The rolling Football thread (2012-2013)

The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

Its Derby day this weekend for the Pars-woohoo! Play Raith tomorrow-looking forward to it-probably not the score though! We have managed to grind our wins out so far, but tomorrows game will probably show how much progress has been made since the terrible friendly match that was endured mid July against East Fife-not pretty!
Hi lara just replied to your post on the other footie thread, then saw you were here too!

Northern Exile, which clubs have Richard Wright been to since he left Arsenal all those years ago?

Garcia is a good move for us. Smile

If I was a Liverpool or Arsenal fan, I would be very concerned about the lack of signings - especially Liverpool, so much is resting on Suarez.

I reckon Owen will go there - pay as you play as he is a free agent now.

I'm fascinated by Michael Owen's career. The Guardian basically reckons he's spent, he doesn't love football but does love his horses, and yet he wants to maintain the illusion that he's a top footballer for a little bit longer.

I can't help thinking he's got one more brilliant moment in him. Remember his winning goal in the Manchester Derby, in Fergie-time?

1981- come on ye raith!!! And yes wright Is a contender for most random signing of the year

Scotslass- I said exactly the same that Owen would end up back at pool but my Liverpool supporting husband was having none of that. They definitely need someone though.. Were very silly to lose out on Dempsey

With regard to Richard Wright I don't know what we want him for but dh pointed out it may be a step in to a more coaching based role which would make sense I guess. Wasn't he at Preston last? You've got to be able to see the appeal of being involved at city at the moment if it could lead to something when he finishes playing. Joe Hart is one fantastic keeper though and anyone else there is surely just spare meat.

Could someone remind me (I genuinely can't remember) why the hell Spurs sacked Harry Redknapp and replaced him with AVB?

'Arry got them to their highest position and best style in years.

BB- god only knows.
Think he fell out of favour with the whole England manager nonsense

my OH supports spurs and he reckons its down to the way they played after new year-roughly around the time there was all the speculation about the england job. i couldnt quite understand it either-i mean they still finished in a good position and they have european football too, but I guess when you play well at the start at of the season you hope that you can carry that through right to the end. its not inconceivable that they may have challenged for the title (his words not mine!) had Redknapp kept his eye on the ball.

It was a shame he was sacked I think. And can't imagine AVB being hugely successful.

I will always love Harry redknapp simply for the fact he produced Jamie ... Blush

BelfastBloke · 01/09/2012 19:53

And yet I love Harry because of his style of play; and hate him for producing Jamie.

What a waste of oxygen Jamie Redknapp is. See him commentating next to Gary Neville and one is embarassed at what an moron Jamie is.

Anyway... Thoughts on tomorrows games?

Oh, the goals will eventually come for Arsenal. But we could use them arriving tomorrow! The strikers we've bought are clearly quality. But Pires, Henry, and Bergkamp all took ages to adjust to the Premiership. So I've learned to give new players time.

Suarez will find it difficult to score against the Bould-organised new-look Arsenal defence. But will the Liverpool new boys bed in immediately?

Should be an interesting game. Joe Allen looks good for Liverpool, not convinced about borini yet. I predict a Liverpool 1-0 win, only cause they tend to do well against the 'big' teams, (then lose to 'small' teams)

Can't imagine Southampton giving too much challenge to us (united) but we really need to start smacking the goals in. Don't think we have looked convincing at all the first couple games

I was willing Southampton on, to hold their own against Man U. But I just knew it wasn't to be. It was 2-1 at 85 minutes or so, but I just KNEW that it would not remain so. What I did NOT 'knew' was that it would be RvP who would hatrick.

AVB is such a knob. Bale and Lennon kicking in balls to Defoe , who is minute. what a joke.
Harry's commentary on MoD was meek , mild and boring.
What a signing Dempsey is. We could have paid 22 million for a striker who was a risk, who had never played in the premier league. Instead we got a re-known striker, of like 21 goals or so, for £6m BARGAIN.

That still doesn't help us. Because AVB is still a twat. And thus we are doomed.

laracroft2001 · 03/09/2012 08:09

Dempsey is a great signing for spurs, Liverpool were silly to lose him for the sake of a mere £1million.

Southampton done well, though they have yet to score any points in the league, they have certainly not been shameful in performance and attitude.

I read rumours yesterday about Harry being lined up for Southampton managers job!

Oblomov, for the first time since I saw it unfold magically live in front of me, I've been re-watching Arsenal's home game against 5pur2 last season.

Can't quite remember the score against 5pur2.

But my point is, that match demonstrates that it's darkest just before the dawn.

Belfast, I know you will never let me live that down, 5-2, sorry, what was the score again?
But are you just taking the piss out of Me, in my' hour-of-knober-AVB-need', or are you trying to be of some comfort? Wink
