lol MP.

Yes I see your point about testosterone, but there was a general suggestion here that real men use porn, as opposed to the poor, controlled, wimpy types who are dying to have a look but live with overbearing women who won't let them have a gander.

I don't see that at all. Like I said, there's something terribly lonely and sad about porn.

cheeset · 02/10/2007 11:21

I agree with DrNortherner,re the visual thing. I think men are very simple creatures(not simple as in stupid) but they are not too complicated to work out.

They act on instinct, if a guy feels sexy and if they have a porno mag or look at images then so what? satisfying their urge.

I'm sure some people will understand me when I say you can't be bothered to have sex sometimes, too knackered, too late, need a shower, can't be bothered la,la la. Porn for a man may come in useful in this situation?

Some me do, some men dont.

Men looking at porn, can't see what the big deal is?

Fair play to them, it's one area in their life they dont have to compromise.

ahundredtimes · 02/10/2007 11:27

I think the suggestion that men are simple, instinctive creatures is a bit demeaning isn't it?

Oh no, hang on, perhaps then men that use porn are simple and instinctive, and those that don't, aren't.

That sounds about right to me.

cheeset · 02/10/2007 11:45

ahundredtimes, maybe I didn't make myself clear when I said men are simple(not stupid). I will try and explain what I mean.

IMO,men don't tend to analise everything like women do, you can see this first hand when you scan through the threads on MN. Women arguing and picking through every detail of people opinions. When you see a man post, you can really see short, sharpe clarity in their opinion.

Do you object to porn then?

DrNortherner · 02/10/2007 12:21

This definatley divides us doesn't it?

Men who do and men who don't
Women who don't mind and women who would create holy hell

Different strokes for different folks me thinks.

UnquietDad · 02/10/2007 12:46

hur hur hur

she said "strokes"

hur hur hur

I'm sorry, for a moment there I turned into Beavis and Butthead. I do apologise.

EricL · 02/10/2007 12:53

I guess i don't object to it - it might not be for me but i wouldn't dislike someone or think they were sad if i found a porn stash.

I also agree with what you ladies are saying about us guys - our brains work in a completely different manner in most things really don't they? That's what makes the world go round.

A good example is how i can send a series of texts to the missus when she is at work creating some crazy sexual scenario for her all day so she comes home with that look on her face i know i am definately in there.

She just sends me one text on her way home saying she hasn't got any pants on and i get a boner the size of Bournemouth...........

ahundredtimes · 02/10/2007 12:54

Ah yes, DrN wise words indeed. Also separate category of women who wouldn't give merry hell, but would be filled with a terrible sense of sadness and pity.

That'd be me. Obviously.

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 02/10/2007 13:17

Can I add my name to the list of "MNers With Husbands Who Do Not Get Their Jollies From Porn, Yet Are Neither Half-Quiche Nor In Any Way Similar To That Faun Out Of Narnia"?

You couldn't get DH interested in porn if you tried. He spends hours drooling over magazines full of bikes and gets positively excited at the sight of some moulded carbon fibre but try and show him a naked beauty in a glossy magazine and his eyes glaze over with boredom.

He used to run a pub and one of his barmaids did some glamour work on the side, brought in the pictures to show everybody and he was ridiculed ever after for refusing to look at them.

His friends watch porn and if he ever crashes at theirs while it's on he goes to bed early- is teased relentlessly for it.

He just has Other Interests, finds it tedious and is morally opposed. He is still visually stimulated, can't load the washing machine without him sidling over and trying to help.

ruty · 02/10/2007 13:25

i made dh get some porn at a petrol station in the Czech Republic once. He was cringing with embarrassment. We watched it together to satisfy my curiosity with a mixture of repulsion [lots of spitting going on] and pissing ourselves laughing. He watched quite a bit in adolescence. But can't take it seriously now. Does that mean he has a low testosterone level then?

EricL · 02/10/2007 13:30

It's so ridiculous sometimes that it is just funny. Me and the missus got a porn film once cos she had never seen one and instead of getting turned on we were in fits of laughter instead.

(Still had a great time though )

NotAnOtter · 02/10/2007 17:34

its an emotive subject this one
fwiw dp has a high sperm count he still does not look at porn

OrmIrian · 02/10/2007 17:43

I don't actually know if my DH does. He doesn't do it in front of me and I've never found a stash of wank mags. He is totally incapable of accessing anything on the internet - usually ends up swearing and yelling for me to come and help

However if he came across some (so to speak) I don't suppose he'd run away screaming. I suppose if the question is whether it's a huge part of his life then the answer is no. If they question is does he object to it morally or find it not a turn-on, the answer would also be no.

pigleto · 02/10/2007 18:12

I have not met many men who don't look at porn. I suppose different things turn people on. I am rather sceptical about the people who claim not to look at porn through moral conviction (I suspect that they just don't like it but do not want to be likened to quiche), but then I may be being overly cynical.

lou33 · 02/10/2007 19:06

i guess my local vicar doesn'y look at porn

i just saw him as i was driving past, i shuld have stopped and asked him really

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2007 19:08

lol

iota · 02/10/2007 19:08

my dh seems to be more into Autocar and Top Gear mags....

at least those are the ones that he leaves lying around

lou33 · 02/10/2007 19:08

this thread honestly crossed my mind when i saw him

pneumalifenewname · 02/10/2007 21:15

I'd have thought vicars have an enhanced need for porn - all that suppressed stuff, being all non-sexual, not flirting like the rest of us

ruty · 02/10/2007 21:30

vicars flirt all the time! And the ones who can get married can have just as healthy private lives as the rest of us.

DaDaDa · 02/10/2007 21:41

What about Nuns? Do they have dirty habits?

I'll get me coat.

pneumalifenewname · 02/10/2007 22:01

I didn't think vicars flirted, same as teachers don't or shouldn't

ruty · 03/10/2007 08:46

teachers don't because their pupils are generally underage. Have you never had a university lecturer flirt? Anyway I'm talking about harmless flirting, not trying to get you into bed flirting.

Nun pornography. Now there may be a market there....

UnquietDad · 03/10/2007 09:23

ruty - they're not called university lecherers for nothing!

nun porn - don't worry, it's been done... so I've been told...

lou33 · 03/10/2007 11:50

my vicar looking at porn.....
