Anyone applying here this year. Nervous already.

Ha -ha indeed Bin85 ! Has the process remained much the same since then ? Perhaps you are the authority on this subject then? I'm sure it can't be much fun seeing grown people here reduced to mush Grin

abbadabbadoo · 27/01/2015 11:53

I believe no one officially knows (except the 'No's') before the process is fully complete for legal reasons. The school does not want to leave itself open to complains of favouritism should it not complete the full admissions cycle. So even though there is a majority of pupils who have heard nothing, it cant be made official until they have complete the cycle. Yes there is also the aspect of some extra admin and bursary work to build in, the fact they have a high number of candidates and dealing with 13+ too.

Mumtogremlins · 27/01/2015 13:31

What does the come back at 12+ actually mean? Is it that they are borderline or they just need another year to mature? Does anyone know if most children get in at 12? Trying to decide what we will do if we get a 12 letter and get accepted at other schools

Kay34 · 27/01/2015 14:42

Wikipedia - the source of all knowledge - says 3-5 boys enter the school at 12+. I would find it hard to turn down other schools now on the basis of a chance of a 12+ place.

I think you would have to accept elsewhere and it may be that places become available at 12+ which the 12+ candidates are given priority for. Even if a place came up I am sure most boys would be happily settled in a new school with friends and not want to switch.

Not sure about 12+- it's not a great option as you are left in limbo.

Bin85 · 27/01/2015 15:03

Yes it's the same
Though I think this is the first year they have interviewed for VR
It also seems they are interviewing more boys this year but that is just my gut feeling

Bin85 · 27/01/2015 15:04

Yes I know I should be on Gransnet but I like it here!

sazzy5 · 27/01/2015 15:58

I have been told by my Head that all the no's are out-sorry only up to 11 so only 11+ relevant. So all those waiting Smile only lost in post as a negative.

butty4 · 27/01/2015 16:21

Good news all the 'no's' (excluding recalls)are out....... But potentially all us which have not heard a thing we could also be a 12+ recall candidate!!!!!

sazzy5 · 27/01/2015 16:32

The come back at 12+ is only for those sitting the 11+.

sazzy5 · 27/01/2015 16:37

I meant to say they're only for the 13+!

Kay34 · 27/01/2015 16:38

I think its the other way from the Admissions Suplement.

For 11+ its either a recall interview, a no or a yes.

For 13+ its a no, a yes, or a 12+try again.

I still need to see the offer letter before I stop worrying.......

sazzy5 we crossed , but agree!

sazzy5 · 27/01/2015 16:42

Kay34 I know I need the letter saying yes too, but think having heard the head say the no's are all out I am not so petrified!

notsomellowyellow · 27/01/2015 21:37

My DS sat the entrance exam on 10th Jan, we were surprised to get a recall interview letter on 16th Jan and then the interview itself on 20th Jan.

It was really, really hard to gauge how the interview went and now all we can do is sit and wait for the results. DS is handling it all really well and doesn't seem to care too much but I am dying with the wait!

From what I understand no news is good news but we could still get a no even after such a long wait, especially given the recall interview.

Does anyone know if the recall interview 'no's' come out before the recall interview yes's??? Do we really have to wait until 13th Feb to still get a no?

sazzy5 · 28/01/2015 10:40

Notso I think you have to wait to the bitter end, it's a really hard process! The last of the interviews is Friday. Fingers crossed for your DS.

butty4 · 28/01/2015 11:59

Fingers crossed to all those doing interviews Friday......Good Luck

beegee · 28/01/2015 21:41

Hi Notsomellowyellow.. We are in the same boat, waiting for after recall interview. And like you it's difficult to gauge what they were looking for on that recall and how it went. It seems particularly tense knowing that the recall no's will come out with all the recall and confirmed yes's.. How on earth am I going to open that letter?!?!
I think I might need someone to come and do it for me. I'll will probably pass out with either news.. Really really really not looking forward to it.
DS seems to have relaxed a bit now. He was quite tense after the recall and wanted to know quickly. 2 boys in his class have had 'no' letters. He is the only boy in the school waiting now.

notsomellowyellow · 29/01/2015 08:39

Good luck to your DS beegee - it's nice to know there are others in the same boat who are feeling it too!

Kay34 · 29/01/2015 15:34

Does anyone have any experience of sport at RGS. Ds is sporty although not played much rugby up to now but willing to give it a go. He plays hockey, football, cricket and swims (although we know football only in sixth form).

How much after school practice is there? Are there cliques?

OP posts:
sazzy5 · 29/01/2015 21:14

Kay34 our ds is very sporty too, the only draw back for me is sport. However he does a lot if sport outside of school so guess that just continues. He hasn't done rugby or much cricket but I guess they will learn! Really difficult to get the balance right!

Mumtogremlins · 30/01/2015 10:25

Heard today that DS has got into 2 other schools. So now the long 2 week wait for RGS!

harrison1999purple · 30/01/2015 10:57

Kay34, RGS has a lot of sport. Primarily Rugby in Autumn term, hockey in Spring and Cricket/Athletics in summer. The first teams are very competitive (sadly my sons never got in any of the first teams!) against other, similar schools. Cant comment on cliques but there seems to be something for everyone as they often field D teams (and 'The Socials', if you dont want to compete against other schools) After school practice is primarily for A and B teams (but when my son got into a B team he couldnt muster the enthusiasm to go!)..Bradstone Brook is a lovely facility, make sure you see it before your DS starts as I got lost at my son's first match!

beegee · 30/01/2015 13:04

Congratulations to you and your DS mumtogremlins. Hopefully there's good news coming from RGS too!
Fingers crossed for you too, Notsomellowyellow
I had loads of post today, and although I told myself there won't be any letter from RGS yet, my heart was missing many beats as I scanned through post. Of course there was nothing there. This wait is so long!

Kay34 · 30/01/2015 13:52

Harisonpurple and any other existing parents - are Mondays period 8 just for third form upwards. if so do years 1 and 2 have an equivalent?
