Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

OP posts:
HampshireGirl123 · 20/01/2020 11:32

@Bin85 New comments only come through for me after refreshing the page so I am obsessively refreshing it to see if anyone has had scholarship or no letters 😉😂

toetheline20 · 20/01/2020 12:48

Nothing here. Not expecting anything TBH but would be lovely wouldn't it?!

HampshireGirl123 · 20/01/2020 13:10

@toetheline20 Wouldn’t it just! We could relax and stop drinking 😉😂

R272727 · 20/01/2020 14:19

@HampshireGirl123 woudon’t no news be good news?

HampshireGirl123 · 20/01/2020 14:22

@R272727 yes no news is indeed good news but it still means waiting until the 14th Feb and hoping and praying that nothing comes through the letterbox in late Jan/early Feb! That’s Valentines totally ruined, I’m going to be beyond preoccupied 😉😂

R272727 · 20/01/2020 14:31

@hampshiregirl123 I totally agree it is so stressful. Did you DS get called for 2nd interview? What other school are you waiting for?

Pyrfwondering · 20/01/2020 16:13

Scholarship test invitation e-mails are coming out. So happy that DS has a place... never mind the scholarship :-D

Bin85 · 20/01/2020 16:18

Well done to him

HampshireGirl123 · 20/01/2020 16:59

@ Pyrfwondering Well done to your son, you must be delighted! What time did you get the email at? None for us but then I wasn’t expecting one! @ R272727 No second interview for us so my ds is sitting in a yes or no pile somewhere 🙈

toetheline20 · 20/01/2020 17:44

@ Pyrfwondering That’s brilliant news, well done!

toetheline20 · 20/01/2020 17:46

Wondering if all the scholarship emails went out in one hit or whether they’re individually sent.....

123EyesOnMe · 20/01/2020 17:56

Congrats @pyrfwondering! Amazing news!
Was that by email from Mrs Sweet??

We're with you @HampshireGirl123 sitting in the yes or no pile....

Pyrfwondering · 20/01/2020 18:21

Our email from Mrs Sweet popped in a little after 3pm. We are A-K... not sure that makes a difference.

Thanks for the lovely comments. DS is v happy

toetheline20 · 20/01/2020 18:43

Really helpful thank you. We’re also A-K so I guess that means we’re into the realms of avoiding a “no” letter too Hmm
Not sure how much more of this I can take....

123EyesOnMe · 20/01/2020 20:26

I feel your pain @toetheline

HampshireGirl123 · 20/01/2020 21:16

@toetheline20 Same here, it’s too much isn’t it 😬😩 Be strong x

R272727 · 20/01/2020 21:27

@toetheline20 any idea when the no letters come out? No second interview here too Hmm

toetheline20 · 20/01/2020 22:10

Thank you for the messages above ❤️ From what I’ve read looking at other ppls posts if you didn’t have to go through the callback interview process it seems as if next week is the “no” week and if you clear that, making it through to the start of Feb with no communication at all, then you have a fighting chance of a yes mid Feb. Anyone whose DS had a callback interview has unfortunately got to wait until mid Feb (14th) for a yes or a no. I think that’s how it works but am sure someone else will clarify if I’m mistaken xx

HampshireGirl123 · 21/01/2020 11:07

Does anyone know many boys usually get invited back for the scholarship exam? And how many others get music, sport etc scholarships? Also how many approximately of those invited back for second interview are usually offered a place? I’m just trying to work out how many are in the standard yes pile as I’m starting to feel bad about this and think we’re probably amongst the nos 😢

toetheline20 · 21/01/2020 11:16

this page announces the scholarships so you could use as a rough guide

HampshireGirl123 · 21/01/2020 11:24

@ toetheline20 Thanks, that’s helpful. Looks like it’s about 20/21 then unless I’ve got it wrong. Doesn’t leave much room for the standard yes boys once you’ve taken the second interview boys into account 😬

toetheline20 · 21/01/2020 11:35

@HampshireGirl123 how many standard yes boys do you reckon?

123EyesOnMe · 21/01/2020 11:42

@HampshireGirl123 and @toetheline20 ....I hadn't appreciated how many scholarship places there were! Shock
Share the view that it shrinks the number of regular 'yes' places quite a bit....hmm...
Not feeling very positive....and that makes me feel so bad for my DS, who i genuinely think would thrive at the school...

HampshireGirl123 · 21/01/2020 11:43

@ toetheline20 I’m trying to work it out! If we assume they have 120 places to fill and 20 ish are scholarships with another 30-40 ish taken from the second interviews then that only leaves about 60 definite yes places out of 380 boys that applied and took the entrance exam (confirmed by Dr Cox on the day). I could be wrong with these numbers of course but if I’m right I can’t see my son getting in as the straightforward yes boys have a one in six chance of getting through. He’s a bright boy but not sure he’s the brightest out of a group of six bright boys 😬😬

GU24Mum · 21/01/2020 12:07

Some of the scholars in the link a PP posted were for 13+.
