Tnogu!

Did you see the BBC4 prog about the above? I used to LOVE ES but not as passionately now.
We need a thread to discuss painters we loved when we were little and grew out of!

How are you???

Long time no speak, hope you're well.

DS off school sick so I'm going to be coming and going today from the computer.

Little mystery guest is doing well! 13 weeks and counting! I'm very happy but full of trepidation of course.

Have you your ladies today? How are those students behaving? And how's your Muse? generous?

big hug

vxxxxxxx

Ha ! that is young to me !!

ipanemagirl · 25/03/2008 14:06

I agree, half of 86 was young until I had the mental image of
ALL
THAT
KNEELING!!!!!!!!

And the terrible muffin tops of doom blobbing into innocent bystanders view! I'm going to have to just hit the trackie bottoms and commit to them!

Imagine what that 57 yr old mother to be must be feeling !!
You'll be fine I'm sure - though I don't envy you the monotony of day to day babycare...it's been sooo long since ds was little that the memory has almost gone out of my head. Dh only wanted 1 child and I suppose I must have felt the same, somehow we felt ok and balanced as a little unit of 3.

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 12:57

Hi- been away- ooh ipanemagirl- I love Patrick Heron- the colours are great.

And those cakes- very arty indeed

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 13:03

Eat that chocolate, think of Rubenesque women not muffin tops!

You'll be fine at your age....

ipanemagirl · 26/03/2008 13:43

Thanks maryann and northernref! I'm thinking positive!
You're as young as you feel?!

Art and big women here

This is a friend of my SIL who we've just been with in Brighton.

Not sure I like all of these,( occasionally they remind me of Beryl Cook eughh!- yes Mary, I'm an art snob..I can hear you you know!..) but I enjoy the sentiment!

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:03

Actually- take that back- I REALLY like her prints.....

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:07

Matissey, and some of the watercolours...

I always likedEileen Cooper

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:12

strange but good

a bit like a female Ken Kiff ?

Do you remeber when he came to college Mary? With Susan ? Strangey wangey but interesting

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:29

like ben nicholson but gorgeous

Bryan Ingham

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:35

We went to the open studio of this artist last year Mark Hearld

he also prints fabric, and does the most wonderful ceramics.
AND has the most adorable Patterdale terrier.

His house was FAB.... loads of brilliant collections of toys and STUFF...

his fabric

scroll down to see his plates

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 14:36

Mary- they remind me of your ds's Easter card!

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/03/2008 14:54

wow northern - you are really spoiling us with these links - I love them all, especially though Brian Ingham and Mark Hearld..will look at them all later properly (am in midst of new bathroom and it's making me very nervous) and got to go to help at ds's after school craft club in a sec - but really gorgeous stuff, really makes me feel inspired !! Do you know, I can't remember Ken Kiff coming - though I do remember Sue Coe ! (waves to Ipanemagirl)

northernrefugee39 · 26/03/2008 15:54

Yeah - it is so inspiring isn't it?

Do you think Bryan Ingham is consciously copying Ben Nicholson? They're totally derivitive don't you think ? Tho' I don't think it matters at all.

Good luck with the bathroom- the disruption is distressing- we still haven't finished everything here - I can't face it- the builders, lack of privacy, mess.... oh- I don't envy you, but a new bathroom will be a treat, just think forwards

What colours? Jewel or shaker blue or creamy stripey?
What tiles? Floor? Freestanding bath? Shower? OOOHHH- it's exciting!

ipanemagirl · 26/03/2008 16:28

norref39 I love Mark Hearld, those fabrics are wonderful, and the prints!

He reminds me a bit of Brian Wildsmith another huge fave of mine.

Great links thanks a lot

And really liked those big lasses - far prefer them to Beryl's actually!

am too exhausted to write or appreciate all the lovely pictures still...will try again tomorrow...we have no bath or shower so are bathing in the basin ! at least we have water and a flushing loo, though who knows what tomorrow may bring ?! We have moved the sweet Victorian cast iron bath on feet down to the garden, sadly it is too tiny and impractical to use..so we're having a bath with power shower over, new loo and new basin..keeping the wooden varnished floorboards and tiling in blues/turquoise and cobalt and painting it a very nice and subtle grey green- pictures will follow...everywhere is covered in dust from old shower where tiles have been pulled off...eek... will appreciate the art v soon,it's a comfort to me. I had a glass of sherry just now to restore my spirits !

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/03/2008 14:05

those bird plates are fab - yes, they are like T's drawing - he would love them !! Bath is in and hope will be able to use it tonight, also new loo is being put in now, so hope that will be useable soon !

northernrefugee39 · 27/03/2008 17:52

Oh i know- aren't they gorgeous? Also terribly lots of sponds unfortunately......
His house is open again soon- can't wait.

Have to collect eldest from friend...

Glad you can BATH!
Hey- it's nearly over....and it'll all be lovely...

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/03/2008 19:00

didn't look to see how much..have you seen any of Steve Jenkins' new stuff, will link if I can find...I have a tile and a vase which mum bought from his exhibition for me...
can't quite believe this but bath/loo/basin are all in - it's like someone else's bathroom ! bath panels not attached yet as power shower needs finishing and there's a fair bit of plastering/tiling etc to do, but it's luxury ! I feel I need posh soap (actually I have 2 bars of Jo Malone I was hording), new fluffy towels - I want to look like something in The White Company !!

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/03/2008 19:02

Steven Jenkins

northernrefugee39 · 28/03/2008 11:43

OOh- I like Steve's new stuff.... we have amug of his with a face on.

Glad you're all set for bath time bliss!

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/03/2008 12:29

my vase is a sort of flat one with a fearny leafy thing on it and tile is a dog...tiling being done now...had bath in new bath which was very exciting
