Tour de France is happening next week?

Probably? Fingers crossed?
If a team gets sent home with two positive tests it may end up being more a test of avoiding the 'rona than cycling!

In RL bike news, I'd bought a MTB in March, one week before lockdown so its hardly got use really. Was out yesterday on these High Peak slopes. It weighs as much as a tour bus, and is about as agile.....have become an unashamed user of the MTB granny ring...

EndoplasmicReticulum · 01/09/2020 12:25

I'm still of the opinion that if only one Yates is riding a tour you could have the other one hiding behind a tree halfway along to take over.

Le Tour's worst kept secret.

IDontMindMarmite · 02/09/2020 06:44

I'm wondering a little bit about Sagan. David Millar suggested that perhaps he is past his prime, he's 30 years old, what do you think?

notimagain · 02/09/2020 07:09

There's talk in some places that he's looking a bit leaner this year..(wish I was).

Today's Stage (Stage 5) looks like his sort of stage..if he's not in the mix at the finish later today I'd say he's certainly not at his best.

prettybird · 02/09/2020 08:09

Slipping down the table again....but given I haven't been following much this year I'm surprised at the successes I've had so far! Grin Bike

Pan2 · 02/09/2020 15:03

Weird day, no break away, feed zone they may as well be at picnic tables with their feet up, a nice red and a ^gitaine'. Poetry recital, and some philosophical discussion.. Good to see!

Have realised there won't be an iconic sunflower shot, will there? Too late in the season. I've only got one in the garden and that hasn't formed a face yet.

Weird.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 02/09/2020 16:58

Looked at the Guardian commentary earlier mostly said "nothing is happening"

Bummer Sad

JofraArchersFastestBall · 02/09/2020 20:10

What a shame for Alaphilippe. It's a very stupid sport sometimes.

Pan2 · 02/09/2020 20:30

I'm just reading a quote where he says he was unaware of the rule....Hmm. But....it's well, well know. Remember when Froome was penalised? Something about keeping fluids in ice in the team car....or other. Is he really saying he was unaware??

MrSlant · 02/09/2020 22:13

I mean they put someone out on the course with food for him are they saying no one knows the rules? I smell a rat.

Endo my youngest said the same thing, 'he's only doing every other day' Grin

But ignore me anyway, I'm sulking quietly in the corner.

notimagain · 02/09/2020 22:30

Cycling conspiracy theorists elsewhere are pondering whether or not it's a cunning plan to relieve the team of the burden of defending the yellow jersey for a few days.

Pan2 · 04/09/2020 18:00

This may be a good time to call the whole thing off......Bike

Allez!! Don't you just love van Aert?

MrSlant · 04/09/2020 18:39

Not so much, no Grin

Pan2 · 04/09/2020 20:38

Aren't I our 3rd or 4th maillot juane and we're still in the first week? Your turn soon Mr !
Appears nothing van A can't do. And AY is doing pretty good in yellow. I imagine he is still thinking "Really?"

JofraArchersFastestBall · 04/09/2020 20:58

What a stage! I think I prefer echelons to mountains.
I wish I'd picked WvA - apparently he was bluffing when he said he was only going to be on domestic duty.

prettybird · 04/09/2020 21:54

I am most disappointed at Calmjane Hmm

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/09/2020 22:08

Well that made up for the really dull stage the other day.

Endo we have exactly the same theory about the Yates brothers. Every time they mention Adam Yates, DD1 and I ask each theatrically “Or IS IT?”

The race has been pretty exciting so far.

notimagain · 04/09/2020 22:30

Yep, I'm starting to think that way..today's stage was a cracker thanks to Jumbo and Bora.

I always loved the mountain stages but they have become somewhat predictable, seems to have become whichever mega team is top dog (US Postal/Sky/Ineos, delete as applicable) delivers their team leader and top climber to bottom of final climb, winds him up, lets him go..

Today was much more fun.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/09/2020 22:44

Adam Yates gave an interview the other day in mask and huge sunglasses could have been anyone in there. Husband has a theory there are actually Yates triplets so there's a spare nobody ever sees....

Pair and a spare ... sounds legit Grin Bike
DoctorTwo · 05/09/2020 09:07

Pair and a spare. Like the Royle Family. My arse.

Pan2 · 05/09/2020 11:46

So a good weekend for the Yates brothers, then? Grin
Two cat 1 climbs each day, so they can share them out nicely.
(are we sure there won't be a legal-types scribbling our libels...)
