Why do Jewish schools need protection?

Rishi Sunak has just promised 3 million pounds to protect Jewish schools in the U.K. I find it horrifying that there is a need to do so. What sort of vile creature would target Jewish children?

I have a lot of sympathy for the Palestinian people and their plight and I don’t agree with the taking of their land but the Jewish people have been persecuted and shown hatred for many many decades.
there is a lot of people I know who are very much in support of the Palestine side of this fight and I am really struggling to stay out of arguments with them about it.
even if our so called safe country, Jewish people are less safe than other groups.
it is appalling that people’s behaviour is such that our govt needs to spend money protecting Jewish groups simply because they are Jewish.
I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like to live in the UK and send your child to nursery knowing that they need high level security to keep them safe whilst at nursery.
WTF is wrong with people that they want to harm innocent people, regardless of their religion or culture.
I really can’t comprehend it.
and I have been sat here the past few days thinking about those poor babies and children who have been beheaded by Hamas in Israel. Nothing, absolutely nothing will convince me that Israel is wrong to defend its people when such atrocities are taking place.
violence against Jewish people isn’t confined to Israel/ Palestine, there has been a massive increase in attacks all over the world in the past week.

I’m glad the extra money for security is being put in for UK schools and I’m really horrified and saddened that is necessary. Parents and children living under the threat of violence because of who they are is completely unacceptable.

Intolerance and its consequences and the threat of domestic terrorism are things that that we in the UK need to learn to talk about much more often. Because horrifically it seems that this war is not going to be easily ended. We need all UK communities to be able to live together in safety. As a society together we need to do the best we can to promote good relations between our communities.

@caringcarer indeed at least 3 Jewish schools closed tomorrow. Supporters of Hamas (any terrorist organisation) in this country should either be imprisoned or deported to their country of origin in my opinion.

@Lovepeaceunderstanding I agree with you. It was sickening to see on the TV news tonight showed film of Muslim women in London tearing down posters of missing Jewish DC. Just ripping them down so no one can see them. In France people out on streets supporting Hammas and celebrating atrocities got water cannon. In the UK our police do absolutely nothing. I hope tomorrow anyone out celebrating Hamas is charged with hate crime of inviting violence and charged.

There is a lot of open and not open anti-semitism in the U.K.

It does not surprise me that Jewish schools need such protection. Unfortunately they risk being vandalised or staff attacked.

@BetterCallBarry , I’m trying to understand their motivation then. The catalyst for their euphoria was an attack on Israel in which babies were brutally murdered and taken hostage as human shields. Innocent civilians were butchered in the most depraved fashion. I cannot imagine celebrating this depravity under any circumstances. If I thought someone thought I supported those actions I would be out on the streets screaming that those evil actions were not perpetrated in my name. I would not be on the streets waving a flag with connections to those terrorists, I would certainly not be gleeful. Please tell me what those despicable thugs were so happy about?

Those were pro-Palestinian ralleys and protests in France. They had nothing to do with anti-semetism. What is happening in Palestine is utterly wrong and any decent person needs to call it out.

The video re celebrations of Israeli deaths happened in London. The video re celebration of Palestinian deaths and Gazan bombings happened in Israel. There are horrific videos of dead / multilated children from both sides. I don’t think I will ever forget the photo of the little boy whose hair / face / ears were burned off by white phosphorus.

@Onestepforwardseveryday , I’ve been disturbed really by the level of support (no one with the honesty to come right out and say) for the actions of Hamas. I’ve looked at the news reports from Gaza and it’s shocking, I can’t imagine rebuilding that. The entire situation is horrendous.
I really didn’t know though how deep rooted antisemitism was in this country. The Jewish people have been vilified for millennia. Why?

In answer to the OPs original question, it would be the same psychopathic Islamic extremist terrorists that behead babies, they don’t just live in Gaza unfortunately.

Absolutely tragic that any child's education should be disrupted due to fear. I heard the headteacher of Messorah Girls school (one of the ones closing today) on the radio this morning and he was keen to point out that they are not fearful, but parents would prefer their dc not to attend school today. The Jewish School Trust advised that all schools should remain open.
Jewish people in Britain have been victim of antisemitic attacks long before these things were ever recorded. The 'Islamist' threat is being used as diversionary tactic. @Brrrrrrrrrrrr the "beheaded babies" claim of Biden has now been retracted by the Whitehouse. There was no evidence of this claim whatsoever. It hasn't stopped the Western media and tabloids from repeating it though.

I hope that there is a government or Barnet council move immediately to ban political protest outside schools. Picket lines of striking teachers fine.

This is absolutely 100% an education issue. Families are worried about school safety. Schools are being closed. Moving this thread would be extremely inappropriate and discriminatory against parents who are or fear they might be, affected by these issues.

Did you also ask for Covid related threads about school closures to be moved elsewhere? Thought not.

Agree, no need for me to read or comment on threads. However, having reads the posts, respectfully disagree. The vast majority of posts are talking about (legitimate) security concerns, not educational issues. So (imo), this 'education' section is not the right forum to air these concerns.

Remember, people can disagree, and still keep the conversation civil.

I’m not sure you’ll find much help with solving quadratic equations in the education section anyway. It’s usually discussions about schools, and yep this thread is a discussion about schools having to shut so it’s in exactly the right place.
