Does anyone want William as Prince of Wales?

I'm not keen.

Charles made an effort to learn Welsh.

I'm not sure how in touch William is with real life, poverty and politics.
He seems so very bland.

And so very, very English.

All those who hate the constitutional monarchy system ... would you REALLY PREFER a 'President Johnson or Truss' or even Blair (to keep this non party political ?

I know I wouldn't...

OfficiallyBroken · 09/09/2022 21:18

I was hoping they'd let the title dissolve as it's only ever been about the subjugation of Wales to English rule. The role was only created to upset the Welsh in the first place.

William is the obvious choice for it, but frankly I'd have been more impressed if they just stopped using it.

No. He’s a pompous prig. I prefer Kate.

Yes. People are stupid enough to vote for the Tories but at least it’s democratic instead of you’re king because of whose fanny you came out of.

Its why England has a history. I'm not a royalist but I love the history of all those people who popped out of fannies! The people "we" vote in are there only because of their privilege aswell!!

They lived quite close to me in Anglesey. They did nothing at all locally, were not interested in the community or its people. Not that I'd expect them to- They were obviously placed there in preparation for being given these meaningless titles.
The monarchy is a truly ridiculous institution. I wish them all the best personally, but I do wish they'd all follow in Harry's footsteps.

FictionalCharacter · 09/09/2022 21:39

Do we even know whether he speaks Welsh? If not, surely he’d learn it like Charles did.
I’m not Mumsnetter of Wales, but if I was made Mumsnetter of Wales I’d learn Welsh.

I'd rather have Harry.
He seems a bit more real.
William is a bit of a waxwork

Real? Yes, if "real" means spewing out lies and vitriol about the royal family whilst being controlled by his equally vindictive, scheming and fame hungry wife. No thanks. Used to really like Harry back in the day, I can't stand him now. Even the King barely mentioned him in his speech today. William and Kate are great and will do amazingly well in their new roles. I relate to them far more than the other 2.

Wartywart · 09/09/2022 21:50

He'll be fine. Much like Charles was I should think.

Phos · 09/09/2022 21:52

It is a title bestowed on the heir apparent to the British throne and has been since the 14th century. It doesn't matter what you want.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 09/09/2022 21:53

I posted a comment that is a) factual and b) very amusing if you are actually Welsh but have been banished. Sad. So sad.

worriedatthistime · 09/09/2022 21:58

So you didn't want william as he doesn't speak welsh ( like a lot of welsh people) when you find out he indeed does , you then say you would prefer Harry , who doesn't speak welsh ?

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 09/09/2022 22:00

I think he and Kate will do a grand job.

Mfsf · 09/09/2022 22:04

Honestly what I want is a republic . Monarchy is outdated and makes nil political sense to have a head of state picked by linage

Completely agree. What difference will it make to anyone if he is the prince of wales or not.

2pinkginsplease · 09/09/2022 22:06

I think they are both the perfect couple to fill these roles.

kate has huge shoes to fill but I’m sure she will fill them well.

If you’re not a royalist then why are you arguing for a continuation of the monarchy?

Anon778833 · 09/09/2022 22:07

Btw I also find the history of these people interesting but that doesn’t justify their existence. Henry 8th is a case in point.

Harry would rather have California.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 09/09/2022 22:13

Why would Wales want a Prince? We are quite a socialist country.

Somelikeitcool · 09/09/2022 22:22

There's quite a lot I could say. Some of it has been said here already. So I'll just say an emphatic NO.

Prince William also speaks Welsh

”Does William know Welsh?
Yes, Prince William speaks Welsh.

Being able to speak Welsh is an important part of the role and so Prince William has taken it very seriously. William has been studying Welsh for a long time. He started learning it back in 1999 when he was studying at the prestigious Eton College.”

”Who in the royal family speaks Welsh?
Prince Charles knows Welsh because he is the Prince of Wales. Prince William learned the language in preparation to become Prince of Wales someday. Prince Philip and Prince Charles also speak German because Prince Philip is of German descent. No one knows for sure why Prince Harry speaks only English.”

Harry is not the brightest button in the box

Loki64 · 09/09/2022 22:49

I live in Wales and glad its been passed to Will.
Also, although im a welsh speaker myself...it is extremely rare I hear anyone here speak in welsh. It makes no difference if the Prince does or not.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 09/09/2022 22:52

How many people on this thread are Welsh? because can I tell those who aren’t.
