Tnogu!

Did you see the BBC4 prog about the above? I used to LOVE ES but not as passionately now.
We need a thread to discuss painters we loved when we were little and grew out of!

How are you???

Long time no speak, hope you're well.

DS off school sick so I'm going to be coming and going today from the computer.

Little mystery guest is doing well! 13 weeks and counting! I'm very happy but full of trepidation of course.

Have you your ladies today? How are those students behaving? And how's your Muse? generous?

big hug

of course Dufy and Piero della Francesca - it's too difficult to choose ! to write your own comment in the link, put the link as usual and leave a space after the last word of link, before the double brackets, then write your comment and close the brackets

northernrefugee39 · 18/03/2008 18:41

oh i saw this thread title, and love egon schiele, hope am not too late to join in..

i saw some of his paintings 'live' as it were recently at barbican (sex in art) fab exhibition i loved it and colours were so vivid and almost lurid (girl in a red dress am thinking of)
..twas a real treat..
and made me realise i will not leave it so long again to visit in person the works of art that i love...

in rush atm but just wanted to say hi to fellow appreciators really...

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 19/03/2008 14:28

hello Dee - yes,do join in here... I'm afraid that I have been to very few exhibitions since moving away from London - just a few local ones and one trip to Tate Modern a couple of months ago...it made me think that it's something I must make the effort to do more often...

Tnog · 19/03/2008 15:49

I'm going to an opening exhibition tonight of a an artist called Tony Kew.

I'm not sure he's very well-known, particularly outside of Ireland, but I'm really looking forward to having a look at his paintings.

This is a lovely thread.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 19/03/2008 16:54

tell us all about it tnog please - any links ?

DeeRiguer · 19/03/2008 19:15

have lovely evening tnogu!
gosh an opening, that takes me back.
..art and wine..drools dribbles and says inappropriate things to important people..
ahhhh

maryann seeing things live kinda made me feel alive again, art wise, lol
and i promised myself i would not leave it as long again

i feel real out of touch with modern artists and would love to be more in touch with what is happening out there...

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 19/03/2008 19:32

absolutely agree with you DeeRigeur

Tnog · 20/03/2008 07:34

Oh I can't do links < wails >

Sorry

The exhibition was interesting, although the paintings didn't appeal to me hugely.

His actual painting technique reminded me a little of Domenico Ghirlandaio the Renaissance artist.

Within his subject matter there was a real feeling of other worldliness and symbolism, they were also quite erotic.

Wine flowed generously, but I managed to stay sober and not make even more of a fool of myself and the actual location of the gallery was quite lovely, overlooking a river with all the lights of the surrounding buildings reflected in it.

I hope that didn't all sound very poncey.

Art should never be that, it should feed the senses and the soul and help us somehow to make sense of things in a world where very little does.

WowOoo · 20/03/2008 08:48

Have saved this thread as I need to look up some of the artists mentioned here.
I could not do a top five artists/paintings - too difficult. It's like asking what my fave band/singer is!! But, good to think about it. So interesting that it totally depends on my mood and what's going on in our lives and as you say Tnog, for us to make sense of things.
Def in the mood for some colour and movement in art today as it is so dull and cold and I need to warm up!

WowOoo · 20/03/2008 08:57

By the way. Son and I made a lovely mess with paint and did some clay modelling too. So proud of the blob he made and am so chuffed he's so into colours and shapes at the mo'.
Wish I'd studied art. I wasn't allowed to! So, those TV progs and books are great for non-art educated folk like me!

Tnog · 20/03/2008 09:07

WowOoo - I used to love making things with ds when he was younger, clay animals and lovely splodgy paintings in rainbow colours

He's 10 now and prefers to play soccer and hide up trees.

My father didn't want me to study art, thought it pointless and that, 'You can hardly make a career out of a hobby' - his words never stopped me and for you it's not too late to do a class.

It's much better to fill your head with art than be stuck over-analysing the horrible aspects of life.

CinderellaInCyberspace · 20/03/2008 09:11

sneeks in to look at the pictures

WowOoo · 20/03/2008 09:20

Ah, does your son like art at school though/creating things now?
Great idea about doing a class. Have meant to for years but never seem to find the time. Will get onto it - thanks!
