Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

OP posts:

@Mantapeace - I have no idea, sorry. But it sound like all went really well for your son at interview, so it is all looking good for you both.

If the stat is correct, and half of interview candidates are taken on, then around 140 were interviewed last year (just under a quarter of applicants). Seems very possible. I'd be interviewing them all if I was them...

Doesn't make me feel any better about not having had an interview....but there we go Sad...

goobledygok · 23/01/2020 20:07

@Mantapeace - I am also gobsmacked that Dr Cox was doing the interviews. Is that standard practice from previous years ? Anyone know ?
My son did know him as had seen him during the open days etc. I think he must have been a bit intimidated although just shrugged when i asked.

Mantapeace · 23/01/2020 20:15

Well my son ought to have known who he was as we sat through a talk at the open day - so nil points for observation 🤣

123EyesOnMe · 23/01/2020 20:37

Anecdotally from previous years, it's pretty normal for him to do interviews...and certainly normal in lots of other similar schools.

goobledygok · 24/01/2020 15:49

I suppose it can be a whole line of schools that you attend open days for at some point so not surprisingly they all merge together and it would be difficult to tell the Heads apart esp for a 10 yr old. Just feel that possibly 11+ is too young for this but then again this is probably part of how they make sure the boys are a good fit.

HampshireGirl123 · 24/01/2020 19:21

How are you all feeling about next week ladies? 😬😩🤞🙏

123EyesOnMe · 25/01/2020 12:44

@HampshireGirl123 ....feeling mainly like the second of your emojis! But attemping breezy and carefree on the outside for the sake of DS! I've almost resigned myself to a no. Sad

Jugglingact101 · 25/01/2020 13:51

When do the ‘no’ letters come out?

HampshireGirl123 · 25/01/2020 14:13

@123EyesOnMe I’ve decided we’re a no too but I’m trying to remain optimistic for my son 😩😢

HampshireGirl123 · 25/01/2020 14:14

Dr Cox said the no letters would be sent out before the end of January. As it’s the 31st next Friday I’m guessing they’re going to arrive some time next week, most likely Tuesday-Friday 😬😬😬😬 This wait is truly awful ...

Jugglingact101 · 25/01/2020 14:23

Do u think they are letters or emails?

HampshireGirl123 · 25/01/2020 15:07

@ Jugglingact101 Dr Cox said they’d be sent by post x

123EyesOnMe · 25/01/2020 16:10

@HampshireGirl123
@Hampshire Girl123 I think next weekend is the most likely point for the first no letters to arrive... Virtually holding hands...

HampshireGirl123 · 25/01/2020 17:20

@123EyesOnMe 😘 I’m crossing everything for us all on here xx

R272727 · 25/01/2020 19:23

Does anyone know how bullying is handled at RGS?

R272727 · 25/01/2020 19:24

So by next weekend no news is good news. Better than some other schools that you wait until 14th!

123EyesOnMe · 27/01/2020 11:14

@R272727 - I think to be sure you've missed the 'no' letters (without interview), you'd have to wait until the end of next week. Dr Cox said he'd let us know if it was a 'no' "a little earlier than the 14th".
Traditionally the 'no' letters seem to arrive between about the 29th Jan - 2 Feb... Personally, my bet is that most will come this Saturday to allow boys to process the news before being back in school on the Monday... We shall see.

Oh, and re. you're question on school policies (bullying or anything else for that matter), they are all on the school website...

TaupeAndTeal · 27/01/2020 14:53

Saturday would definitely be the most considerate day for no letters to arrive. I've seen some very upset children (and parents) in the playground when others have received positive news from schools and broadcast it loudly.

R272727 · 27/01/2020 16:06

Not long to wait everyoneSmile. In regards to bullying issues I was wondering if anyone at school currently had any experience on how it was handled. Thanks

Auroborea · 27/01/2020 17:13

We haven't come across any bullying yet, R272727. I think someone further up the school needs to answer that question.

sazzy5 · 27/01/2020 17:24

I have 2 boys in the school, never heard of any issues. I know the school go out of their way to make all of the students feel they can express themselves however they want. No issues in our nearly 5 yrs there. They are also good at listening to any concerns about your DC.

R272727 · 27/01/2020 17:59

Thanks everyone. Smile

HampshireGirl123 · 29/01/2020 12:13

Now that we’re getting a bit closer, do you think Admissions would tell us over the phone when the no letters are being sent out or not? 🤔🤔

123EyesOnMe · 29/01/2020 12:40

@HampshireGirl123 - Probably yes...are you brave enough to call?? My Money is on sending them Friday to arrive Saturday...

If you do call, ask if they send them all out together...all the 'no without interviews' that is... (I assume that they do!)

HampshireGirl123 · 29/01/2020 12:58

@123EyesOnMe I was going to ring but you’re making me have doubts now! I don’t want to annoy them. I wonder if others have phoned 🤔🤔
