Anyone starting egg donation July/August?

Leala20 · 28/06/2020 08:48

We maybe starting our egg donation treatment (first time) July/August and I thought maybe there’s anyone here that would like to join me. Ive found this forum very useful and supportive and thought I would reach out as I cannot believe it is so soon and getting a bit nervous. We had a year of rollercoaster of trying for many years to being finally told my amh is too low and I wouldn’t qualify for IVF. We did our research and found DCN very useful and are really excited about it.

Had my scan and as expected I had miscarried but the meds had masked it.

So.... So far we have a 0% success rate on this thread. Does anyone else find this concerning?

Sunbird24 · 24/09/2020 20:13

So sorry @Cleozeta.
I’m sure we’ll get a success story soon, and then they’ll all come along at once like buses...

tikha · 24/09/2020 20:38

@Cleozeta sorry to hear about this. Its tough and raw. You are right about the no success but its a matter of chance sometimes. We are a very small sample size. Take care.

Cleozeta · 25/09/2020 06:59

It would be lovely to see a success soon!
Anyone due to start treatment again this month?
I've been told I'll have to have a natural cycle before starting again, which is a pain in the arse as there's no guarantee I'll actually ovulate, meaning cycle could be long and arduous. Also concerned as they couldn't find my overies at the scan which has never happened before. I hope they haven't shrivelled up and died already.

tikha · 25/09/2020 11:18

@Cleozeta unfortunately am probably going to be waiting a while. Only just did the mva and still have positive pregnancy tests. Have gotten used to waiting I guess

Leala20 · 25/09/2020 14:12

@Cleozeta I am so sorry for your loss. This must be heartbreaking. I hope you take time to recover.
We will get there one day as there’s many that are successful we just need more time I guess. I am waiting for my cycle to start and then will have a scan and blood test done again to see if my levels are correct- hope estrogen has dropped by the then and this would be my first milestone. I will need to cherish each step as I was thinking naively far too ahead and didn’t realise that it’s such a complex process to get it right. There’s only this much we can do is wait and embrace it. You know yourself you’ve done your best so whatever happens it’s outside of your control.

Hi....
I’ve been stalking this thread for a while....
I’ve been with you all for your ups and downs but just wanted to share my story so far.
Some of you know part of my story from other threads.
I have had 4 rounds of egg collections.
Miscarried two sets of twins and one single baby just before Christmas.
My first set of twins were due on Christmas Day last year.
I live from round of ivf to the next.
However, im knackered, my ovaries are too.
My last round of ivf yielded no eggs at collection. So with great sadness I embarked on egg donor search. Our first search of the egg bank left me hollow. No profile grabbed me.... until my clinic started to chase me as they needed the eggs ordering or this round wouldn’t go ahead.
So.... I ticked the donor dating boxes.... and one match came up. I was blown away by the similarities between me and the donor.
It was like receiving an electric shock. I’m so happy this is our donor. I’d love to meet her.
I have my final scan on Tuesday.... then they decide when the eggs can be thawed.... we paid for 6 but got 8....
Scary few weeks ahead....

Russkispy · 26/09/2020 07:33

@Cleozeta I'm so sorry to read your news. Sending you big hugs x

@Pleaseletitbeme I remember you from other threads and your losses. So sorry! Welcome to DE journey. After all my losses last year and due to my age we started DE process and after the 2nd transfer I'm now 34 weeks.

I'm still following this thread and rooting for everyone 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Cleozeta · 26/09/2020 07:48

@tikha how come you are still getting positive tests? Do you know what is going on?

@Leala20 good luck with your rests, I hope the levels have dropped and you can start your cycle. Such a stressful time.

@pleaseletitbeme sounds like you've had a really tough time. Good luck with donor eggs, fingers crossed this can be the solution for you. Sounds like you have found a great match

@russkispy not long to go for you, so pleased you have a success story!

I have my follow up meeting next Friday. So hoping to start again next cycle. My next worry and stress will be getting through this next natural cycle. They are unpredictable and I really don't want to end up in a long drawn out useless cycle waiting. I hope they have some kind of solution if my natural cycle drags on.
I have worked out that in the last 3 years I have been pregnant for just over 1 year of that, with nothing to show for it. Fed up now!

tikha · 26/09/2020 12:57

@Pleaseletitbeme welcome and its nice to have finally found a donor that you would like to meet. I understand that feeling well, and am glad you could make this leap after all the losses you have been through.

@Leala20 hope things start moving again soon for you. Do you think it will be different if I move all my scans etc to harley street instead of bridge as its too far for me.

@Cleozeta hope you are doing ok.. not sure how it works if natural cycles are irregular. Unfortunately for me, my miscarriage didnt progress with medical management so had to undergo an MVA at 10th week.. they mentioned that the bhcg can take almost 3 weeks to settle and a cycle to restart could be something like 6 weeks. I need that time out anyway I think.
@Russkispy thanks for keeping us updated. almost there now :)
@Sunbird24 how is it going with meds?

Hope the weekend is ok for everyone.

tikha · 26/09/2020 15:35

@Pingupp how is the wait coming along?
@Parisinthesummer when do you plan to do your next transfer? any luck with finding further info about protocol?

Cleozeta · 26/09/2020 19:37

@tikha that sounds really shit. Like it isn't bad enough you have to go through that too, and all the waiting. Hope you are ok.
I really can't wait to start the next cycle. I have no patience whatsoever. And now also worrying about a 2nd lockdown putting a stop to things!

Leala20 · 27/09/2020 08:35

@Pleaseletitbeme welcome and congratulations on your milestone and now look forward to next steps. Are you planning starting next cycle as well?
@tikha you have been through a lot I hope now it feels you’re moving forward and hope it all settles sooner. I only use Harley Street and think it should be the same. I have met a few nurses already as it depends which room you go to when you have appointment and they all seem efficient and caring so the system they have works I guess. What I miss is that you don’t have a contact to your consultant (except for an appointment) in case you need anything all goes via nurses which is fine but you know only the consultant really knows your case. Not sure if that’s the norm I guess?
@ksusha20 has your AF arrived?
@Cleozeta what has helped me in the wait it to think I am closer today than yesterday so each day is a day forward. I m still not sure this will be possible this coming cycle so need to remind myself to have low expectations I guess.

Hi Everyone, I took a break from here as I needed to switch off after our BFN at the start of the month, feel more positive now.

@Cleozeta I am so sorry to hear your news hope you are doing ok

@tikha thx for asking. So I am going to go again at the end of October (pandemic permitting). When I had my debrief after the last round they said the issue was most likely with the embryo and it was just 'bad luck' that it didn't work (nice :/ ) Tomorrow I am going to do a full blood test including a lot for Immu including tyroid, NK and Antiorps. Will also check Vitamin D, tsh etc. I need to do my 1st scan week of 6th Oct.

@Cleozeta might be interesting to you as I saw you need to get a period to start. I am not sure why but I presumed that I would need to start the pill again to get a bleed and then I could start. But my clinic told me Friday that this is not the case and I can just get right back to doing scans and progesterone etc. I have premature ovar failure and don't produce anthing. So she said because of this it is not necessary to have a bleed. Couldn't believe it!

Cleozeta · 27/09/2020 14:33

@Leala20 I have the same at my clinic, we have appointments with the consultant but everything else seems to be done through the nurses.

@Parisinthesummer that is interesting that they can just go ahead. I guess my issue is unpredictability. If you know you will definitely not have a 'cycle' you can work with that, and if you know you are going to have a cycle you can work with the timing of that, but in the unknown I guess I'll have to just wait it out until I know where the cycle is or isn't going. Just a shame I can't go straight into another round without all the faffing about!

That is interesting they think it was just bad luck, I guess after just one attempt it's hard to know and they just have to assume all ok unless they find evidence otherwise. Has anyone else been given a reason for their non succeses? I must admit I do find it odd that we've all been unsuccessful, one of us needs to have success soon based on stats!

I'll be having my follow up consultation on Friday, it will be interesting to hear if they think there is any reason for the mc.

Has anyone else had suggestions of changes to their 2nd cycle yet? Or are you just trying same again with meds etc?

tikha · 27/09/2020 20:08

@Cleozeta am a bit worried about the lockdown as well.. Might get called up to assist with the covid surge rota again. I think this time I will respectfully decline unless the IVF clinic stop their work

I am speaking to my consultant via phone tomorrow. Just hoping that I can get some answers but unlikely. I guess I can ask to do tests etc like @Parisinthesummer is having

@Leala20 will ask to be moved to harley street then. It just so much easier for me.

Going back to work full time tomorrow and not looking forward to it.

Cleozeta · 27/09/2020 21:56

@tikha I really hope the clinics don't close again! I really don't think the government can do that again, not for everything, it caused so much damage the first time, they couldn't possibly. So worried though!!
That would be a total nightmare in so many ways.

Let us know what your clinic says tomorrow, hopefully they will have some answers or suggestions moving forwards.

I wonder if we will all be moving into round 2 around the same time? Successes all round perhaps?!

tikha · 29/09/2020 21:18

@Cleozeta so the consultant said to me that I would have to wait one natural cycle before I go through with FET. That would be around November as it is probably end of October potentially or mid October when my AF arrives..unless it decides to show up earlier but post miscarriage it takes a while for HCG to come down.. ah well its not like we are used to waiting are we..

Cleozeta · 29/09/2020 22:37

@tikha sounds similar to me. Will you be having the same meds etc for the next round or have they suggested anything different?

Pingupp · 30/09/2020 11:15

@tikha it's driving me mad!!
Constantly checking my emails.
We managed to get a week away in Turkey so that took my mind off it but now back and baby baby baby is on the brain ! Not helping that one of my closest friends is due next month. So happy for her but you know..... x

Hopeandlight · 30/09/2020 14:51

Hi all

Completely new to mumsnet but have been looking at posts and wondered whether anyone could give me some advice...I've never posted before...

Me, 43, I've been pregnant 4 times; once naturally ended in miscarriage, 2nd successful ivf now have daughter, 3rd icsi ended in miscarriage, 4th icsi ended in chemical pregnancy and most recent cycle got a BFN. No issues with my partner's sperm. Been told due to my age and my pregnancy loss history I could continue and go through another cycle with my own eggs but the chances of success are only 8-10%.

It seems although my eggs are trying very hard it may be time to consider what I thought I'd never consider .... donor eggs.

I've spoken to my UK clinic and the costs here for fresh donor egg seem eye watering (although the cost of what we've spent on fertility treatment over the years is eye watering anyway.) I also feel uncomfortable in that you aren't allowed to see a profile photo of your donor ... I understand the UK regulations but that doesn't sit easy with me.

I'm wondering whether we could use a country (in the EU or US?) who have egg donor banks who do provide profile photos of your egg donor and then ship over the frozen eggs to my UK clinic?

(I'm sure like many of you we were also postponed (just before transfer) on one of my cycles this year due to covid, so it's been a thoroughly grim year!)

Any advice / people that have done this / had success would be great and really helpful to hear.

Thank you!!!

Pleaseletitbeme · 01/10/2020 09:29

Hope everyone is ok?
Today my donor eggs are defrosted and my OH is “doing his bit”
Big day tomorrow when we find out how many have fertilised.

Cleozeta · 01/10/2020 10:01

@hopeandlight wow your % of 8-10 is quite good for 43, I was given 1-2% with OE and I'm 43 too, had a natural pregnancy recently that ended in stillbirth at 33 weeks over lockdown.
DE % is much much higher, and MC chance much lower, although I still managed one after my last transfer in August.
Fresh DE here is expensive and timely. We opted for frozen, as its a much cheaper process, much quicker (instant if they already have a match for you in the donor bank) and statistically chances are not hugely different. You are right that we are not allowed to see pictures, but you will receive all basic details of hair & eye colour etc, although yes there is danger of huge nose / wonky teeth / boggly eyes etc.
I'm not sure about choosing the donor elsewhere and doing process here. I've not heard of that.

@Pleaseletitbeme good luck!! How many eggs do you have defrosting?

Pleaseletitbeme · 01/10/2020 10:16

Cleozeta..... boggly eyes.... hahaha that made me laugh.....
I so hope things are better for you next time.

So we bought 6 eggs but got 8....
I feel so positive..... trying not to let the negativity of the previous failures/pain/distress creep in.....

Cleozeta · 01/10/2020 11:40

@Pleaseletitbeme 8 eggs is great! Hopefully they all defrost nicely for you and fertilise. Please keep us updated! I quite enjoyed the daily updates from the clinic with how they were all doing.
Keeping positive is the best thing. Even when we have had difficulties in the past, this is different. Even, dare I say it, exciting....
