I'm dumbfounded at what's happened to Joe Cox. It's so wrong on so many levels.

I am gobsmacked that someone could think her husband is exploiting her death for political gain by saying 'to fight hatred.' We absolutely should fight hatred. This referendum has really brought out the worst in people. You have no idea how that poor man is feeling. She was trying to make our world, a bit better, more compassionate there is nothing wrong with what he said.

Also a subscriber to the White Rhino Club. Lucy

www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/06/16/mp-killer-linked-to-far-right-group.html?via=twitter_page
"Thomas Mair, the suspect arrested after the killing of Britain’s Jo Cox, a left-wing member of parliament, had links to far-right extremist groups. According to a magazine published by the White Rhino Club, which supported apartheid in South Africa, he was one of their earliest subscribers. Witnesses allege that Mair shouted “Britain first!” as Cox was shot and then subsequently stabbed. Britain First, a right-wing political party founded by former members of the British National Party, condemned the killing and said that Mair had nothing to do with them. Early Friday, Mair was connected to a U.S. white-supremacist group, the National Alliance, according to documents from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Mair reportedly bought a manual from the National Alliance in 1999 with instructions on how to build a pistol. One of the witnesses claimed that the weapon used to kill Cox looked “homemade.”

See here which provides a fairly clear overview of the documents:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3645727/Timid-gardener-dogged-years-mental-turmoil-Jo-Cox-murder-suspect-volunteered-special-school-subscribed-South-African-pro-white-magazine.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailus

But I don't know why I bother since you are obviously here to counter any possible suggestion that this could be linked to the far right.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 17/06/2016 16:28

I didn't say she was in a boat with Geldof?

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:28

oh they old 'they deserved it' victim blaming.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:29

seek Lucy appears to be throwing around accusations that Jo Cox was abusing fishermen and apparently deserved being hosed down for being in a dingy with her kids.

thecatfromjapan · 17/06/2016 16:30

'I wouldn't be surprised if she joined in.'
That means: you just made up your fact about the making V signs in front of her children.

That's an untruth in my book.

The Mair links to extreme ideology are NOT made up, on the other hand. They are being downplayed in the right wing press but not, in fact, disputed. Downplayed does NOT mean it's not true. It can't be wished away.

I'm finding the strange game with facts and truth very odd.

This is a members page for people to post their personal views of current events. There is no "political capital" in a conversation amongst friends / acquantainces. Now, if you were a national campaign promoting a poster that said "If you don't vote out an Orlando style massacre will happen here" THAT IS TRYING TO GAIN POLITICAL CAPITAL.

Can we all please stop with the synthesised outrage?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 17/06/2016 16:31

we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us

Good article here from Laurie Penny saying how when a man guns down 49 people in a nightclub, his religion and ideologies are focused on but when a British mp is murdered on our streets, we are reluctant to look at terrorism or politics and instead focus on his state of mental health.

thecatfromjapan · 17/06/2016 16:33

I think Lucy subscribes to the 'if you repeat an actual, proper untruth often enough, it will either destabilise the truth or come to be the truth,' school of political debate.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:33

So absolutely nothing conclusive then. It's all speculation. For example, the post from a Thomas Mair could have been from another Thomas Mair, or indeed placed there deliberately. You're very naive.

Do you not think if he had all these views, someone would have known? Yet his entire community had no inkling.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:35

Laurie Penny talks nonsense at the best of times. WE don't know what this man's motivations are. We don't know he shouted Britain First. We don't know he had political views. We don't even know Jo Cox was a target. You're making assumption after assumption and then trying to claim double standards for apples and oranges situations. We know the Orlando shooter was muslim.

thecatfromjapan · 17/06/2016 16:36

No. She brought her children with her because of profound ethical belief.

That's not despicable.

Equating compassionate politics with being despicable is, however, a political belief (and mindset) quite at variance with many people.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 17/06/2016 16:36

You have just referred to a woman who was murdered yesterday as despicable. You're despicable, Lucy.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:36

Well you do have a point about the right wing press. The EU is right wing and the press is overwhelmingly pro-EU.

Which begs the question, why are you pro-EU while getting angry about the right wing?

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:37

So I can't call Hitler despicable because he's dead?

Right.

Check the address on the documents Lucy.

but I guess you won't bother cos they were placed somewhere in the internets by the lizard people.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:39

lucy the daily mail, sun etc are pro-EU ?? Hmm

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:41

I don't think you are for real lucy.

Cherry2605 · 17/06/2016 16:41

I find Lucy's comments disgusting and despicable.

An innocent woman has died in the most terrible way whilst doing her job. Her children have lost their mother. All you care about is trying to ensure no connection can be made to the murderers actions and the Leave campaign.

You flippantly lie and make vile assumptions in your desperation to prove her somehow guilty in her own fate.

Your mother must be very proud.

ClassicCoast · 17/06/2016 16:43

I have such a profound respect for the comments of Jo's husband. To display such dignity and humanity is extraordinary.

I just read Lucy's comments and can feel the weight of turgid self referential right wing chat rooms and feel all goodwill slipping away.
