What was your school motto?

Following on from a thread about latin phrases, I thought about how schools describe their values...

My school motto was Fortiter Vivamus - we live bravely.

What was yours?

Vocatis obedivi.
Having been called, I obeyed

LadyMuck · 31/10/2008 19:27

"In Pectore Robur" - chests of oak. Fairly sure that the founders weren't considering the possibilty of girls being allowed when they came up with that one.

LadyMuck · 31/10/2008 19:28

The dcs have "Time tells all", which feels a bit bleak.

MrsGhoulofGhostbourne · 31/10/2008 20:23

'Be strong and very courageous'. And I have

FiendishFairyFay · 31/10/2008 20:26

Non Nobis Domine - still no idea what it means

squeakypop · 31/10/2008 20:35

They are probably the same radioactive physics samples that are now stored in a cupboard next to the textiles room. Completely useless!

Who was mother superior? WAs it Sr P?

DD is in Yr 7, btw.

Sister P is a governor and the main spiritual force in the school. She taught my daughter how to do the Sign of the Cross.

I wonder how many teachers are still there that you know. Let me know if you are interested and I will let you know. Was Mrs L your chemistry teacher?

I am fairly sure that the school is very much the same as when you were there. You must have been in some of the spooky all school photos where all the nuns are in full habits. Probably with the school ghost.

Mrs L is still there (I think it might be a very special birthday for her today so won't be around for much longer). There's no Mr C.

The other long-termers are Mrs D (textiles), Mrs M (English) and Mrs H (Physics).

They have the whole school photo every 2 years.

Did you know that this year is the 60th Anniversary?

My DD is getting on OK. She is a really quiet and needs bringing out, and it's an ideal environment for that. She looks good in her stripey blazer

Yes - just knew that there would be old Eds on MN!

Bluerussian · 16/11/2019 20:32

I couldn't remember (many years ago), so I looked it up and it's:
Nyle ye Drede which means 'fear nothing'. Not sure that is always sensible advice but being as I'd forgotten it it obviously didn't feature very high. I suppose it could have changed since the 1960s. Do school mottos change?

fartingrainbows · 16/11/2019 22:18

Sanctus clavis fores aperit (probably misspelt though)
The key that opens holy doors.
