Hello fellow parents, Just wanted to start a thread on RGS Guildford, which our children will be sitting on 11th January 2020. Not long now.

@ErmieMum.... I think the letters are definitely all in the post...but I suspect for one reason or another it may be a few days before all are received. I agree that it's likely to be end of next week before anyone can really start breathing any sigh of relief.... Wine

Definitely time for a nice G&T... and possibly another log on the fire... then making peace with what will be will be... Ah life so full of surprises, just keep in the moment, in the now and know your DS has done his best!

@ErmieMum Is it really only one person on here that got a no letter or do you think some people just haven’t come back on to let us know? Probably busy yesterday mopping up the tears 😞 How many of us are there on here do you know?

I really like to know too. Although it could be that only small number who didn’t get 2nd interview maybe?? Does anyone know how many applied I total for how many places? How many got 2nd interview? The wait is very stressful! I do hope that they sent the nos in one batch rather than spreading them all well

From our school I know of 5 boys who got the NO letter yesterday. So the letters were definitely sent on Friday.

@firsttimer as far as I understand it for 13+ candidates there are no call back interviews for either borderline candidates or potential scholars. They will either receive a straight rejection letter (expected amy day now along with the 11+ rejection letters) OR they will receive one of 2 letters on Feb 14th:

  1. "We're not sure, come back and sit another test in January 2021 and we will consider your application again.
  2. Yes, we would like to offer you a place (conditional on reasonable levels of achievement in Common Entrance tests in the summer of y8. If you and your prep school think it's worth it your son can sit a scholarship exam in Y8.

Just to be clear - I haven't got an older boy at the school, so I am no expert on RGS entrance. This is just what I have gleaned from open days, school literature and previous MN threads.

@R272727... the stats on how many applied/number of places/number of second interviews etc etc are all detailed higher up this thread. Roughly 1:4 chance for 11+ though, and seemingly about 50% of those interviewed are offered places...

@HampshireGirl123 I did a rough count and about 40-42 of us have hit this thread sometime or the other this year. Number includes the 13+ although i've tried to exclude the veterans (previous yr ones).

That's quite a lot so I am sure more people will come back in the week after digesting the news or more letter deliveries. Good luck all (fingers crossed)

Yes I have a similar feeling... there must be a few letters still in the postal system or being posted in batches?

Would be nice to hear of any more confirmed no’s if there are any.

Just to update those waiting...our post has just arrived and there is nothing from RGS. We live in Guildford (just in case that makes any difference whatsoever!) Fingers crosses to all waiting 🤞
