The rolling Football thread (2012-2013)

The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

Arsenal are being sponsored buy easyjet next season. They will take you to any destination in Europe and have you back by the cheapest and quickest route.

Man U are cutting the price of season tickets for next season. On the basis that games will be a little shorter in future.

Cathy to Alex:" No dear. Eggs take 3 mins to boil. No need for the extra 5 mins."

OK... the last day... 36 goals... 5-5 who?d a thought!... should be a great MOTD later

These harvested from the web and re-posted here, hoping you associate me with ?clever and witty? rather that ?copy and paste?.

What is a Tottenham fans favourite quote?
"There's always next year."

So, Spurs new kit sponsor is NEXT.
Probably because there's always next time for them.

So many trophy winning managers have been sacked this season..
It seems the only way to keep your job in football is by managing Arsenal.

One Direction are to play at Wembley next year.
Hodgson says he expects a tight game but they will have to be a bit more careful at the back.

Arsene Wenger has guaranteed Arsenal will make it to Wembley next year.
He has bought the players tickets to the One Direction concert.

After signing a one year contract with Chelsea, Frank Lampard has said he is looking forward to working with the next 3 or 4 Chelsea managers.

An ITV reporter asked Rafa Benitez what he thought he'd be taking away from the Europa league victory.
P45 Rafa, a P45.

I really don't care for ITV football coverage!
I'll tell you my reasons right after the break.

Nice gesture from Everton today.
Letting Moyes take all the trophies he won with him.

Howard Webb is said to be disappointed not to have been mentioned in Fergie's speech.
"After all I've done for him and this club" sobbed an emotional Webb.

I asked Alex Ferguson if he had any plans for his retirement.
"I quite fancy opening a 24hr.6min. garage." He said.

Alex Ferguson is to collaborate with Stephen Hawking on a rewrite of "A brief history of time", after convincing him that the big bang should actually have started 5 minutes later.

Man Utd's Chairman has already received a CV for Alex Ferguson's job.
He has ignored it because it looked like it was written by a 4yr old......
That's Harry Rednapp out of the frame then!!!!!

Sir Alex Ferguson has been in charge of 1,500 games for Manchester United.
If you include time allowed for stoppages, it's nearer 2,000 games.

Following the shock news that Sir Alex Ferguson is retiring at the end of the season, Wrigleys have announced they have entered administration.

Tottenham have had more Bale-outs than Greece, Ireland and Spain put together.

Sepp Blatter's office was burgled, and all the results for Russia 2018 were stolen.

Now that Cardiff have won the Championship, there are now 3 Welsh teams in the Premiership.
Cardiff, Swansea and Gareth Bale

"It's 2 in the morning and you come crawling in with a love bite on your neck?" she screamed.
"Sorry dear, we were playing away at Anfield again this week."
"Fair enough love"

Robin van Persie's Premier League winners medal will be the closest Arsenal have come to silverware in years.....

I don't understand the Arsenal fans giving the United team such a poor reception last week. They've waited for years to see the Premier League champions run out at the Emirates...

And finally, my favourite...

As an Arsenal fan I was delighted to hear that Fergie had retired.
At least not winning anything will be easier next season.

Here?s to next season... good luck to Cardiff, Hull and ????

who was in the SAF Stand..

Report
Pan · 15/05/2013 21:54

Yes, I have been talking with two London Reds by phone and a good mate how was in the SAF Stand, and they say the same thing. The confidence of having Moyes and the back room he will have gave that edge to it. I've had numerous great days at OT over the years (incl winning promotion from Div2!) but was still v Envy on not being there. But life moves on...ha!

Schools? Scholes.

Pan: it was a fab atmosphere, credit to the Swansea fans, there weren't many of them but they had their say ( including one round of "is this a library" and as you say the sacked in the morning bit). It was pretty emotional but more of a party than a wake. Schools got loads of cheers and started and played an hour. The whole thing was pretty amazing, the match itself was almost a sideshow, but delighted that we won of course.

Pan · 15/05/2013 21:37

tiger - what was it like? In the rowdy MU pub I was in it seemed the Swansea fans went along with it. Incl "Sacked in the morning!" chant when Michu equalised.

Hi Belfast. Two teams: our local team is Oxford United. A glorious 9th, for the second year running, in L2 - the sort of place the players chase after you to offer their autographs....

DS also supports Man U, so I do by default, and DH who hates footie sort of does too. i got tickets for the Swansea match months ago for DS's birthday, little did I know what an occasion it would be, I got a lot of brownie points!

Pan · 15/05/2013 19:45

Yes it was pretty emotional, tbh.

Giggs? He's doing his coaching qualifications, and whilst he hasn't actually nailed his colours to any mast....well, judge for yourself?

Wigan - sorry, but...sorry.

Report
BelfastBloke · 13/05/2013 06:36

Was it emotional? I didn't see any footy yesterday. I felt some emotion when I heard that Spurs had won, damnit.

What are Giggs's plans?

tigerdriverII who do you support? The Watford finale was amazing!

Well, that was all emotional, wasn't it?

But with Scholes going nowhere else, Giggs looking for an appointment in the coaching staff as well, poss. P. Neville following DM, and SAF behind the scene...it could really be 'same old, same old..' Which is nice.

Looking at the table we should be ok, but.... as a long suffering saints fan I'm well aware we can snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory at any time

We'll have to agree to differ, Pan or I'll monopolise the whole thread forever and a day as I jabber incessantly about my beloved Blues!

On another note, I'm just about to check on the fortunes of another south London lot - Palace - in the hope that they're winning tonight.

Pan · 10/05/2013 20:40

Yeah..my point exactly about egos and Chelsea. It isn't about Lampard getting a total of goals - it's about the club and team.

And you aren't in a mess at all. Still in third and no excuse because our Manc clubs excelled, when your club wanted to undermine the efforts of the manager, who takes responsibility for the outcomes each week. Fans chose to make life difficult for Benitez, and so the club. It's a bit late to complain about the outcome.

Report
rambososcar · 10/05/2013 20:30

A good job? He took over when we were in 3rd place, 4 points adrift of the leaders. Now look at the mess we're in! Shock And as for his benching of John Terry and Frank Lampard, he needs shooting and strangling too!!! If Frank doesn't hit that record of best goalscorer before the end of the season, because he's almost certainly not going to be at the Bridge next year, it will be no-one's fault but Benitez's for repeatedly benching our vice captain. For that alone Benitez deserves the derision and contempt of the fans - and so does Abramovic for putting him where he is and unceremoniously dumping RDM.

:D

Report
Pan · 10/05/2013 20:21

ooh Benitez. Really really good job done in all of the mire he has trod in, and none of his making, surely. Abramovich has created a culture of the 'ego' and B. has done an excellent job of, oddly, breaking that down. Another experience of The Special One will be a reversion to that culture. But it's your bed.Smile

Goal-line technology - 50/50. Sometimes I just want the game to flow come what may, sometimes I scream at the ref. Refereeing standards - sometimes I scream at the ref! Grin Get Foy, Webb and Clattenberg out, start bringing in new blood, a wider ref pool to choose from, make reffing a more attractive proposition for the young sportsperson. Germany v Spain - meh, Germany but I can't get excited about it. Financial rules for UEFA - you mean they have any? Shearer shot or strangled - both.

Benitez - just don't go there. Angry Hmm

We've missed so much this season on here. Goal-line technology, Benitez, financial rules for UEFA, refereeing standards, Germany v Spain dominance in Europe, and should Shearer be strangled or just shot in the head?

Right up there, at the top, you asked some questions so having found what surely must be the best place to hang out on MN I'd best answer them. :)

1.Which team you support. Well, Chelsea of course. Who else?! Grin
2.Which team(s) you loathe. None I really dislike, not keen on Liverpool, keener now on MUFC as it was their manager I despised rather than the team.
3.How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team. Hopeless. One fairweather Blues fan, one determined to be awkward, doesn't really have a clue about football Gooner.

  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?) Well Euro 2012 was pretty good! Grin The Europa will have to do this year but the chances of us winning it are far from a promise.
