Does anyone want William as Prince of Wales?

I'm not keen.

Charles made an effort to learn Welsh.

I'm not sure how in touch William is with real life, poverty and politics.
He seems so very bland.

And so very, very English.

I like him and Kate. I'm sure they will do a great job.

I don't think we have any choice tbh.

He'll be fine in the role

BuwchGochGota · 09/09/2022 19:14

Big no from me.

Toomanybooks22 · 09/09/2022 19:17

I think he should be given the benefit of the doubt at least. I actually think William and Catherine could be very good.

Dw'in hapus i'w croesawu i Gymru, ein cartref... a'u rhai hwy yn Ynys Mon o'r blaen!!

Prince William also speaks Welsh

”Does William know Welsh?
Yes, Prince William speaks Welsh.

Being able to speak Welsh is an important part of the role and so Prince William has taken it very seriously. William has been studying Welsh for a long time. He started learning it back in 1999 when he was studying at the prestigious Eton College.”

”Who in the royal family speaks Welsh?
Prince Charles knows Welsh because he is the Prince of Wales. Prince William learned the language in preparation to become Prince of Wales someday. Prince Philip and Prince Charles also speak German because Prince Philip is of German descent. No one knows for sure why Prince Harry speaks only English.”

smooththecat · 09/09/2022 19:23

I don’t think anyone has a choice to be frank.

OrangeTrifle · 09/09/2022 19:23

I'd rather have Harry.
He seems a bit more real.
William is a bit of a waxwork

Didn't they live in Anglesey for a while?

carefullycourageous · 09/09/2022 19:26

That's the whole point though - there is no choice.

Did you just copy that off Wikipedia or something?

OrangeTrifle · 09/09/2022 19:28

I know we have no choice but if we had a vote which way would it go?

I'm happy that he is Prince of Wales. I'm sure he'll do a good job.

What is that job, to be exact? Even if they vaguely speak the language, speaking Welsh occasionally isn't a job. They'll experience how hard it is to pay the bills and put food on the table whilst living a life of luxury in Windsor with kids in private schools? They'll know what it's like to wait at the end of NHS waiting lists, or 4 hours for the emergency ambulance to turn up? Yeah, that's a job. How do the rest of us apply for it?

TroysMammy · 09/09/2022 19:41

I'm Welsh and definitely not a Princess and I can't speak Welsh except for remembering Mae Aled yn hoffi coffi from my infant class.

Novum · 09/09/2022 19:42

Too dim.

SO224350 · 09/09/2022 19:44

@OnTheBrinkOfChange

"Did you just copy that off Wikipedia or something?"

Probably, and the op should have checked too before starting such a ridiculous thread 🙄

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 09/09/2022 19:44

I mean, they actually lived in Wales, didn’t they?

Wouldloveanother · 09/09/2022 19:45

Don’t worry they’re equally out of touch with most of England.

I don’t think the point of the royals is to know what poverty is like, and most people in Wales don’t speak Welsh properly, so YABU really

Only someone dim would actually put that down in print.

OrangeTrifle · 09/09/2022 19:47

@SO224350 is that you Kate?

OP posts:
FrownedUpon · 09/09/2022 19:47

Harry? You’re joking surely. Not everyone needs to be a “personality.’ I’d rather have someone intelligent & thoughtful.

cowsaysmoo · 09/09/2022 19:48

What's the difference?

Isaidnoalready · 09/09/2022 19:53

He learned sign language when he had to give someone an award I think he is quite a kind and thoughtful character stoic as opposed to Harry's enthusiasm
