Anyone applying here this year. Nervous already.

Hi my son has also tried this year for 13+, has anyone heard if any 13+ no letters have been received at all? I have only heard about ones for those trying for 11 entry. Maybe they are being sent at different times...

Tisawiedge · 22/01/2015 12:52

Have all the nos been sent??? Anyone know?

Tisawiedge · 22/01/2015 13:00

Haven't heard of any nos yet from our school. Only 3 sat. - not that anyone is going to broadcast it ! Johnmclane - you've obviously had nos your end? But like you say they may be sending at different times?

makemineadouble72 · 22/01/2015 13:03

The "no" letters I heard about arrived yesterday, dated 20th Jan and they were for 13+. Not sure if they send them out in batches or all at the same time. I would imagine that sending everything at the same time would be more efficient for the school and leave less room for errors/omissions.....has anyone called the school to find out?

Mumtogremlins · 22/01/2015 13:15

I think I would rather get a 'no' than a come back at 12, as that really complicates things and leaves us in limbo for another year. It's quite harsh to wait until 14th Feb for a come back at 12 option

sazzy5 · 22/01/2015 13:15

I haven't heard of any no's but then again I haven't asked and no-one will be talking about it. I feel for the boys as the girls have most of their school choices back. I would guess they send the whole lot out at once unless they are really cruel!!

Kay34 · 22/01/2015 13:19

In previous years threads the admissions tutor has confirmed whether nos have been posted - I just can't summon the courage.....

OP posts:
makemineadouble72 · 22/01/2015 13:48

Would it be safe to assume that if boys in your school have received "no" letters then you're "safe".....(excluding the possibility of "lost in the post"). I would think they have to inform your headmaster first, and they wouldn't do that piecemeal....or would they?....don't want to get my hopes up!!! Mumtogremlins...I agree that a "come back at 12+" on Feb 14th would be the cruellest blow of all. Don't think I could bear to go through this whole process again..my nerves couldn't take it!!!

Tisawiedge · 22/01/2015 13:53

Don't feel like celebrating as we don't know for definite that the nos have all been sent??

butty4 · 22/01/2015 14:20

I'm with you on this one Tis, I think if we get through this week and next then we can feel more confident about being 'in'!!!! Just tried calling the admissions office to clarify if 'no' letters have been sent out, unfortunately it clicked onto answer phone, chickened out leaving a message....how silly!!. Going to try again later.

sazzy5 · 22/01/2015 14:36

Butty4 you are braver than me, I am keeping my head in the sand!! I haven't heard of any other no's which is why I am so nervous-not that I want anyone to get a no but YKWIM. :-)

AnxiousFromSurrey · 22/01/2015 14:42

Sazzy5, slightly off topic but noted your comment on the girls' schools. Just wondered if you knew whether anyone had heard from GHS yet?

sazzy5 · 22/01/2015 15:16

Anxious don’t think anyone has heard from GHS either, I imagine they use a similar agonizing process! It just seems that very few boys schools give anything away until late so the poor boys haven’t got a safe offer in their back pocket. I think that is what is making me so nervous!!

AnxiousFromSurrey · 22/01/2015 15:29

Thanks Sazzy. I do think the RGS process sounds awful, and sympathise with all of you waiting to hear. The GHS process is much simpler as everyone is interviewed on the exam day and then I believe all the letters - yes and no - are posted out on the same day (this Friday I hope)

Tisawiedge · 22/01/2015 17:28

Butty4. - did u ring office again??!

johnmclane · 22/01/2015 17:53

Someone I know has emailed the admissions office who have confirmed that all 13 entry "no"s were posted on Tuesday evening. The answer was specific to 13 entry as that was what they had asked about .

Also confirmed that 12 recalls would be sent mid feb.
As we know some 11+ "no"s are out it would be reasonable to suggest that all "no"s were indeed sent on Tuesday too!

Still nervous about lost post and 12+ recall but will cross that bridge if it comes

Tisawiedge · 22/01/2015 18:09

Tx for info! Sounds promising but who knows??!!

butty4 · 22/01/2015 21:20

Hi Tis, didn't get a chance to call back got caught up with work. Going to try calling again tomorrow. Interesting info johnmclane.

beegee · 22/01/2015 23:43

Kay34
I didn't ask about when I'd be told as DS was with me and wanted to be casual, but I think for 2nd interview boys it's the middle of February till we get a yes or a no, along with the 'yes' post. The majority of 'no' letters I believe have gone out. Another applicant from ds's class got a 'no' letter yesterday - he was applying for 11+

Kay34 · 23/01/2015 09:19

Thanks Beegee, my fingers are crossed for you.

OP posts:
sazzy5 · 23/01/2015 10:32

Is anyone brave enough to ring or email about the 11+?! I am clearly not brave and a big coward!

Beegee that is hard having to wait so long, at least with us inbetweeners we will know after the end of January. I know some of the interviews are going on next week as well, so a long process!

Bin85 · 23/01/2015 11:09

Following with interest

beegee · 23/01/2015 12:11

It IS a long process, yes sazzy5. It will feel sad indeed if we get to middle of Feb and then it's a 'no'. Sad I know he'd bounce back reasonably quickly though. Our alternative is good local comprehensive and all his friends are due to go there.. So, we have that to hang on to in case of disappointment.

Fingers crossed for you too, Kay34. You haven't heard anything yet, then? That must be a good sign, surely. .? I can't remember if you've said before but, is RGS your first choice?

Kay34 · 23/01/2015 12:27

Currently a parent /offspring difference of opinion on preferred school. We don't want to start the debate in earnest until we know whether there is a choice to make iyswim. We haven't heard anything from anyone so all up in the air. No one from our school has heard anything, or at least that is what the DS's think.

OP posts:
ShannonB · 23/01/2015 12:36

I hope you don't mind me jumping on to this thread. I have been reading with interest as we are considering putting our ds forward for RGS next year so any info I can gather about the process will no doubt be very useful.

One question I had about 11+ entry is whether the boys also have an interview on the day of exams or if the decision is purely based on performance in the papers and the report from the child's current school? The reason I ask is because I've been told that they don't interview in the first instance, and that only those recalled are interviewed. However, I'm a little confused as the school's website suggests they are all interviewed and I've also seen reference to questions asked/answers given on this thread. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very grateful!

Wishing you all the best of luck and hope you hear back very soon.
