Why do Jewish schools need protection?

Rishi Sunak has just promised 3 million pounds to protect Jewish schools in the U.K. I find it horrifying that there is a need to do so. What sort of vile creature would target Jewish children?

Oh, I took your thread at face value didn't realise that it was trolling to stir up arguments and hated

Who would want to attack Jewish children do you think @littleducks ?

In the 90s my route to school went past a Jewish cemetery. It had swastikas sprayed on the graves and headstones smashed more than once during the 7 years I was at senior school. Things have gotten much worse in the years since then.

sprigatito · 12/10/2023 17:52

I doubt anyone here has no sympathy for Jewish families who are afraid to send their children to school. It's appalling and should concern all of us.

This doesn't translate easily into sympathy for the Israeli government, the IDF or the illegal settlers, who have been generating pure human misery for decades. Radicalisation hasn't happened all by itself - on either side of the fence.

GlitchStitch · 12/10/2023 17:53

Have you seen the people in London dancing in the street celebrating the rape and murder of Jewish women and children? Surprised you need to ask why they need security.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 12/10/2023 17:53

DiaryLouise · 12/10/2023 17:41

Jewish schools and synagogues all have security round here due to threats. When DS went to his friends’ bar mitzvahs we would have to send a photo of him ahead so that security knew he should be allowed in 😢

Edited

@DiaryLouise , how awful that innocent children must suffer hate in this country. 😔

It’s awful they need such protection, but they always have. I’m more than happy to pay tax money towards it.

MrsMarzetti · 12/10/2023 17:54

" What sort of vile parson would target Jewish children ?" The Hamas terrorist kind.

@Flopsythebunny I've reported your vile vile comment.

What's vile about it?

Are you saying there's another reason?

littleducks · 12/10/2023 17:56

There are fewer Muslim schools but some do have security due to issues. Locally the Jewish schools and synagogues have a very visible security presence, in uniform at gates and in one case synagogue is on parallel road smaller but has guard on main road as well for presumably visibility. The mosque also has trained security guards but chooses to have a softer appearance with them operating as car park guides/stewards on gate rather than standing to attention.

I have no idea why the difference locally but assume it's very deliberately made by all

@Queucumber , I cannot imagine having to live with that hatred. I don’t think these things are reported nearly often enough in the media.

I read FlopsyBunny's comment as saying 'Palestinian (and other) terrorists. Not 'Palestinians and other terrorists'.

@GlitchStitch , I’ve seen it and the police’s pathetic response to it.

"Palestinian (and other) terrorists" is not the same as saying all Palestinians are terrorists. Hamas is a Palestinian terrorist group, they are Palestinian terrorists. Nothing vile about that statement

littleducks · 12/10/2023 17:59

I don't really care I think they deserve protection from anyone with malicious intent.

There are also classic white Nazis still about.
It was in the newspaper that in a church hall what they thought was a wedding was actually a annual nazi rally...

DomPom47 · 12/10/2023 18:00

Palestinian is not a terrorist group.
Statistically how many antisemitic Palestinians are there in the UK? Most antisemitic in the UK are not Palestinian.
Your comment is stupid at best and deliberately hateful at worse.

How are they getting into the UK to targets Jews when they can't even leave Palestine?

I don't think thats who they need protection from.

How many Palestinians have you ever met in the UK?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 12/10/2023 18:02

Unfortunately racial and religious discrimination/hatred is about the oldest and most vociferous thing in the world. I went to Jewish school abroad some 30 years ago and remember doing security drills / hiding under the desks on a weekly basis.

One of the very sad but apparently inevitable side effects of anything at all kicking off in the ME, regardless of the rights or wrongs, is an increase in antisemitism around the world. It makes me think that it is quite widespread, and that people are just waiting for an excuse. Bit like any other form of racism really.

@Flopsythebunny I've reported your vile vile comment.

Hamas are a terrorist organisation, prescribed as such by the UK government. Hamas are the elected government of Gaza and Palestinian. Therefore they are Palestinian terrorists. The statement was factually correct.

gotomomo · 12/10/2023 18:06

@BetterCallBarry

I know 2 Palestinian families in the U.K. one is Christian and managed to leave (around 20 years ago), the other are Muslim.

BlowDryRat · 12/10/2023 18:09

I work near a Jewish school in north London. It has at least 3 security guards in stab vests patrolling outside or in the playground during the school day.

A Jewish family living near us has two police officers escort them to the synagogue every Saturday. Their car, house and garden are regularly vandalised.

Anti-Semitism in the UK is alive and kicking. It's not paranoia about people criticising the Israeli government, IDF and settlers.

Yes Hamas are a terrorist organisation, no one sensible would dispute that.
Many would dispute that they were the fairly elected government in Gaza, UN themselves have stated issues with elections. Would not be fair to say Putin represents all Russians and all Russians are responsible for the illegal war in Ukraine as they voted for him.
