Anyone applying here this year. Nervous already.

There is an interview on the day but it is only about 10-15 minutes. It covers hobbies and interests and one "think on your feet" question.

Thanks Kay34 - great to have that confirmed!

makemineadouble72 · 23/01/2015 16:54

Someone at my DS's school was told by our admissions tutor that the "no" letters have definitely all gone out for 13+ and 11+ (unless you are interviewed). I have no idea who has got a "no" at our school as no-one is really sharing any information. Unless your letter is lost in the post, you are safe for now....and if you are 11+, you can start to feel very hopeful indeed!!!

The next step for us 13+ers will be to start stressing about when the "come back at 12+" letters get sent out....does anyone know how many of these there are....are the odds still even or stacked in our favour?

sazzy5 · 24/01/2015 11:04

Our post has been and gone, I can breathe now as day off from the post run tomorrow! Hope everyone else is holding up ok, another week of nervousness ahead!

beegee · 24/01/2015 11:11

That's great sazzy5 ...looking promising Smile

surreygoldfish · 24/01/2015 15:08

Reading this brings back memories of our anxious wait. Unless it's changed the 'come back at 12+' letters come out at the same time as a yes letter so its a tough wait for the 13+ group. Made me wish we'd gone for 11+. Boys from DS's school that tried again at 13+ were successful though. Not sure how much it depends on numbers - the current 2nd form have an extra class so I'm waiting to see how many join at 13 next year. Good luck with all the waiting.

butty4 · 24/01/2015 21:43

Same here sazzy5, no 'no' letter here either........another anxious week of waiting!

Mumtogremlins · 25/01/2015 09:12

No 'no' letter here either. I guess we are going to have to wait another 3 week to hear. Don't understand why it takes so long. If they get invited back for 12+, surely that means they are borderline and would nearer bottom of the class if they get into RGS? I wouldn't want DS to scrape in then struggle

MrAndMrsSmythe · 26/01/2015 14:50

Hi Everyone

First time poster here! we're also yet to hear back from RGS , i.e; we've received no scholarship offer, no interview, and no other letters at all. We applied for an 11+

What is the collective wisdom regarding this position? Is DS in a certain pool of candidates, historically with a likely outcome ? Where does DS sit relative to people who have interviews?

Has anyone heard from Reeds ? When are we likely to?

I'm seriously not enjoying this.... will we ? Won't we? Are we? Aren't we ? It's just getting worse by the day, and to think we're driving the school run with this going on in our heads !

Bin85 · 26/01/2015 15:12

Going on previous year's experience you should now be pretty certain of a place being offered.
Nothing is 100% though and I did hear that one year someone in this position got a rejection letter
Probably a rumour but possible if very unusual.
Cautious optimism and a lot of patience needed
Good luck

abbadabbadoo · 26/01/2015 15:52

Bin85 -I do hope your right. Not counting any chickens till the weekend though, but we do seem to be in line with 2013 timescales when all 'No's' were out by now. Issue is there are only a few on this board and we don't know loads of people who sat so hard to tell if all the 'Nos' are out. I emailed admissions but did not get a response. This process seems a very negative way to get what is possible positive news!
MrandMrsSmyth - Reeds results are with us Thursday this week so at least thats a clear 'Yes' or 'No'.

Tisawiedge · 26/01/2015 15:54

Who know!?? I am hoping it is positive. But they may not all have been sent as I think there are interviews still going on?

sazzy5 · 26/01/2015 16:13

Those having interviews are against each other if you like, a certain number will be offered places and they will have to wait until 14th February for a yes or no.

The scholarships have a guaranteed place and they know they're in.

We are in the Heard nothing pile which could be good news after this weekend. The no's were said to be out by the end of the month, so unless the post is lost all those receiving nothing so far should be in. It is nail biting and unnecessarily hard on the boys, and us of course! I have seen a few people post saying the 11+ no's were out but i won't believe that until i know someone personally.

butty4 · 26/01/2015 16:17

Yes I'm in agreement Bin85, I think if we make it to the weekend, it looks promising don't you think!!! No other children sat the exam from our school so still apprehensive whether all the 'no' letters are out. Have called admissions several times but it has always clicked onto the answer phone. I suspect they are avoiding anxious parents like me!!!!!!!!

Bert68 · 26/01/2015 17:26

The 13 NO's are out. I haven't heard of any 11 NO's personally yet. There were around 30 from DS year group at school who applied so only a fraction will get in. If the No's were all out, I'd thought we'd have heard of some as we did with the 13 No's. We heard of the Interview call backs too. Maybe, maybe not, but we won't know for a week yet.

Reeds are Thursday. Got CLFS today

butty4 · 26/01/2015 18:55

I have heard personally that the 11+ NO's are out. I am hoping they have all been sent out(not including the call backs) and the school are not doing so in phases!!!! I think by Saturday we will probably be in a better position of thinking that we are possibly in?! Bert68 did you mean 30 from your school applied for 11+ or 13?

Bert68 · 26/01/2015 19:29

oh that's good news then if they are beginnning to come out, Butty4. Around 30 (maybe more) were there on the day so for both 11+ and 13. Would have thought it would be split at least 2/3 in favour of 11+ but I can't be sure. I personally think they will be phased and linked to the interviews - last of which are on the 30th but that's just a guess. There aren't any on here who have no's for 11+ which doesn't sound right

Kay34 · 26/01/2015 19:54

At least some if not all 11+ are out. Three sat from DS school and the other two have 'no' letters. I understand agreeing a common yes posting date, but why is it so long after exams?

OP posts:
butty4 · 26/01/2015 20:22

yes Kay34 i have similar information of a friends school, 7 took the exam, 4 have 'no' letters, 2 for recall and 1 has heard nothing......so it would suggest most of the 11+ 'no's' are out. Seems crazy the yes's cannot be sent out by next week once scholarship exams/interviews are completed.

MrAndMrsSmythe · 26/01/2015 21:41

Thanks sazzy5 and abbadabbadoo

Being a 'Heard Nothing' I would absolutely hope your correct, really I hope for nothing more right now!

It seems the only process remaining is the interviews. If all the 11+ 'No's' are out , then reasonably , why can't
The 'Yes's' be notified ? From piecing together all the theories above, I wonder a few things ...

I suspect an 'interview ' could become a 'yes' , 'No' or a 'Come back at 12+' . If it has been decided who all the 'No's' are , and they have been informed , and the 'interviews' are "against each other if you like" , then the "straight Yes's " could be informed now , in the same way that the 'scholarships' already have, meaning the only people who need be in their state of misery still is the poor old 'interviews' . So ( if all No's ARE out) perhaps, I suspect one or more 'interviews' could pip and dislodge a "heard nothing " who is 'in the margins' and they could become a " very close , but please come back at 12+".

Which raises the question, can an interview become a "come back at 12+" ?

So I think what I'm saying is , (and im guessing!) if the "No's are all informed it's the "interviews" that will determine whether a "heard nothing" becomes /stays a 'yes' , or is edged in to "come back 12+" (more likely) or a "No" (less likely)...???

Bert68 · 26/01/2015 21:56

Hi MrAndMrsSmythe, come back at 12+ is only for 13 applicants. It's the equivalent of a call back interview where the boys are still question marks but they have more time to come back and do the exam again. For 11+ it can only be yes or no if you haven't heard anything yet

beegee · 26/01/2015 23:04

We are a recall 'interview' wait and see. Not easy and really not sure why it takes so long to decide now.. Am I right in thinking all recalls were last week for 11+ ?? Why the wait until middle February to let us know? How many are called back for further interview? I suppose if there's a lot, then that would take some time, but the call back interview was very quick and there was not much to it, tbh Confused
Do you think the time spent now is working out bursary/scholarships? So an offer goes out with specific fee owed?? Perhaps that is why it takes longer...
You see...I'm OBSESSING now! someone make it stop. What will I be like mid Feb?

MrAndMrsSmythe · 27/01/2015 00:10

Thanks Bert68. That makes it slightly simpler...

Thanks v.m. Bin85. Didn't see your post there. Are you applying this year too?

Bin85 · 27/01/2015 07:41

No not applying personally this year
(Did so 97 and 98 ha ha)
Am a teacher so have followed threads like this for years
Good luck everyone

sazzy5 · 27/01/2015 07:43

Bee gee there is another interview date in Friday, I think it is so hard for the call back candidates as the boys have to go through the extra session and it gets your hopes up, then the long wait! Hang in there.
