carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

Another £75.00 this week. My total for January is £402.40 which I am totally chuffed with. Don't think I've got another £400 worth of stuff left in the house, sadly GrinGrinGrin.

Onwards and upwards throughout February...really want to get these DVD's and CD's gone.

Caz10 · 29/01/2012 22:54

Wow that is amazing! What did you sell?!

mogs0 · 29/01/2012 23:26

Well done everyone! My items still have a couple of days to go but the watchers are increasing steadily so fingers crossed some of them bid.

I need to increase my target to £400 because I've just foolishly bought a buggy off eBay for that price and need to soften the blow by selling lots of crap treasure!

I, too, would be interested to hear what you've ebayed, rogue!

PurpleFrog · 30/01/2012 09:05

With eBay you definitely win some and lose some. You have to look at the overall picture and not dwell on individual sales.

Those people who are selling video games and DVDs should definitely make sure that they check out Amazon Marketplace as well. You have to look at the prices people are listing/selling for in both places, before deciding where to list your stuff. It is free to list on Amazon and you can change your price or make the listing inactive at any time.

I had a major triumph about 10 days ago with a Nintendo DS game. They were selling for around 5.99 on eBay. I had a look at Amazon - no used ones were currently for sale. There were 2 new ones for sale at 99.99 (I reckoned these were sellers who had no stock just holding their place). So I listed my game as "Very Good" for 9.99. I then checked out the Trade-In value and nearly died - £24 for Very Good and £30 for Like New. Shock So I quickly cancelled my listing and traded the game in. I sent it off last Monday and was credited with an Amazon Gift Certificate for £30 later in the week. Grin Grin

It looks like the Trade-In value is calculated as a certain percentage of the new value of the game. Smile

Sounds like everyone is doing really well.

Caz10 I used to get the special limited edition Kipling Monkeys free from work and they always sold like crazy so I started listing the normal ones. Anything I don't need that doesn't weigh a huge amount gets listed on eBay, if it doesn't sell after a couple of listings it goes to the charity shop. Anything that might be useful or collectible to someone is extra ££ in my pocket.

I never use the scheduling trick (in fact I didn't know about it until I joined this thread). I try and add 3 a day (to keep my profile active), and then the full 100 when it's free listing days and I always use 10 day listings. The time swallower for me is packing up: I had 8 packages to send today.

Up to £552 for me now :) Tuesday is when my free listing weekend listings start finishing so hopefully that will boost my total too. :)

carrotsandcelery · 30/01/2012 10:49

rogue I too would like to know what sort of thing you were selling.

Purple that is a very interesting tip. I am going to look into that one with games etc in future. Thank you.

I think my total for the month is about £172. I am really pleased with that as I am half way to target already.

Can I join, 1st listing of the year here

carrotsandcelery · 30/01/2012 14:30

Hi Phantom Welcome to the thread. Your listings look great. I hope you do well.

I have posted what I can from last night but I have one non payer.

I have also looked up one of my wii games on Amazon trade in and they are offering me more than I had the game listed for. My only problem is I don't have a printer so can't print their free postage label.

Hopefully I can do it at my ddad's.

Sorry all, not ignoring you...just got really tired and then no checking MN before work Confused.

I have been selling lots of DVD's and CD's and I have been given quite a lot of stuff like Juicy tracksuit bottoms, the odd purse/bag, t-shirts that DS has outgrown etc. Some weeks I have barely made anything whilst other weeks it seems lots go. With DVD's/CD's I have found that they tend to get no interest at all then half a dozen go in the last few minutes!!

It all adds up. For January I have made £402.40. Am really pleased Smile. I am aiming for £100/150 for February as I just don't have the quality of stuff to sell now.

I also have a non-payer from the first listing. I sent the invoice then contacted twice politely requesting payment...no reply, so I opened a non-paid case. I know it doesn't seem to bother some but I block any bidder with a score that's less than -1. It's a shame people can't just reply that they made a mistake/don't want it...as annoying as that would be it is at least polite. Hmm, some people Hmm.

mogs0 · 30/01/2012 18:05

I've just remembered I have a tent to eBay so might be able to reach the target quicker than I thought. An identical one sold yesterday for £200 Shock. I wonder whether I should leave it a couple more weeks until this cold weather has passed.

carrotsandcelery · 30/01/2012 20:57

Oh good luck with the tent mogs.

I made the grand total of ...£6 tonight Shock bringing the total for the month to £178. I have caved in and relisted most things that didn't sell. I couldn't resist.

OP posts:
Tortoise · 30/01/2012 22:32

Mogs I think you might get more for the tent if you wait a bit longer.

I listed some bits Sunday and a few more tonight including a Jack Wills hoody which has 5 watchers already and got a bag of famous 5 books in charity shop I help out in. All old ones from 70s which were headed for the bin Shock because they thought they were too old to sell. Will donate some money back to the shop if they sell.

CointreauVersial · 30/01/2012 23:27

Only £8.50 from tonight's finishers, bringing me up to £117 so far. Never mind, it all counts.

rebecklet · 31/01/2012 10:38

Everything counts, was very happy to see I am up to £610 this morning, although a couple of people must have given me a 4 instead of a 5 in feedback for postage as I have dropped from an average of 5 to 4.8 :(

carrotsandcelery · 31/01/2012 10:44

It does all add up Cointreau - little bits here and there and you suddenly have a grand total Smile

OP posts:
mygirllollipop · 31/01/2012 11:08

I sold about 5 more games and my total is now £62.46.
Have de-cluttered bookshelves and have quite a bit to write up but it;s taking some effort!

jardy · 01/02/2012 19:49

Out of 20 items I have 3 serious bidders, two for 99p and one for 0.01p.
My coat has gone back on after a non-payer was given every opportunity.
As it sold originally for $1.20 (sorry can you all get used to $ for pound cos pound sign does not work)it will be very interesting to see if I manage to get more.

mogs0 · 01/02/2012 19:53

I have 6 items finishing in the next hour. 5 have bids and also have lots of watchers so fingers crossed they get a couple more bids.

ChasTittyBeltUp · 01/02/2012 19:55

Can I join please? I've sold before but it's all been niche stuff. Vintage fabric, curtains and clothes. I have been meaning to do a clear of both DDs wardrobes and toys...I also have a lot of collectable tat stuff which usually fetches a few quid.

We need a car and I know I have abour 400 worth of stuff here! I have to set up my paypal....will do that tonight!

ChasTittyBeltUp · 01/02/2012 19:57

Can I also ask....do people package things as soon as they're listed? It seems like a good idea as when you have too many sales ending at once you end up with an evenings worth f wrapping! But it couldl be a pain if things are wrapped and someone wants to ask a question you can't answer...

jardy · 01/02/2012 19:59

I was going to sell quite a few books, but after looking at how poorly they sell I won`t bother, scrolled down many autobiograhies/biographies and not a single bid for miles, then only one.Not worth the trouble, unless you disagree!

jardy · 01/02/2012 20:00

Hi Chas,I did wrap my stuff up a couple of weeks ago and I did find it much easier to wrap things up and then add a label once sold.

Tortoise · 01/02/2012 20:01

I never package until item ended and paid for. Like you say, you might get a question. Also buyer might buy more than one item from you or you might end up with a non payer.

I have 26 watchers on the jack wills goody and 2 bids.Grin Fingers crossed for good result on it!

Tortoise · 01/02/2012 20:02

If you package up ready wouldn't you then need to label each package so you know what's in it?

Tortoise · 01/02/2012 20:23

Ok, can I have some opinions on what to do about this.
DS2 bought a £80 phone off ebay (well, I bid and won it and he paid me back). It was listed as £5 recorded postage. It arrived today by normal 1st class and cost under £2! If I was a dishonest buyer I could easily say it hadn't arrived. Do I contact and complain about postage service used? Or just leave it?

Or mess with them and claim it hasn't arrived yet, leave it until Monday and let them know finally arrived! (half joking but would teach them a lesson maybe lol)
