The rolling Football thread (2012-2013)

The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

Hi, Can I join ?

  1. Arsenal
  2. Chelsea
  3. They don't have to but they all support Arsenal and I gladly got all DDs a shirt to DH's delight.
  4. I'm hoping for the Best and expecting the worse but hey, you never know! Good run in the Champions League hopefully, Top 4 PL, most definitely.
unhombre · 24/08/2012 22:02

Fergie and Van Persie clash

mankyscotslass · 25/08/2012 09:41

unhombre Grin love it.

I was at the U21 match at the Ethiad last night.

Gareth Barry looked rusty on his return from injury, but there were 3 young rising stars I was impressed with - Lopez, Halan and McGivern.

Ones to look out for.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/08/2012 17:19

Called off Sad

laracroft2001 · 25/08/2012 21:24

Pleased that RVP got his goal tally started. Annoyed about the vidic own goal but hey, a wins a win Grin

BelfastBloke · 27/08/2012 10:11

Be nice if Arsenal could get their goal tally started.

Three minutes into the game on Saturday Man U were in 19th spot. By the end of the game, we were in 7th. The Premiership = snakes and ladders at this point.

NicholasTeakozy · 28/08/2012 17:27
  1. Telford Utd.
  1. Any club that has ever employed the cheating criminal STEVE EVANS that is Steve Evans as a manager in England. So that's Boston Utd, Crawley Town and Rotherham Utd. And Fleetwood Town, as most of their 'fans' are 2CWs.
  1. No. Never pushed a club on him.
  1. I did think Luton would win the Vauxhall Conference this time, but their ten men were beaten by our nine on Saturday at Kenilworth Road.
Dordeydoo · 28/08/2012 18:51

True loyal QPR fan here
Can't stand Chelsea in particular John Terry

laracroft2001 · 30/08/2012 13:14

Oh good god DD I really really cannot stand john terry. Disgrace he is.

Also can't stand mcmcarthy but I think that's only been since I read Roy keanes autobiography lol

WestleyAndButtockUp · 30/08/2012 15:12

John Terry has been called up for England team again today.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 30/08/2012 19:24

Exciting stuff with the Champions League draw. I know we're touted as being in the group of death but surely playing with the big guns is the whole point?

We did the stadium tour on tuesday as ds (or if I'm honest DH) was desperate to see the premier league trophy. Made me want to break out in a round of 'we are not we're not really here'! It is all little unreal given my first ever city game was away at Lincoln City.

It all got a little too much for 6 year old ds who burst into tears at the trophy and again when dh said he could pick a shirt. Eventually picked the goalkeepers shirt with champions badges. Hope he regains his composure before he goes on saturday!

Oblomov · 30/08/2012 19:28

Just watched Modric , in the RM v Barcelona game. Felt a bit wierd. Sad

mankyscotslass · 30/08/2012 20:07

fanoftheinvisibleman We did the tour a couple of years ago, but we need to go back now there are trophies to see. Bless your DS!

Dh is convinced United have a man on the inside for the CL draws, even more so after tonight! At least we won't be going into them thinking they will be straightforward.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 30/08/2012 20:30

We only did the tour in March tbh but they were charging a tenner to have photo took with trophy plus ds wanted to see the changing rooms which we missed last time as we did a match day. They've just revamped it and most of it was different so we still enjoyed it. It was our last fling of the holidays and we had a great day.

Just a little emotional for ds but I hope at least it means he was an understanding of how big this all is. It worries me that our dc's aren't going to understand what it is to support a team like city because 'it's been emotional' could some it up nicely! I don't like the self pity that has hung over us at times but the black sense of humour has epitomised us at times and I like that there is a strong sense of identity.

At the and of the day if you seriously think you're a contender then you have these teams to beat anyway. And if we go out then I'd rather do it having played someone exciting.

laracroft2001 · 31/08/2012 20:59

Who else is enjoying deadline day??
Any thoughts or comments about the done deals so far?
Will Dempsey go to Liverpool
Will arsenal spend any money Grin

BelfastBloke · 31/08/2012 21:38

I am not enjoying deadline day because Arsenal are not spending any money.

We have money; but as usual are not spending it.

Am watching wheelchair basketball. It's excellent.

Canada's Number 12 is the best player in the world, and they are dominating Great Britain.

laracroft2001 · 31/08/2012 21:50

Arsenal never bloody spend money!!!Smile
Although it always bemuses me why all these clubs leave it until last minute.com to do all their business!!

I've not watched much of the paralympics. I watched some athletics today but kept getting pissed off with all the bloody adverts. Bbc done it sooo much better.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 31/08/2012 22:03

I've not seen much of what everyone else is up to as day has been a mix of paralympics coverage and letting ds have a spot of wii time. Agree about the sodding adverts though, drove us nuts.

But as for our shenanigans, De Jong is no real loss and Savic less so.

Maicon will bring experience (in place of youth!) that won't go amiss because to be fair with notable exceptions our team is fairly young. I don't know a fat lot about the young serbian defender but I trust Mancini's judgement. I think he's trying to build for the future to be fair with signing like that and Sinclair and there are a lot of games to play at this level. Again I need another burst of 'we are not, we're not really here!' Champion League indeed, who'd have thought it would ever happen when sat at Maine Road screaming at Alfie Inge Haarland (sp!) for yet another short corner!

fanoftheinvisibleman · 31/08/2012 22:10

I tell a lie, it was his throw ins that enraged me...I've blushed remembering the abuse I hurled at him from the 2nd row. Sorry Alfie, I do apologise. I'm really not like that now!

Chelski got handed their arses tonight. Mustn't laugh...

Northernexile · 31/08/2012 22:16

With regard to deadline day- Richard Wright is going to City. To be their third choice keeper. Seriously? I can't get my head round WHY he would want to. Yes, he'll be paid for doing nothing, but has he no dignity?
