Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

OP posts:
123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 11:22

Any post today for anyone...?? Confused

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 11:24

Nothing in the post here.

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 11:36

Excellent news, TaupeandTeal! Star Smile

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 11:37

🤞

GetoffmyUnicorn · 04/02/2020 11:40

If you haven’t had anything in the last couple of days then I think you are safe, I heard they all went out on Friday. You can double check with your school now as the head will definitely know!! (They won’t know the outcome of the callback interviews yet though - just the initial no’s)

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 11:40

Do you think we can permit ourselves a little cautious optimism now @123EyesOnMe ?

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 11:49

@sunfish 13+ candidate here too. So potential for 12+ recall. But it looks like we're not out on our ear just yet.

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 11:50

@TaupeandTeal.... I am MASSIVELY reluctant to say so...but possibly.
I think a number of people on here (myself included) know of at least one child who received a 'no' letter over the weekend. And word on the street does suggest that letters ALL straight 'no' letters went on Friday. I haven't spoken to the Admissions dept myself to confirm this as fact though hence my reluctance to say or think anything for sure...

@GetoffmyUnicorn Did you speak to the school? Do you know for sure that all the letters went on Friday? Sadly, I know that my son's school definitely won't say anything to even confirm/deny whether they know...

GetoffmyUnicorn · 04/02/2020 12:42

@123EyesOnMe - I heard from another Mum that they all went out on Friday! Your school should reassure you that you are safe now that all the letters are out. They are not telling you anything they shouldn’t!

DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist · 04/02/2020 12:56

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this...will all schools know now or just prep schools? i.e. will state maintained school heads also have been told or is it just those preps with, and maybe even those without, a working relationship with the RGS?

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 12:57

@GetOffMyUnicorn....my son's current school is just not in the kind of place I'll get any comment or reassurance. They are not interested in moves to independent schools - other pressures and priorities.
Good to hear that all letters were sent at the end of the week...

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 14:07

@ceeceeanne ....this is the thread for 2020 RGS 11+/13+ entry

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 14:09

@DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist ....I'm interested to know this also. My suspicion is that all school Heads are informed (state and indy) but that the Prep school just place a higher priority on the information as it will be relevant to the majority of their pupils versus the minority in a state primary/junior school.

villagegirlatheart · 04/02/2020 14:49

No post here....my DS is at a state school - I'm not going to ask but I don't think our head would say anything.

BooRadley7 · 04/02/2020 16:01

No post today...

I really think that from yesterday your chances of a yes goes up exponentially with each passing day with no post.

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 16:32

@villagegirlatheart - we're in the same position as you...

@BooRadley7 - I'm inclined to agree...but really hesitant to get hopes elevated in any way...

No post at all here...assuming even our post can't be running this late. Safe for another day. It's like the Hunger Games....

villagegirlatheart · 04/02/2020 17:09

@123EyesOnMe...did many sit from your school? As far as I know only DS and one other took the exam from ours and I don't know the other parents so feeling quite in the dark about everything! I think I'll just have to be patient a while longer!

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 17:18

Hahaha Yes! @123EyesOnMe when DS went into the exam I said to him "May the odds be ever in your favour" because he's just finished reading that series.

TaupeAndTeal · 04/02/2020 17:18

(No-one else sat the exam from our school btw)

BooRadley7 · 04/02/2020 17:33

Oh well just another 9 days, 6 hours and 28 minutes until we all know for sure! Time is so so relative 😂

DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist · 04/02/2020 17:34

Same as some PPs above.......nobody else sat from my DS's (state) school but I did ask the Deputy Head if she knew anything today and she told me that she hadn't heard and didn't really expect to. Maybe the Head knows and just hasn't mentioned to the Deputy (which is fair enough! They've got plenty going on Smile) but I suspect they haven't been informed any more than I have.
In the last approx. 5 years, I only know of one child who has taken exams for independent schools so it's defo not a common occurrence in our school and I never asked them to follow up for me etc etc. So, the wait continues Smile

123EyesOnMe · 04/02/2020 18:54

@villagegirlatheart - I think 4 boys sat the exam from my son's school...but I don't actually know them or their families so none the wiser. The school def doesn't have any history of boys going to RGS...or any other private schools for that matter. Only a few families are considering private as an option and it's a big school.

Sunfish · 04/02/2020 19:37

No post for us, commented to the head, all he said was that it could be one of 2 options hopefully, so not giving anything away! We had 3 boys sit the exam, 2 for 13+ and one for 11+, he had an call back interview so has to wait till after 14th...

AtiBati · 05/02/2020 13:03

Hi Everyone,

I have got a question from a friend who is not on here, but after speaking to her we decided maybe you guys would be able to give us your opinion on this one.

This is the story. Her son sat the RGS exam, went back for maths interview, they have applied for a bursary. Then this morning she has a call from RGS finance department asking for more documentation because they are now looking into the bursary.

Surely, they would not do this is he was not going to be offered a place?

What do you guys think? Should she start celebrating or is it still too risky?

123EyesOnMe · 05/02/2020 13:21

@AtiBati.... Personally, I wouldn't be celebrating just yet. My gut reaction was really positive BUT the Finance department is entirely separate. So in theory it is quite possible that they are just getting their ducks in a line for all potential bursary candidates (ie. all applicants with interviews and all with firm yes's). That way, they have the necessary paperwork and admin done in advance...they need to have this before offers go out in case someone who's applied for a bursary doesn't actually qualify, in which case they could offer a place but not a bursary... Fingers-crossed though!!
