazing trade deals we're now going to be free to do with, uhh, the US? Russia? China? And apparently we'll manage these amazing deals (from our tiny, non-manufacturing, poorer-than-for-decades country) all on our own terms. We'll somehow avoid TTIP (because leavers don't realise that stands for transatlantic rather than, I dunno, triffic!) because the US will let us off anything like that cos they love us. Putin will be our new best mate and China will just be wetting themselves at the thought of all our marvellous exports of...what, exactly?

If you lot had lost by only 1million votes you'd be whining a different tune.

SpoonintheBin · 25/06/2016 18:48

You can't write that, Londonkiwi, you will be told that you are accusing Brexiters of ignorance.

SpoonintheBin · 25/06/2016 18:49

Saffinool, now now. Calm down or you will be accused of scaremongering.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 25/06/2016 18:50

Over 2 million signatures now. Yay!
