Why do Jewish schools need protection?

Rishi Sunak has just promised 3 million pounds to protect Jewish schools in the U.K. I find it horrifying that there is a need to do so. What sort of vile creature would target Jewish children?

Do you realise the level of security most Jewish schools already have, that they need to have?

They have always been under threat, that has just been increased recently hence the extra funding.

Jewish buildings like schools and synagogues already have high levels of protection in the U.K. People trying to kill Jews because they are Jews isn’t a new thing. Jewish schools in the U.k have the children doing the same kind of active shooter drills as schoolchildren in the US.

Mainly Islamic extremists but other types of anti semites too. In France an 8 year old girl was murdered in an anti semitic attack on a jewish schools

They already get government funding. I have worked at a Jewish nursery in Kensington and they have security at the door during drop off and pick up and then they walk around outside the premises the whole time the nursery is in operation.

Cctv everywhere and it was the only nursery I've been to that have signs saying video and audio recording.

On their registration forms it says that if the government funding stop you will have to pay x amount on top of your fees for security, which means that it is currently government funded. This was last year btw.

My kids' primary was also in the site of a synagogue and security was always tight. My husband used to do synagogue security and there were regular suspicious activities and people around - for example a woman no one had seen before asking a lot of questions about security because 'her son was interested in a security job'. Sad to say any worsening of the current situation in Israel, and its only going to get worse, will prompt terrorist cells to consider revenge attacks on Jewish targets elsewhere in the world.

I am very glad right now my kids aren't at a Jewish schoo anymore. I'm not desperately worried about an attack, but it's far from impossible.

Hindu and Jewish schools both need a lot of protection. It’s why they will usually fund across the faith (rather than a specific sect) - to pay for security.

Jewish schools and synagogues all have security round here due to threats. When DS went to his friends’ bar mitzvahs we would have to send a photo of him ahead so that security knew he should be allowed in 😢

The same sort of person that would attack a country that is aligned to Judaism perhaps...

@YetMoreNewBeginnings , yes I do. I was attempting (badly it seems) to bring that to the attention of those who think all the faults lie with Israel/Jewish people.

I know @Flopsythebunny , I just wanted to bring the need for that to people’s attention.

The same othering, hatred and vilification exists against Jews in the Palestinian Territories, btw. It's what makes the whole situation so intractable. So much generational trauma, anger and bitterness on both sides.

The people who think the fault lies with Israel or Jewish people are at best wilfully ignorant. Jews have been persecuted for hundreds of years for being Jewish.

Jewish schools currently have security, some state funded some privately so. Wherever it not it's all needed is debatable but obviously nobody would want to take the risk. In the aftermath of the Dunblane tragedy massive changes were made to school security although likelihood of a repeat was minimal for similar risk/outcome analysis.

It seems reasonable as there is security provided for schools Prince George and children of MPs attend as they are seen a possible targets.

I had no idea Jewish schools needed security until I read this thread.

The human race is appalling. It feels like humanity is going backwards more everyday.

There’s been security in Jewish schools for many years. I’m 40 and was aware of it around 30 years ago in North London.

If mulsim schools needed security I think people on here would be saying why do muslim schools exist.

To be clear to you all. I know Jewish schools have had to have security for years. That the government thinks this needs stepping up is horrifying! I wanted people to understand the normality for Jewish people. I hoped it might touch some who appear to have so little sympathy for them. 🙏🏻
