The rolling Football thread (2012-2013)

The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

Man Utd fan for 20 years, fanship solidified after living on Littleton Road whilst at uni in Salford, good times popping into the training sessions to see Giggsy, Schmeichel, Incey, Becks and co Grin

Never been keen on The Arsenal and obvs wouldn't be happy if DCs supported City or Liverpool.

DD isn't really interested in footie but has opted for DHs team, West Ham. DS erring towards Man U but tbh follows the whole league, he's 7 and a walking statto.

Looking forward to an exciting season but hopefully with a different outcome. Some interesting score lines so far today.

Tension rising in the Manky house ahead of this afternoons game.

Both DH and DS1 have season tickets for City, but DS1 is at the Essex International Jamboree and is missing the game, so we are debating whether DS2 should go instead. The last match we took him to we left at half time as he had had enough - but there is no way DH will want to leave at half time on the first game of the season...

How old is DS2, Manky?

He is nearly 7, so he should be old enough, and the seats are in the family stand, but I think he likes the idea of going rather than the reality!

He did like the Cup parade so maybe I am misjudging him!

I meant to join last year's thread but never got around to it so thought I'd better nail my colours to the mast this year!

Another Arsenal fan here - my support for the Gooners goes waaaayyyy back to the 60s when I used to go to Highbury with my father.

I used to hate Man Utd, particularly during the early 2000s when every game between us and them really got nasty; but I also have a grudging admiration for SAF and for the football they play, so don't really have a team that I loathe.

Kids are grown up now but DDs both support Arsenal. DS has been corrupted by his father to support Spurs (we have North London connections and the family has been divided between Arsenal and Spurs for generations!)

Thoughts for the season - I hope RvPs chocolate leg melts and that Le Boss can find us a defensive enforcer (a la Flamini in his one good season for us) to replace Song. I hope that Chel$ea win fuck all. Ditto Citeh. Maybe I do have teams that I loathe... Grin

Fellani was superb though. Deserved MOTM.

I bet you are happy.
And yes I agree he does deserve motm

Wasn't hugely impressed with united- lots of possession- but possession doesn't win leagues. They really need to be converting all these chances they have into goals

How did your ds get on at the match manky? He's same age as me ds. He's been dragged since he was 3 and plied with food until he was fully 'trained'. He's our one and only so dh said he couldn't leave it to chance...his life would have been worthless if he couldn't raise a blue!

We are missing the opening of season really as we are in a caravan on the east yorks coast with about 3 channels and no bbc. Dh is back home and sending updates but ds has not been given last nights news which should please him.

He made me laugh yesterday as we were wandering around the shops and he started shuffling past a gift shop with his eyes shut. When questioned he said he couldn't look at it as it was full of man u stuff! I do wonder if dh has taken it too far sometimes though. Ds is dog mad and we are planning to get a border terrier soon, my mum pointed one out at seaside and as quick as a flash my 6 year old replied 'ahhh! It's lovely...shame its owner is Villa though!'. Oh dear, what have we done?

fanoftheinvisibleman DS2 got on ok - Dh said he was restless towards the end of the second half, but wasn't too bad. He said the best bit was doing the Poznan. (and City winning of course).

I'm not sure he will be asking to go again for a while though - which is just as well as DS1 will be back for the next home match.

Grin at the border terrier story. At one point DS1 refused to watch Shrek as he said it had Wayne Rooney in it. Thanks DH Hmm

Ha ha! Ds loves 'doing the poznan'. He does it in front of the tv. It does take a while before they can sit through a full match doesn't it. I think ds only managed it last season. We can't afford season tickets so QPR is first game they're going to. They did go to charity shield though.

I loved doing the poznan in front of the Citeh fans when Arsenal beat Man Citeh last season.

1.Crewe Alexandra

2.Port Vale. Plastic teams. Doncaster Rovers (bizarrely).

3.No kids as of yet. DP isn't a football man at all, so at least I'd get free reign on who I would force them to support.

  1. Loved last season as a Premiership neutral & would happily see an end like that again. Reckon we'll see a lot of big name managers struggling ie Rogers & AVB. Although I really don't like Man Utd, I'd like to see Nick Powell get a few games and really show what he can do.

I just realised I never signed in properly as per instructions. So here goes.

1.Man City.

2.Man U .

3.As the only blue in a family of reds DH felt he needed to be on the ball and got DS sorted with a season ticket - all the kids share it in turn. He was worried they would be corrupted by the reds in the family. We were going to have to let the season tickets go this year as we are broke, but my mum paid for them as a thank you gift.

  1. I'd like us to get a good run in the Champions League.
