Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

OP posts:

I am surprised they did that and massively impressed !!! Can't help but compare this to another school that we had wanted to apply to however they had a exam day clash. Multiple calls and emails for alternate dates but got no answer. I got to know via another mother on 2nd Jan that they later came out with alternate dates in Dec. I called early Jan to say if we could apply late but was curtly told that nothing could be done. Partly our fault cause we should have persevered but its nice to know of your experience @Tinytempa

Last day, ladies...the wait is almost over...
Hope everyone's doing ok!

Welcome back @HampshireGirl123 and good luck to you too for tomorrow.

Interested as to how ppl are doing the whole envelope thing. My DS has asked me not to open as he wants to do it after school.

toetheline20 · 13/02/2020 13:29

Hampton offers are already out in case anyone on here is also waiting for them!

ErmieMum · 13/02/2020 14:31

Ooohhh they are early aren't they? Thought they were part of the 14th Feb group?

villagegirlatheart · 13/02/2020 15:12

I'm leaving letter for DS to open after school - he's totally unaware that tomorrow is the day...

123EyesOnMe · 13/02/2020 15:31

I'm really surprised at Hamptons...they are in the Trinity 14th Feb group!

My son knows it's letter day tomorrow/Saturday as another boy told him...I was trying to keep it quiet.
If it's a big chunky envelope then I think I'll wait and let him open it after school...I think I read on a previous forum that big A4 envelopes are a good sign! Smile Don't know if they send out info on school/, uniform etc in that letter...in which case there would be quite a bit of paperwork.

HampshireGirl123 · 13/02/2020 15:44

I’m letting my son open it when he gets back from school too. He knows the offer letters are due tomorrow and is pretty excited now 😉

Oldtimer2020 · 13/02/2020 15:44

Good luck to all! Info about uniform, choice of language etc sent in the June time if I recall. It’s just T&Cs etc tomorrow.

Pyrfwondering · 13/02/2020 15:55

thanks @Oldtimer2020! that's really handy to know Smile

TaupeAndTeal · 13/02/2020 18:15

My son is very aware that tomorrow is The Day. He really doesn't want me to open the letter before him so it will wait until he gets home. 😬

Bin85 · 13/02/2020 19:51

Think I would steam open and reseal !!

Gargoura4 · 13/02/2020 20:06

Hi, I’ve just joined the discussion, no letter so far but we have applied for bursary, will the letter arriving tomorrow be either a yes with bursary or a yes without bursary ?? As I assume all no letters been already received early February??
Another mum who won’t be able to sleep tonight

Pyrfwondering · 13/02/2020 20:08

Is anyone waiting on St George's College? Has anyone heard of what's happening with their offers?

123EyesOnMe · 13/02/2020 21:13

@Bin85 - 'steam and reseal' Grin ...I genuinely considered this!

R272727 · 13/02/2020 21:37

Good luck everyone for tomorrow. I had couple of question especially for those with DS already at school. Did the school mention why the school dropped a lot in the tables? Also how are the sports at school. Thank you so much

TaupeAndTeal · 13/02/2020 21:59

'Steam and reseal' seems like a reasonable compromise 😂

Good luck everyone 🤞

HampshireGirl123 · 14/02/2020 08:33

Eek! Today’s the day! Best of luck to everyone, I really hope it’s good news for all of us xx

Oldtimer2020 · 14/02/2020 09:04

@R272727
Lots of sports! One games lesson and one PE lesson a week. One evening practice of that particular term’s sport and conditioning sessions if you are in the A or B team for the sport of the term (usually lunchtime or before school). Seems to be as long as the boys are enthusiastic and turn up for the extra evening practice they generally get picked for a team. Regular matches on a Saturday for teams down to the D squad. Usually field an E and F team once a term so everyone gets to play. Additional optional after school clubs for things like tennis/squash/sailing etc. In the summer term there is a choice between athletics and cricket. Really underestimated the amount of sport, but it’s been brilliant for DS and means there is another focus apart from the academics. Don’t worry though if your DS is not sporty, it’s absolutely fine and there’s no pressure. If your DS’s do go, be prepared for a lot of sports kit washing in quick turnarounds and consider getting a spare second hand kit!
No idea about league tables, DS happy so really not a consideration. Guess it varies from cohort to cohort.

AtiBati · 14/02/2020 10:15

@R272727 the drop in the league tables was due to a boy who didn't pass his A levels. The school knew obviously that he wasn't going to pass already when he was doing his GSCE's and had a talk with his parents. RGS does not ask boys to leave and the parents of this boy decided to stay and pay the fees knowing the boy wouldn't pass. I like RGS for not kicking him out like other schools would have.

On another note, I asked my son today if he knew what day it was today and he said it was Valentine's Day. ;o)

Gargoura4 · 14/02/2020 10:55

Any news anyone? I’m at work and won’t be able to check until this evening. Good luck everyone!

AtiBati · 14/02/2020 11:06

Yes.

Good look everyone...hope the wait ends in good news! Our post arrives early afternoon but DS is at a club till 4.30pm so it'll be 5ish before we know...😬. @Oldtimer2020 (or anyone else who knows) could I ask whether there are additional charges for the lunchtime & after school clubs? Thanks

TaupeAndTeal · 14/02/2020 11:10

Hallelujah! Congratulations AtiBati!
