And now it begins!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this BB0815. I hope something comes through for your DS, that will be the right place for him.

PandaFan · 02/02/2019 11:52

Thank you BB0815 for updating us and I hope your DS will have other good news coming.

We have not yet had any offers so finding the waiting very painful!

Dilovescake21 · 02/02/2019 11:54

Thank you BB0815 - that’s really helpful information to know. I think our post is delayed due to bad snow so maybe Monday for us if a “no” letter or fingers crossed we are in the clear (a long shot!). Sorry to hear that you haven’t had good news - it’s a truly horrible process.

BB0815 · 02/02/2019 12:05

Thanks all, i am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason so the right fit is out there somewhere - just disappointed for him as he thought he had done well. One more to go so not all hope lost as yet (although Reeds was probably the best chance, but you never know). 🤞

Prufrockspeach · 02/02/2019 12:29

St Johns offers went out today too so hopefully anyone with a "no" might get a yes from them as I know that this was a popular alternative...maybe they time it so good news comes at the same time as bad?

GU24Mum · 02/02/2019 12:34

We had a callback from RGS and got a waiting list letter from St John's so I'm not feeling very optimistic about anything at the moment!

Elpis2019 · 02/02/2019 13:31

Ok post been and gone nothing in there for us from RGS

OP posts:
Prufrockspeach · 02/02/2019 13:55

Don't worry GU24Mum - apparently the waitlist places always come up at St Johns as it is a back up for lots of people. Plus the two tests were so different - according to my DS there was no chance to shine at math and the VR was very focused on vocabulary. Perfectly feasible to do really well at RGS and not so well at St Johns.....

PandaFan · 02/02/2019 14:36

Stay strong GU24Mum.. The RGS callback tells you they are interested in your DS, so plenty of hope for you there! The multi-choice format did not suit my DS, so a callback might have given him a chance to go back in and show what he can do..

As it is, the postman has still not been! So we still know nothing here!

lewisk · 02/02/2019 15:30

Well, we got the letter today - unfortunately it was a no, but I think it has made a tricky decision easy for us, we are off to Reeds and very happy and excited about it. Just a shame that both my boys won't be at the same school as my eldest is at RGS and does love it. Good luck to everyone else - the right fit is out there for everyone as BB0815 says and they are all so little and develop at different rates, these exams are tough!

Prufrockspeach · 02/02/2019 15:39

Sorry to hear lewisk - but Reeds is also a fantastic school and sometimes its good for brothers to carve their own paths at different senior schools (especially if they are competitive).

I do feel sorry for our boys as it really is tough out there with so much competition at all school. I only hope they reform the process for when its time for my DS3 as I'm not sure I can go through this all again!

Bin85 · 02/02/2019 15:46

Thinking of everyone today
To those of you who didn't get in it used to be possible with good GCSE grades to join for 6 th form

GU24Mum · 02/02/2019 16:02

Thanks prufrockspeach and PandaFan. Am telling myself everything will work out but this is certainly not the highlight of parenting a son. Thankfully the others are girls!!!

Starlilly88 · 02/02/2019 16:16

Anyone know anything about the wait list at Reeds? My DS is on it but it's such a popular school I can't imagine he'd get in

Elpis2019 · 02/02/2019 16:17

Lewick sorry to hear that. My DS really likes Reeds, it might well be his first choice.

OP posts:
Elpis2019 · 02/02/2019 16:27

Strlilly how do u get on a waiting list?

OP posts:
lewisk · 02/02/2019 17:08

Thank you all. On balance I am delighted that my D little S is going to Reeds, I think it will suit him well. I was never 100% on RGS for him, not sure how well he would have coped. Starlilly88 I'm afraid I don't know anything about the waiting list but I know that there is a lot of movement on waiting lists in general at the moment. My eldest went to RGS but was offered a place at Hampton the night before we had to get acceptance letters in, shows how late in the day changes happen. I would not be at all surprised if your DS gets a place, don't give up hope! Good luck everyone, I know it a very stressful time.

SusieQKew1 · 02/02/2019 17:37

We also applied to RGS - waiting to hear outcome

GooglieEye · 02/02/2019 17:41

Waiting lists move very quickly. Somone's aspirational school is also someone else's 2nd choice or back up school. Children take 3/4/5 exams for various schools. Some will get lots of offers. When my DS took the 11+ all of those from his school that took Reed's got an offer. None of them took it, mainly as it's too far away, so was used as a back-up in case of more local disasters. This must happen all over the place.

Starlilly88 · 02/02/2019 18:14

My DS put on the wait list as he's done well enough but not quite enough! I think more children are now taking more exams as parents are worried about getting into a school. The brightest kids will get 3-5 offers but only accept one, so hoping for a lot of wait list movement at 11+.

chardan · 03/02/2019 12:40

I did not realise this site existed until my neighbour told me, so found it interesting to read all the comments our postman came yesterday , but no post of interest for us so still waiting for DS results

Elpis2019 · 03/02/2019 13:30

Do we think that is that is? Is there likely to be another batch of letters?

OP posts:
gettingtooold · 03/02/2019 14:24

anyone get a no, who went for a music scholarship?

gettingtooold · 03/02/2019 14:24

can you be called for a music scholarship and end up with a no letter?

Elpis2019 · 03/02/2019 14:46

Gettingtooold check out Sassy5’s response on page 5 - they seem to indicate it’s possible.
