carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Oops how do people work this? I've only made small amounts before so just left it sitting in my PayPal account and eventually bought other things with it! But if I ever make a significant amount selling I'd like to "withdraw" it from Paypal- is it best to wait until you have a decent amount there? You get charged a % don't you?

Tortoise · 29/01/2012 09:27

Caz I personally can get a lot listed using scheduling trick.
Paypal no charge for with drawing. I thought there was for under £50 but my boyfriend does it for less and doesn't seem to get charges.
And if you want to know if an item you have will sell, put it in search and then select completed listings from selections down the side. On my phone its easier to do plus I can select sold items as well as completed. Not sure if that option is on the website or not.
HTH.

I have bids on two items so far and watchers on 4 out of 5 items. Fingers crossed the 4 of them sell. I won't be too disappointed if the 5th doesn't sell - it's a sun shade for a buggy so I should have waited a while before listing but got a bit carried away with listing the buggy stuff last week Grin.

Feeling really rough today but hoping to drag myself off the sofa for long enough to list a couple more items. Need to get back in the swing of things!

ragged · 29/01/2012 09:57

aack! Only 2 things sold out of 17 ,but not all bad, about £27 net.

carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 10:12

ragged that is still a good total.

I am debating what to do with my items that don't sell tonight. I should really keep them until the next free listing weekend and relist then. I will have to hunt around for 99p items if I do though because I don't like the thought of having almost no listings Shock

Maybe I should just pay up the fees and relist Grin

Come on, people of Britain, bid on my stuff! Still only one item with a bid, but loads of watchers. Grr....

I never have to withdraw money from Paypal, as I buy all sorts of bits and pieces from eBay myself (junk in, junk out....Hmm).

Caz10 · 29/01/2012 14:04

Thanks tortoise! I am looking at everything in my house with a different view now...hard to think not what would I buy on eBay, but what would other people buy!

Next question- do people find that watchers turn to bidders nearer the end of an auction? Or not necessarily so?

carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 14:09

It really varies. I have had 10 or more watchers on an item and no bid and no watchers but then a bidding war. You really can't predict.

As for what sells - I am constantly amazed. I list beautiful things and they don't sell brilliantly, then list dodgy, quite worn items, (describing it exactly as it is) and it sells with a bidding war. If in doubt, list it at 99p and see what happens rather than chucking it in the recycling.

My dd is worried the house will be empty soon if I keep selling everything. That is in no danger of happening sadly.

What happens if a non paying case is opened and still no response from buyer? How many days do you give it?Mine was two days ago and all ebay can say is that I have opened a non-paying case to which there has been no reply.

jardy · 29/01/2012 17:15

PS,I am just about to sell some stuff, and will let you know how it goes!

roguepixie · 29/01/2012 17:43

jardy, if you have opened an non-paid item case then you will get an automatic prompt from Ebay in a few days to ask/suggest you close the case. You then get your fees back and they get an "unpaid item" strike against them.

I'm surprised to see my bundle of famous five books are upto £6 so far. Ending tonight.

carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 18:44

Ooh! Good luck everyone. Dh's aftershave is up to £33 and there are still 2 and a bit hours to go Shock

I have famous five books and Malory Towers and Trebizon etc in the loft. Boxes and boxes of them. I am not sure I could sell them though.

OP posts:
Tortoise · 29/01/2012 19:13

They ended on £6.

Caz10 · 29/01/2012 19:19

Oh, don't know if I could part with them if I still had them! I am generally very good at decluttering and take a bag to the charity shop probably every other week. So now I think I will just list it all for 99p each and wait a week before it goes! Who knows, I may make my fortune yet...

carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 19:33

Well if it doesn't you can still take it to the charity shop but I imagine the majority will go.

I am trying to stop going back and looking at my listings all the time. If all goes well I am up to £55 for everything that ends today. I hope people pay up.

Caz10 · 29/01/2012 20:29

I have a few bits on just now and check them on my phone Oooh roughly every 30 seconds lol!

jardy · 29/01/2012 20:37

PS,I am just about to sell some stuff, and will let you know how it goes!

jardy · 29/01/2012 20:38

Loaded 20 items tonight.Phew! That was mega for me because my computer is so so slow ( must buy another from ebay)

CointreauVersial · 29/01/2012 20:38

Another £35 tonight, bringing my total up to £108. A few more to finish tomorrow, then a load more already listed for next week.

DH can't believe it. I haven't even made the tiniest dent in the boxes full of stuff in the loft.

I won't be able to list anything next weekend as we are away over half term, so won't be able to post. I will have to list double the weekend after, won't I?

Hope you are all turning junk into gold!

jardy · 29/01/2012 20:44

Any one know why ebay protests if I try and ask more than 99p?
I followed a fellow msnetters advice and tried to put £2 etc but blow me it kept highlighting the price thingy.I think the same with postage.Do the two have to be in syn,not sure.Anyway it meant the lot went for 99p starting price, bit confused by it ConfusedThank you roguepixie,(love your name,I was a pixie in Brownies, hated it!) I am sure I will become more confident as time goes on.

carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 21:19

£66.50 so far tonight. I can't believe it. Dh's aftershave went for over £36 in the end. That is for a 2/3 full bottle. I nearly chucked it out!

It seems that boys' Geox trainers with lights also sell well.

I am really, really chuffed.

We have more ending tonight and some more tomorrow night.

I think I will relist the stuff that didn't sell. I am officially addicted and can't wait for another free listing weekend Blush

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2012 21:20

jardy I am really sorry. I have no idea why that would be happening.
