PETITION FOR A SECOND REFERENDUM - 1 million + signatures already

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:10

A parliamentary petition has been created calling for a second referendum. As I type, it already has 1,061,466 signatures and the number is growing rapidly so it will have to be taken seriously.

I would urge everyone who is concerned about the consequences of yesterday's result to sign it. It only takes a minute. Get your friends and family to sign too.

Link here:

There's also a map showing the location of the signatories. There are some key Remain territories which don't seem to have picked this up - particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please spread the word. Map here:

Brexit voters regret their decision:

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/i-really-regret-my-vote-now-the-brexit-voters-who-wish-theyd-voted-to-remain-a3280361.html

"One said: “I personally voted leave believing these lies and I regret it more than anything, I feel genuinely robbed of my vote.”"

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 26/06/2016 15:27

What does how well off we all used to be have to do with this? The poor will suffer badly in a recession. I don't blame them if they decide they can't afford it. I know I can't.

Livingtothefull - I share your heartbreak Flowers

infernalhullabaloo · 26/06/2016 15:29

A Mail on Sunday survey found 7% of leave voters regretting their decision. With an increase in disgusting racist attacks this figure of embarrassed, ashamed Leave voters will dramatically increase.

time4chocolate · 26/06/2016 15:29

On the contrary, 17m people have done the brave and honest thing by using democracy to remove us from an undemocratic bunch of bureaucrats who dictate to 27 countries. Their shock that we should do this and not cow tow to them has given them a wake up call and wiped the smugness off their faces, they are not superior to us and we have shown them so. Quite rightly they are angry and they will try anything they can to punish us as that is the sort of people they are but, if we had remained the scenario would have been the same, "you voted to remain so you can suck up whatever it is we decide you must do" and don't be naive enough to think there arent one or two bits of legislation that they are deliberately delaying bringing in for fear it would sway the vote to leave - how ironic. The buck stops with the power hungry EU, they are the ones who have got us into this mess, we tried to negotiate they told us where to go. Who wants their children to be part of that.

JoffreyBaratheon · 26/06/2016 15:31

Well, iin Farage's own words - a 48/52% result would have made him go sobbing for a second referendum.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nigel-farage-wants-second-referendum-7985017

So let's have one, seeing as he now is our chief policy maker.

infernal - Huge huge huge apologies it was autocorrect - is that all you have can comment on from my post, why am I not surprised.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2016 15:38

The petition is being investigated for fraud[

Hardly surprising, if some of the comments by frustrated, anti-democratic remainers are anything to go by

I wouldn't mind, but the petition doesn't even make sense. It might have been valid to demand 75% turnout/60% agreement "or else another vote" before the referendum, but the way it's worded shows it up for the foot-stamping petulance it really is

infernalhullabaloo · 26/06/2016 15:41

"infernal - Huge huge huge apologies it was autocorrect - is that all you have can comment on from my post, why am I not surprised."

This is semi-literate, as is often the case with Leave supporters' posts. Frightened, confused, poorly-educated and often racist. These are the disenfranchised people of limited opportunities who find fascism appealing. Never under-estimate the uneducated's desperate need for a scapegoat.

akkakk · 26/06/2016 15:43

I think that lots of people are laughing at the absurdity of some of these statements... not laughing at those who voted to remain, but laughing at some of the weird and wonderful comments and vague dreams being bandied around by those who simply are frustrated that their views didn't win - I think that they would normally be called bad losers...

let us go back to the core of this site as a parenting forum... if there was a vote in a school and your child voted for the losing side and let's say their 'side' only lost by one vote (or 100, it matters not!) - how would you react to their disappointment?

now darling, it might not be what you want, but a vote is a fair method of choosing

I know it is not what you wanted, but more people wanted the other option

sorry, I know it hurts and is frustrating, but you need to realise that you won't always get your way in life, sometimes you will need to live with the decisions made by the others even when you don't like those decisions

I know it is difficult and you think you are right, but the others also believe that they are right and there were more of them, so that is what now happens

this is democracy - sometimes in a vote other people get to choose what happens

... or...

would you go running to the headmaster:

my darling johnny (insert name of choice here) didn't get his way, I demand you have another vote, and keep on voting until everyone is in agreement - and by that I mean in agreement with little johnny

all those who voted against my little johnny are thick and ignorant and didn't know what they were voting for, so you must have another vote

it is really important, little johnny didn't get his way, it can't count, you must block it

47 other children voted along with my little johnny, and only 52 voted for the decision - 3 people have said in a note to you headmaster that they want you to debate this in the staff meeting and tell all the children that they should vote again because 3 children don't agree with the results (even though 45 of the 48 children accepted the result!)

it is not fair headmaster, I have a list here of children from schools all around the world who disagree with the outcome of this vote on who should be the milk monitor - look, thousands of votes by the Pope to say that he doesn't agree with democracy - you must redo the vote

???!!!! Grin

come on

as I said above to one of those posting - at least there is humour to be found in this!

OrangesandLemonsNow · 26/06/2016 15:43

This is semi-literate, as is often the case with Leave supporters' posts. Frightened, confused, poorly-educated and often racist

Remain voters seem quite keen on throwing lazy stereotypes around don't they.

Pity some don't grow up.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2016 15:43

A Mail on Sunday survey found 7% of leave voters regretting their decision

How interesting that you chose not to mention the 4% of regretful remain voters they also claim to have found

And they say that it's mainly politicians who spin things to suit themselves ... Hmm

The remain voters seem as clueless about the EU as the UKIP leave voters are about immigration.

JoffreyBaratheon · 26/06/2016 15:48

Stepping back from this thread for a second, it's interesting how well Cameron (Farage/Johnson, insert culprit here) have managed to divide our nations.

Someone remind me why the tories are called 'The Conservative and unionist party'?

This divide between convinced Leavers and horrified Remainers, is not going to go away with a few platitudes and a bit of PR. Well done, tories.

I think people who voted Leave should be ashamed but also the idiots who voted for Cameron in the first place as they - and he - have caused all this unnecessary trauma, divided our country, and smashed our economy - all in a few hours. These divisions are not going to be easily healed.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 26/06/2016 15:50

infernal That post is vile.

I suggest you take a look in the mirror.

PattyPenguin · 26/06/2016 15:53

The petition was actually started by a supporter of the Leave campaign before polling day, in order to protest if the Remain campaign won.

If you go to the petition page, you will see his name:
Created by
William Oliver Healey

Here is his Facebook page, er, explaining:
www.facebook.com/Oliver.Healey.English.Democrats/posts/1741575492720794

Here is part of it:
"Re: EU Referendum Rules triggering a 2nd EU Referendum petition
This petition was created at a time (over a month ago) when it was looking unlikely that 'leave' were going to win, with the intention of making it harder for 'remain' to further shackle us to the EU. Due to the result, the petition has been hijacked by the remain campaign. Admittedly, my actions were premature however, my intentions were as stated above. THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE OF A LEAVE VICTORY AT THAT TIME!!!"

time4chocolate · 26/06/2016 15:54

Oranges, yes it is vile but sadly it is what I have come to expect on here over the last couple of days, she isn't the first and won't be the last person to say something like that. I think it shows how full of hatred people can be when something doesn't go their way.

Racist filth are emboldened and empowered. This tawdry vote has dredged up disgusting low-life bullies and thugs.

time4chocolate · 26/06/2016 15:56

And you not coming across as a bully and thug hullabaloo?!?!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2016 15:57

Oranges I was going to report the post you mentioned, but perhaps it's better for it to remain, so we can all see exactly what level some anti-democrats are prepared to descend to?

OurBlanche · 26/06/2016 15:58

Oranges Infernal is one of those posters, that name has only posted on this thread (or had when I looked a while ago). It is only here to say ridiculous things and to wind up and irritate others.

I have reported it, as MN asks us to Smile

Littlemisslovesspiders · 26/06/2016 15:59

I think people who voted Leave should be ashamed

I think some need to think about the bile and nonsense they are spouting.

OurBlanche · 26/06/2016 15:59

And misogynistic... remember I am a bint apparently! Smile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2016 16:01

Patty you're absolutely right about the origin/timescale of the petition, but that doesn't change the fact folk are signing something which no longer makes sense

A bit ironic, perhaps, that some then claim that leave voters fail to look into things properly ...
