Is anybody else gutted about the shooting of Jo Cox - For democracy, for her family and for the progress that women have made in society?

I'm dumbfounded at what's happened to Joe Cox. It's so wrong on so many levels.

OP posts:

Well the difference is the Orlando shooter was following Islamic scripture. Tommy Mair looks to have been confused and ill and not following any ideology.

bridgetoc · 17/06/2016 15:55

The remainers really cannot sink any lower can they?

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 15:58

The breaking point poster is valid. Your idealism may prevent you from seeing that, but it is valid. You cannot allow millions of men from cultures that look down on women and expect them to just integrate. I know someone who lives in Cologne and she knows one of the victims of the Cologne attacks. She's suffered panic attacks ever since and won't go out.

Idealism is no defence for pathological altruism. Government's priority is to keep the collective safe. Maybe you should start thinking more about the safety of your own community and country rather than people from foreign cultures who care nothing about you. Idealists spread problems around, like FGM to the UK, all because they like to virtue signal.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 15:59

Agreed. I just hope people can see through a lot of the deliberate hyperemotionalism and not be manipulated. I hope the police can furnish us with some cold hard facts before the vote, too.

unexpsoc · 17/06/2016 15:59

"Well the difference is the Orlando shooter was following a fucked up version that is really just a parody of Islamic scripture. "

Fixed that for you Lucy. Gosh can't believe we are straight back to this

LucyDickenson - Tommy Mair was a paid up neo nazi!!!!

OrangesandLemonsNow · 17/06/2016 16:03

She was a prominent remain MEP with an unapologetic stance on immigration etc.

Actually Jo was an MP.

If you are going to disgracefully use Jo's murder to make political gain (as the rest of your post that I haven't quoted did) at least have the decency to get Jo's title correct.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:03

Ashamed because I'm pointing out double standards and the situation? And responding to people who are casting doubt on the Britain first stuff copied straight from the UKIP spokesperson's tweets?

To be clear, I agree we don't know the whole facts.

I do think the debate at the moment is extremely unpleasant and vitriolic and I want people to be more respectful. I really think that unpleasant talk has consequences. I really really hope that this is not the case here.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:04

orange you are correct, she is an MP.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:05

There are no double standards. There's been an outpouring of grief at both shootings on both sides of the pond.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:07

"Tommy Mair was a paid up neo nazi"

Could it be this is what you want to be true because it would give you political ammunition due to being extremely pro-EU?

How about calming down and attempting some objectivity?

Ask yourself this. Do you think the entire political establishment has your best interests at heart?

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:07

I reckon other people here should be ashamed of taking the same line as Nick Griffin:

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:08

Islam's pretty clear on homosexuality and infidels. It's not bigoted to point out facts. I know it's fashionable and PC to jump to Islam's defence, but that won't be the case forever. People are waking up.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:09

Lucy - I posted a link about that earlier.
I think it's fairly well established he was a neo-nazi/white supremacist (not sure exactly which fits him best)

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:09

Lucy - objectively

"According to documents obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the U.S.-based organization that tracks extremist groups, Mair was a longtime supporter of the National Alliance, a once-prominent white supremacist group."

Not sure what the political establishment has to do with the price of fish.

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:11

Objectively - a double standard

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 17/06/2016 16:11

It's odd how little her tweet the other day about her children and husband being hosed with river water by the Brexit boat has been mentioned.

This is the kind of atmosphere some of the Brexiteers have whipped up. Whether this gunman was just a nutter who randomly executed an MP who happened to be very vocal about support for refugees a week before a vote which many people have tried to make entirely centred around immigration, or whether the referendum was in any way part of his consciousness or not.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:12

Do you seriously think the Southern Poverty Law Centre is objective?

They are a globalist institution set up to profit from litigation, and to rabble rouse in general. These are never impartial. They are pro-EU because they support open borders and internationalist ventures.

"I reckon other people here should be ashamed of taking the same line as Nick Griffin:
"

Why should they be ashamed? Is Nick Griffin not allowed to state observable reality? If he says 2 + 2 = 4, is he wrong just because you dislike him?

nearlyhellokitty · 17/06/2016 16:17

I think that the Southern Poverty Centre information is correct. I don't think they have released it as some kind of conspiracy.

Link to your accusation about her abusing fishermen or it didn't happen. As far as I understand it she was in a dingy with her children.

LucyDickinson224 · 17/06/2016 16:18

It's not a double standard if it's apples and oranges. Two different situations with two different motives.

A double standard would be, for example, calling female circumcision mutilation and banning it while still calling male mutilation circumcision and keeping it legal.

She was in a dingy with her kids, not with Geldof et al. She in fact got hosed with her kids. Delightful.

Think you're demonstrating confirmation bias fairly clearly in your comments.
