Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

LOL! Good job you had a decent reception or you could have inadvertently turned it down. Shock

atthecarwash · 14/02/2011 20:22

We're waitin patiently. We're well wthin the catchment but I know many people rent right by the schol to get in which is extremely unfair. If DS doesn't get a place we're stuffed!

Bunbaker · 14/02/2011 20:26

No tests required here for the local (good) high school. DD passed the entrance exam for the independent high school in the next city, but we can't afford to send her there as they have refused us a bursary.

The primary school is a feeder school for the local secondary and we are well within the catchment area so I can't see DD not getting a place.

GORGEOUSX · 14/02/2011 20:37

oh no atthecarwash that IS unfair. I do hope your DC gets in. Here, sit down, have a Wine

GORGEOUSX · 14/02/2011 20:39

Bunbaker Fingers X. Do sit down. Here Wine

GORGEOUSX · 15/02/2011 09:30

2 more weeks...... Shock

CrosswordAddict · 16/02/2011 15:03

GORGEOUSX Am right behind you. Hope you get what you want. We don't have grammars here (pity) but I can remember driving all around the village to intercept the postman.

MarinaResurgens · 16/02/2011 16:10

Good luck, this was us this time last year. In SE London you know the results of the local 11 Plus results before the online form has to be submitted (except St Olaves and Newstead Woods, the superselectives in LB Bromley).
The stress made me ill even though things were very straightforward for ds and we were extremely fortunate with the outcome.
FWIW, ALL his Year 6 friends have settled well in a huge range of selective and non, state and independent secondary schools. And quite a few of them did not get their first or even second choices.
Sending you all encouraging and lucky vibes and well done to your ds Cristina!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 16/02/2011 18:25

Thanks you, MarinaRe.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 16/02/2011 18:26

D'oh. Thank you.

GORGEOUSX · 17/02/2011 09:52

LOL at CrosswordAddict. Thanks for your support.

GORGEOUSX · 17/02/2011 09:56

MarinaResurgens You're so right. This is second and last time for me. I'm strangely calm at the moment though (calm before the storm?)

Thanks for your message of support. Smile

IslaValargeone · 17/02/2011 13:24

Can I just ask re grammar schools..Even if your child has been told they have passed the exam the previous October, do you still have to wait until March until you know whether they actually have a place?

MarinaResurgens · 17/02/2011 14:43

Yes, usually. It really does depend on the local conditions. For example, ds passed the local 11 Plus in the Top 180. That local authority guarantees a grammar school place of choice to any child in that position provided they put the school down on the CAF. We knew that result in October. We still had to wait until March to receive official confirmation of the place.
He also sat another 11 plus which did not have a Top 180 system so it was all done on catchment area. He got that place too as it happens but we really didn't know for sure until March because the catchment area varies from year to year.

Idoodee · 17/02/2011 20:07

Anyone out there know what time Dorset send out the notification emails on the 1st March?
Confused

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:32

am waiting for the the indep school offer which may be on mat today... There is no way we can afford dd to go unless she has got a large scholarship as she has mutiple siblings who may wish to follow her there. I haven't agreed not to open the envelope, and am not sure will be able to stop myself. I have agreed to log on,on mar 1st with her...if like lots of others can find my details! ( wonders if that is what causes system to crash- the multiple requests or new passwords!!)....
Shall I or shan't I????

willow · 18/02/2011 10:37

Where the fuck is my postman?

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:40

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:41

willow · 18/02/2011 10:48

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:51

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:53

LISTERIA ARGHHHHH

friendlyedjit · 18/02/2011 10:55

fingers crossed for all those waiting.. for post today/tomorrow.. and then we do it next week too!

chatee · 18/02/2011 10:57

like cristina, i now also know which school dd will be attending as it is named on her statement of special educational needs

and yes dd has got into the school of her choice

but now we have the battle to get the statement re written as it just is not good enough to support her needs, even the lea officer acknowledged that "we are legal as we have named the school by feb 15th-now we can discuss what is actually in the statement"

naively, i was thinking that when the statement arrived it would contain all the accurate information needed to transfer to secondary school but sadly no.- the fight continues!

willow · 18/02/2011 11:35

Judging by his speed today, my postie is also on the bloody sherry. Either that or he is too busy going through every envelope to see if it contains money. Oh the number of cards we get that have been "just a little bit" opened. Funny how never happens to the flipping bills.
