@ODAAT260718 mostly impatience at the moment!!

Yes I had the hycosy first of all and then we had our consultation by zoom. Then we had to buy sperm etc and then when we were ready to do our consents we got sent all the forms and the consents appointment was by zoom as well. I would have much preferred in person but I thought it was actually ok. I was glad to have had my bloods taken for my IUI even though it was 50 minute round trip drive every other day as that felt more real! And then it was IUI time before we knew it. If we're not successful on our first go which I'm not really expecting to be, we're planning to go straight into a second go in December assuming the clinic are happy with that which I would assume they would be, just hoping dates line up as a few days out with my period would push ovulation very close to Christmas day!

ODAAT260718 · 29/11/2020 07:22

Thanks @ally99101 it's good to hear others experiences. Looking back on the thread it seems people see the first go as a trial run so I think that is what I shall try to concentrate on. Do keep us posted how things go for you.

BananaHammock23 · 29/11/2020 07:44

Good luck @ally99101 - I'm in 2ww now as well. We find out on 7th Dec but I feel convinced I can't be pregnant so I'll be pleasantly surprised if I am. Are you doing stimulated or natural cycles? Just FYI our clinic made us wait until our next 'natural bleed' before we did our second round of IUI, so I bled straight after then had to wait for the next one.

@ODAAT260718 welcome and good luck! Definitely good to go into the first round as a trail run I think. I did two rounds of IUI but both were abandoned before the insemination as I didn't respond to the medication. It was gutting at the time but also proved to be very useful as when it came to having IVF; the consultant knew exactly what medication I needed to be on and we had a really successful collection. I'm now in my 2WW.

@LifeIsBusy we went for the embryo transfer! We're now in our first 2ww almost a year after we started 😂

ally99101 · 29/11/2020 10:56

@BananaHammock23 hey, we're doing unmedicated (for now).

That's good to know about having to wait, silly question but what is a natural bleed Vs unnatural? (That's probably not the right term Grin) is it something to do with medication?

ally99101 · 29/11/2020 10:57

@BananaHammock23 also best of luck with your 2ww!

LifeIsBusy · 29/11/2020 14:57

@BananaHammock9 you've made it to the 2ww! Wahoo! I think we all found this journey different to how we originally had planned it and covid definitely didn't help. How are you feeling?

Tasha1607 · 03/12/2020 11:24

@LifeIsBusy have you had your 20 week scan?
I've just had mine. Perfect little nugget growing away. And we managed to stick to it, and haven't found out the sex. How's the pregnancy going?

LifeIsBusy · 03/12/2020 11:57

@Tasha1607 Mine isn't until tomorrow afternoon but we're hopefully going to find out the sex.

Congrats on the growing nugget! Can you feel any movements yet? I've started to properly feel movements but my wife has missed all of them.

Tasha1607 · 03/12/2020 20:05

@LifeIsBusy we had one big one that my wife felt and this little nugget is a right wriggler.

How have you been with it all?
That's amazing. Are you hoping for a particular sex at all?

LifeIsBusy · 03/12/2020 21:48

@Tasha1607 I think we're both holding out for a boy but we will be happy regardless. Are you hoping for anything in particular?

I'm OK actually, I've got a bit of heart burn every now and again and often just feel shattered. How are you doing? Is it sinking in a little more yet? Have you started baby shopping?

Tasha1607 · 03/12/2020 22:45

@LifeIsBusy ah bless. We aren't bothered. We keep referring to bubs as a boy which we should stop doing lol. Because knowing us it'll be a girl and we will give the poor thing a complex. But we aren't bothered.

I've been better I've been in out of hospital and the docs with anaemia. And my irons levels being low. My doctors have been absolutely atrocious. Hence a hospital appointment.

But I think I'm okay now. On the straight and narrow for the second half of the pregnancy.

I don't think it will have sunk in until they are here. But yes nursery is coming along really well we doing it slowly. We got a Black Friday deal on a nursery set and travel set so couldn't resist. Got loads of clothes but wants more.

What about you? Is it sinking in for you guys yet?

GrettaGreen · 04/12/2020 15:40

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a while but not joined in before. Me and my wife have just started trying and in the 2 week window from a medicated iui cycle. The iui was Saturday past and we tested this morning at 6dpo. We got a bfp! A fine but properly visible line! Now we're worrying that because it's so early, it might be an ectopic. Does that seem likely or do we need to step away from Dr Google?

LifeIsBusy · 04/12/2020 20:22

@GrettaGreen welcome!! How have you found IUI so far? Did you take an HCG injection like ovritrel? Google is a wonderful tool but absolutely useless for parents.

@Tasha1607 all is fine with what they called a barbie (apparently its the best representation of a baby at 20 weeks) 😂 other than the fact we need to go back as not all the star jumps in the world could get barbie to move. Apparently sleeping with your feet over your head is the way to go but is definitely going to develop a complex if we keep calling him barbie.

That sounds pretty horrendous. Have you managed to get it sorted now? Is the drop in iron levels due to the crazy first few weeks with lack of food?

Not sure if it is sinking in yet.. I'm thinking no... 😂😂.

Aww brilliant! That's exciting especially when it all gets delivered! All the tiny clothes are amazing and so soft. What pram did you go for?

GrettaGreen · 04/12/2020 22:24

Thanks for answering Lifeisbusy. I've been following your journey for a while now and am so happy for you! IUI has been a whirwind so far! We were on the waiting list for a consent appointment 3 weeks ago and now first cycle done and gone already Shock.

Ovitrelle was taken last Friday evening and another dose was due today which wasn't taken until after we got the bfp so definitely isn't it that caused it. The line was visible without squinting so now we're swinging between hopeful it's multiples and terrified its an ectopic! I should add they were going to cancel the cycle last minute as it wasn't possible to see how many follicles were there due to a fibroid blocking the view. They seen one but had no way of knowing how many in total were lurking. They decided to go ahead after warning us there might be multiples but cautioned if it didn't work they wouldn't allow us another cycle like that - they'll either have to be unmedicated or the fibroid will need removed.

LifeIsBusy · 07/12/2020 09:42

@GrettaGreen I think you might find its still the injection that caused it. They literally take forever to leave your system as they effectively half in dose every 26 ish hours and once you compare that to the test levels on a pg test which if its something like First Response its at 6mIU/mL. I've seen people that literally test every day until it fades away. Probably not the cheapest of methods but probably one that provides a little more accuracy. I think most people get their bfp from earliest 9/10dp on TTC at home with no meds but that does mean there is plenty of HCG floaty around to help the implantation :).

Either way good luck on the rest of your week and try to stay as calm as possible... But I mean thats literally impossible.

I remember feeling totally out of control on our first IUI with my wife. It just seemed all so crazy from sperm being delivered from the EU, to everything signed then onto treatment. It never felt real but then again thats coming from the person 21 weeks pregnant and still in denial

ally99101 · 07/12/2020 18:41

@GrettaGreen welcome. I would agree with Lifeisbusy, I suspect your positive test would have been due to the trigger shot, I'm fairly certain it will have still been in your system at that point. Everything I've read seems to suggest at best it might be gone just over a week later but may still be there up to 12-13 days later. The wait is definitely a hard one! Good luck for when you do get your results!

LifeIsBusy · 07/12/2020 19:46

@ally99101 how did your bloods go last Friday?

The waiting is the worst as there is nothing you can do to make it go quicker.

LifeIsBusy · 07/12/2020 19:48

@BananaHammock23 how did everything go today? How are you guys feeling?

ally99101 · 07/12/2020 20:41

@LifeIsBusy the waiting was pretty bad. I found the first week not too bad and then as we approached Friday I was just so impatient. I held out until the Thursday morning before I tested which I think was pretty decent, very very faint positive then same on Friday but when bloods came back we were told we weren't pregnant so we're straight into round 2 this month, period came on Saturday like clockwork which was a bit of a relief as it meant we've just been able to squeeze in round 2 this month. With the christmas closure we were told I'd have to bleed by Sunday at the latest to have IUI this month with the lab closure etc so glad it came on Saturday (and not before as I think that's probably the worse way to find out you're not pregnant!)

I've also booked a review chat with the doctor, not sure they'll have much to report back but I want to ask about the timing as I was a bit worried our timing wasn't right (although I totally appreciate also that they're the professionals). But the more I thought about it, having the trigger at 6pm on the Wednesday and then the iui on Thursday morning at 11am felt too quick. I was reading that thawed sperm only survives 12-24 hours but with the trigger only being 6pm the night before, I can't help feel that there's a good chance the sperm were all gone by the time I would have ovulated if I ovulated on the later end of the 24-48 hours after the trigger. I may be missing something, maybe my Wednesday bloods showed that I was closer to ovulation than I thought but I'll feel better to ask!!

Can I ask what your timing was like between trigger, IUI etc.

Hope you're doing good and the pregnancy is going well!

LifeIsBusy · 07/12/2020 22:33

@ally99101 There is nothing worse when everything else is out of your control. That must have been quite difficult for you both especially getting a faint positive then to be confirmed it didn't take. How are you both coping? It will however provide additional insight to the clinic and with IUI its more about the number of times you try rather than one go.

I remember those early rounds at GCRM with my wife. Her period always arrived the day before she went in to get her bloods the day after knowing that it hadn't taken. It was the one thing we liked more about the NHS as they just take your word for it rather than bringing you back in for blood tests.

For both my pregnancies I didn't take a trigger shot. My first was through the NHS and they don't offer any form of medication. My bloods came back on the Friday stating I wasn't quite ready to ovulate but they completed the IUI anyways as they don't do it over the weekend. I was then brought back in on the monday to make sure I had ovulated and if I hadn't they would do the IUI again. Then this time I had the trigger shot at home but when the clinic called they said my body was naturally ovulating so I didn't need to take it and the IUI was performed the next lunch time. I genuinely thought it had been missed given the dates but apparently not.

My wife used to take the trigger shot the night before, always after work after we got home and IUI was done the next lunch time. Can't quite store needles in the work fridge.

GrettaGreen · 08/12/2020 13:14

Thanks for being so welcoming everybody. We didn't even realise the Ovitrelle would stay in her system so long! It's definitely a steep learning curve. I suppose all we can do now is sit on our hands and wait - and try not to be too excited that DW randomly woke in the middle of the night to be sick! When people say the 2ww is brutal, you don't really get it until you're there yourself!

LifeIsBusy · 08/12/2020 15:53

@GrettaGreen There literally is nothing worse than sitting waiting for the 2 weeks to go by thinking you either shouldn't get your hopes up vs thinking you should because you should think positively. I think thats why so many of us cling to all the myths around eating pineapple, staying in specific positions, eating the right things ect when in reality I don't think much of it makes a load of difference.

ally99101 · 08/12/2020 16:59

Thanks @LifeIsBusy that's really helpful as always!!

We tried really hard to not get our hopes up too much with the first go and we did well I think. Even after the 2 faint positives I was still telling myself that it could still be a bit of the trigger lurking from the top up shot 6days after the IUI but I won't lie, it did make me think more that it might be good news, even just a tiny bit. So when we got the call on Friday it was disappointing but we had prepared ourselves well for bad news so we were ok actually and being able to go straight into round 2 means we're straight on to thinking about that now.

No idea where the faint positives came from as the blood test came back with hvg of 4, I really have no idea what that even means but my guess is obviously it's so low it's not pregnancy but is it just that some people have a small amount of HCG in their blood and that's what that was or was it maybe that the egg fertilized and just didn't stick? Who knows, Mondays call with the doctor may shed some more light.

LifeIsBusy · 08/12/2020 21:10

@ally99101 maybe you're just one of these people that carry hcg naturally? With our first I tried to convince my wife that I was pregnant by making her pee on a stick.... That didn't go very well when it came back positive. It doesn't help when first response picks up from 6 which is practically nothing.

The first I reckon is the hardest as there is so much hope but at least you don't need to miss a cycle due to Christmas and you guys are one step closer to obtaining the goal.

BananaHammock23 · 08/12/2020 21:54

Hey all. Just wanted to pop back on to the thread where it all started to say I got my BFP on Saturday after our first round of IVF. IUI obviously wasn't meant to be for us!

Had my bloods done on Monday and confirmed this morning. Going for another beta to check hcg is going up tomorrow as I can't deal with any more heartache!

Hope you're all doing well! X
