Does anyone want William as Prince of Wales?

I'm not keen.

Charles made an effort to learn Welsh.

I'm not sure how in touch William is with real life, poverty and politics.
He seems so very bland.

And so very, very English.

I don't see the problem. They'll be fine. It was always on the cards.

They're not Welsh, that's true. Neither were Charles and Diana.

I am very happy to have William and Catherine as the Prince and Princess of Wales. Both William and Harry have volunteered in Africa with people far poorer than most British people. I believe that both Diana and Charles made sure that "the boys" understood about poverty, homelessness, drug addiction etc as much as - and probably more than - most of us, who are lucky enough to have no real idea about any of those dreadful situations.

The Prince and Princess of Wales lived in Anglesey for several years while he was part of air sea rescue, and they loved it there. Being the Prince of Wales - as well as the Duke of Cornwall- brings it's own challenges, and I believe that it is a great stepping stone and learning opportunity before William becomes King in his own right.

I presume OP that you don't agree to there being a monarchy at all then? Even though I am a Royalist for several different reasons, I am not happy that we have to have Charles as King before we can have William, but I do accept it. I am also still angry and upset that Camilla is now officially Queen Consort - we were promised when he married Camilla that she would never be Queen, that is one promise to us that has already been broken.

You seem to be taking this rather personally…

All those who hate the constitutional monarchy system ... would you REALLY PREFER a 'President Johnson or Truss' or even Blair (to keep this non party political ?

I know I wouldn't...

Do you REALLY think these are the only options? Because if so, you need to do some reading.

Lots of countries have a nominal head of state with similar role to king/queen. And also a clear distinction about roles or president and pm so no Boris-like anti-parliament moves are permitted.

OrangeTrifle · 10/09/2022 09:26

I'm Welsh.

I was hoping by posting it in our Welsh topic we'd get a bit of debate.

I realise we have no choice.
I don't wish the Royal Family any harm but I would like NOT to have anyone as Prince/Princess of Wales.

I suspect William lived on Anglesey ready for this day.

It's all archaic and pointless. I wish William had his brothers guts and just steps away from all this pompous nonsense

I completely agree.

There will be an investiture, no doubt, costing how much £££? I might develop a grain of respect for William if he refuses an investiture and insists the money that would be used is given to food banks or to expand free school meals etc.

Somelikeitcool · 10/09/2022 10:27

That was meant as a reply to *OrangeTrifle

Pyewhacket · 10/09/2022 10:28

Yes, of course.

These "Lots of countries..." presumably don't, or didn't have, a King or Queen then, to have gone to the bother of making a position with a role similar to that of a King or Queen?

We don't need to do that because we already have a real King, after having a real Queen for 70 years - who happened to be loved and admired all over the World, even by people with very different political backgrounds to our own.

Because it is personal to me!

@TheLadyofShalott1 if there was an actual promise it was broken by the Queen HERSELF, and I for one am glad, I think Camilla has made the King a better man who will be a better King with Camillas support and fully deserves to be Queen Consort

BluePassportsAreBollocks · 11/09/2022 05:23

At least he knows and likes the place. Sussex got stuck with Harry and Meghan, I think they’ve only ever been once.

mrsjg · 11/09/2022 07:36

Watching Prince William at the accession ceremony yesterday I don't think he wants to be Prince of Wales either. He very much looked resigned to fate.

Vive la republique!

What a load of old baloney.

Just an fyi - it's spelt Bologna

Somelikeitcool · 11/09/2022 11:30

Baloney is in the dictionary.

Only if you’re typing from before the 1920s. It’s been a recognised spelling since then.
if you’re going to be pedantic it’s probably worth checking that you’re right first

I live in Wales and most people I know are very positive. I think it's a chance to put Wales on the world stage. They are an attractive couple and I think they'll be sensitive to the Welsh people.

If they were sensitive to the welsh people they wouldn't take on the role

Besides which, what does the prince of wales actually do for Wales?

DdraigGoch · 29/09/2022 09:14

OrangeTrifle · 09/09/2022 19:23

I'd rather have Harry.
He seems a bit more real.
William is a bit of a waxwork

Oh god know. Sussex can keep him, he fits in very well with everything that comes out of Sussex University and Sussex Police.

DdraigGoch · 29/09/2022 09:15

*no, not know

j712adrian · 29/09/2022 10:28

No, nobody wants him to do a role which is rightfully that of a Welsh person, or that of an elected head of state.

OrangeTrifle · 29/09/2022 10:58

@DdraigGoch what is wrong with Sussex?
I'm intrigued!

OP posts:
OrangeTrifle · 29/09/2022 11:00

The more time passes the more angry I am about it.

It's insulting to us, the Welsh.
If there is an investiture I hope there will be a massive protest.

The Welsh take too many things laying down from the English.

Have you seen why Sussex Police have been in the papers over the last few days? And what the University of Sussex did to Kathleen Stock?

Ramsbottom · 29/09/2022 22:19

Blimey you’re really fan girling over harry op, how odd 😂

tillyandmilly · 29/09/2022 22:20

Much prefer William - can’t stand Harry!
