At Home Insemination - Buddies?

H8624 · 15/02/2020 17:58

For several reasons hubby and I are going down the route of at home insemination. It can be quite a lonely process I think - does anyone want to join me and we can go through it together/share tips etc?

Bit of background - we've tried for 2 months now both unsuccessful. I'm using clearblue ovulation detector to get my peak, and we've been doing the insemination every day from when I get my flashing smiley to the day after the peak, give or take the odd day! Using 10ml syringes and laying down afterwards for 20-30 mins.

Finding the 2ww a real struggle, and my heart breaks every time AF comes! I know it's only been 2 cycles and could take a lot longer so need to be patient! Altho feel like everyone around me is having babies which doesn't help!

Anyway sorry for going on - anyone want to join and share their experiences/tips? Need some motivation and hope!

Wow @H8624 that's so crazy that you only have 9 weeks to go. I remember chatting with you, I think it was after your fourth cycle, and AF had just arrived and you were so down that this was never going to work and now here you are. I'm so happy for you.

That's lovely @ChunkyButFunky87 and hopefully that little hat will be enough of a signal to the universe that this little bean needs to stick around. Yes, that would be lovely for you to be able to take you daughter to school and pick her up when she starts. I was really hoping I would be successful this month and also be due in July as I'm a July baby and hoped we would be able to share our birthday month, especially as I turn the big 4-0 next year. Today is CD21 and still no positive OPK in fact they're so faint it's barely there. I'm still using OvuSense so I know I haven't ovulated and I'm starting to think maybe I'm not going to despite taking the soy isoflavones. Maybe I need to take a higher dose and earlier next cycle. I'm still going to keep using the OPK's as I could just ovulate late.

@ChunkyButFunky87 that’s a lovely idea to get little bean something.

@Waiting2BAMummy good luck in getting a positive soon.

@Supermathsdoc how are you getting on?

I’m currently in the two week wait so trying not to obsess too much. I swing between being convinced this is the month and thinking it definitely isn’t.

Supermathsdoc · 02/11/2020 12:05

@overlyanxious I've left the ball in my donors court as I don't want to pressure him to come round if he's not comfortable. Im currently waiting to ovulate and I do usually feel hopeful at this point!

Yes I am the same as you and switch between being certain I'm pregnant and equally certain it will never happen for me. I find the whole thing very consuming I really wish I could throw myself into something else so that I didnt feel like i was wishing my life away quite so much ...

Overlyanxious · 02/11/2020 12:47

@Supermathsdoc yes I hate how consuming it is. I think Covid definitely makes it worse as we can’t keep busy seeing friends or planning holidays etc. I’ve been trying to do some craft things, which I find do help me not think about it for at least a little bit.

Waiting2BAMummy · 02/11/2020 14:01

I was exactly the same @Overlyanxious but after 2 years and one chemical pregnancy I try not to think anything now. Fingers crossed for you this month.

I wish there was just some way to know you’ve been successful right at that moment.

I hope your donor is still happy to help @Supermathsdoc

Well when I’m getting brown spotting now do I think the witch is parking her broom....

Coolhand2 · 03/11/2020 18:00

Hi ladies,
@ChunkyButFunky87, congratulations 🎉 I am so excited for you. Nice to see great news. Enjoy every moment.
@H8624, I can't believe you have only 9wks to go, I remember reading your post when you got your positive. Did you find out the sex?

I am CD18 today, Ava predicted O for CD17 but today it says I haven't ovulated yet, but premom pushed my O back to CD14 and we managed to SI CD12,15,17, I think I might have O early like premom says, I remember getting backache so early in my cycle and I just ignored it. I will go with premom and assume I am 4dpo today. Hoping for the best.

Waiting2BAMummy · 03/11/2020 18:07

Fingers crossed for you @Coolhand2

Overlyanxious · 03/11/2020 22:03

@Coolhand2 fingers crossed for you. I’m a 3/4 dpo

Coolhand2 · 04/11/2020 05:33

Thanks ladies, praying for the same for you🥰

Overlyanxious · 04/11/2020 06:01

@Coolhand2 fingers crossed for you. I’m a 3/4 dpo

Supermathsdoc · 05/11/2020 07:16

I’ve had a chat with my donor and he doesn’t feel comfortable coming into our home because of lockdown. He wants to donate at his house and then drop the sample off.

He lives 20 minutes away and says that when they do semen analysis they leave the sample standing for 30 mins first so this should be fine.

Usually he comes round, I wait 10 minutes for it to liquify and then inseminate straight away.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of leaving it 30mins?

Thanks

H8624 · 05/11/2020 08:10

@Coolhand2 yes I did I'm having a boy 😊.

@ChunkyButFunky87 how are you feeling at the moment? Any symptoms started yet? Hope you have a smooth first trimester and don't suffer too much morning sickness!

@Supermathsdoc I don't know about the timings sorry. I used to wait about 10 mins too. I never used a donor but personally if that was the only way to get in an attempt this month I'd probably give it a try - nothing to lose and you never know it could turn out to be your lucky month! But depends how comfortable you are with it as well as your donor during lockdown.

I'm good thanks @H8624 time is just going by soooooooooo slowly lol

5 weeks tomorrow, I just want to get scanned but told myself wait til 8 weeks

Odd bit of nausea here and there but nothing major x

Overlyanxious · 05/11/2020 11:52

@Supermathsdoc unfortunately I don’t know about the 30mins - but it feels close enough to the 20 minutes you are told you may need to wait for it to liquify. Definitely think it’s worth a go.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 05/11/2020 12:05

If sperm can live for up to 5 days inside, surely 30 mins in an airtight container should be ok?!

Busybee143 · 05/11/2020 12:32

@Supermathsdoc you need to keep it at body temperature really if it's out for that long. I think it will be ok and think you should deffo give it a go. Good luck.
@ChunkyButFunky87 deffo hold on till 8 weeks for your own sanity 😂

ChunkyButFunky87 · 07/11/2020 14:38

Hey ladies,

How's it going? Redid a clearblue today, wanted to see progress and have gone from 1-2 to 2-3, I have one test left to hopefully get 3+

Busybee143 · 07/11/2020 14:53

Your progress looks good!
All good here, just waiting for my gender scan on Thursday, can't wait, I'm actually excited!!

Waiting2BAMummy · 07/11/2020 15:08

That’s great @ChunkyButFunky87 so happy for you.

Pooh how is exciting @Busybee143 I know I wouldn’t be able to not find out even waiting for the 20 week scan will drive me crazy. I have found a website that does some test from 8 weeks and all the reviews say it was spot on, not that I’m impatient 😂😂

Waiting2BAMummy · 07/11/2020 15:34

FRER buy one get one 50% so 4 tests are £15.73

ChunkyButFunky87 · 07/11/2020 19:27

Aww any inkling @Busybee143 ?!

That's a good price @Waiting2BAMummy I have some on order funnily just taking ages to arrive!

I've booked an early scan now for 27th when I should be 8 weeks, worried with my 12 weeks falling on Xmas day I might end up getting a later scan, thinking they might push me til new year so just incase!

Busybee143 · 07/11/2020 20:10

@ChunkyButFunky87 that's lovely timing for Christmas!!
I'm saying boy but wifey is saying girl haha.
I managed to run a 5k today for the first time this pregnancy too!!

Coolhand2 · 08/11/2020 21:08

@H8624, so cool you are having a boy😍 you are in the home stretch now, almost there.

@ChunkyButFunky87, wow those are clear positives, I am so excited for you, hope you have a smooth first trimester 😍
@Waiting2BAMummy, that's a good deal on the free, they are usually so expensive. Hope you stocked up.
@Busybee143, big up to you for running 5k, I miss running, I just need to buy runners, lately I have been skipping rope but I don't seem to be losing my belly with it like with running few mths back.

I am 5dpo today, premom adjusted itself again and said o was cd18, now all my apps have aligned, all say 5dpo. So I still have a long ways in this tww. I am trying to keep myself busy, going for walks with the kids while the weather is nice.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 10/11/2020 17:44

Thanks @Coolhand, the obsession is still here, I forgot I ordered some more FRER about 2 weeks ago but delayed arrival! Loving a clear line though.

How are you all doing ladies?

At Home Insemination - Buddies?
Waiting2BAMummy · 10/11/2020 17:51

That’s an amazing line @ChunkyButFunky87, even stealing dye from the control line!! How are your parents doing?

I feel very much like AF is going to land wish she would just get on with it. One of the women at work announced yesterday she is going to be a nan again as her daughter (who also used to work here) is 14 weeks pregnant with her second. Her son just turned 2 so I’ve been trying since he was born, so fed up.
