Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

I am actually shocked this morning. What the hell is that awful 'joke' about Schindler. Sick revolting woman.

Heatherfell · 04/08/2023 09:28

All her ranting troll posts and suicidal dancing posts have been removed. They’ll be back. They always are.

RhinoRhino · 04/08/2023 09:41

@Heatherfell I think the dream-trolls were a bit like the dream-jobs. Largely borne of an overactive imagination ........

@Tortiemiaw @Melszone I’m utterly speechless.

A friend just pointed out to me that in this morning's I missed off the Podcast from the list of ‘real things’ (rather than ‘fantasy stuff’) relating to Edgeway Press. I wasn’t sure what she meant, then I remembered. Aaah yes. The Podcast. The ‘coming soon’ Podcast. (Maybe even the ‘coming clean’ podcast.) Sponsored by The Missing Bean.

Or ‘The Missing Podcast’ for short.

(Could also do a joke about beans and pods, but I can’t be bothered to think of one ……)

Anyway, this somebody also pointed out that contrary to all the sniping from us MN and TL Cleaning Ladies there IS money to be earned by solo women turning up at exclusive hotels in mini-skirts and ordering a drink at the bar. On their own. Not sure exactly how this would result in a nice little earner, but I’ll take my friend’s word for it. A dream job for some?

Truly despicable. (How long do you think before this post too goes the way of the dancing troll ones?)

Thankfully I missed this as I'm no longer on twitter (assuming that's where it was), but how bloody awful. There seems to be no ends to the depths of tone deafness this woman will not sink to....words fail me as to how anyone with an iota of decency would consider offering her employment of any kind. I can only guess they've not seen her SM accounts!

It was/is on her stories. It will disappear after a while but not for those who saw it. Jeez I mean.

I do actually think the little tutorial whilst flying over Venice on the origins of the city is quite sweet, but if any of the MN cleaners are familiar with The Fast Show you will get why I was sniggering after “and that was the start of Venice …..” whilst awaiting the final comment:

“Which was nice”!😂😂😂

Far out. The poor little rich girl returned to Earth with a bump this evening. Having been forced to travel alone with her own child on a very straightforward journey she tells us she’s done many times before, to her credit, she managed to load the washing machine three times! Quite the heroine 🦹‍♂️. Quite what she filled three loads with 🤷‍♀️ After all, her ‘I will survive’ capsule collection remains in Venice to accent her high flying career and other than this, she wears the same vest and pants day in, day out.

High fives due all round. Lizzie’s survivors mentality has been commendable. On top of using an automatic washing machine, no banging her draws against a rock, she cleaned both of her houses. great flex there Lizbeth.

It’s such a shame her “enormous” son couldn’t lend a hand with the household chores or mowing the lawn or dare we ask, does he actually live there? Tune in to Playing at Life tomorrow when Liz will show us the ”enormous” son through the instagram square window, just to prove me wrong!

"Travelled from Venice to Oxford alone with child". If she went Oxford to Venice "alone with child" why does she now gripe and think she deserves a medal for doing the return journey "alone with child". She sounds resentful that she has a child in this post. She also sounds manic in this post. Clearly, she had to get her frenzied exercising in on top of cleaning houses, travelling "alone with child" and cutting grass. What an awful way to live. ('Must stay thin, must stay thin, must stay thin, must stay thin, must stay thin').

Tortiemiaw · 05/08/2023 08:19

In the 1960s and 70s, my widowed mum worked 2 jobs trying to balance the books, brought me and my sister up alone, dealt with the weirdness of neighbours who were terrified she'd steal their very undesirable husbands and took me to Ireland, north Africa, north America and all over the country SOLO!!!!!! I don't remember her thinking it was some massive achievement - although, compared to little miss spoilt knickers, I rather think it was now. LF has absolutely no idea

Phew for Liz! She was able to off load the pesky kid the second she landed. Six days she’s had to endure dragging her about. More than any parent who CHOSE to have a child is expected to do. Fingers crossed she gets some all about ME time for the foreseeable 🤬. Nothing, but nothing has been for that poor child this past week. Great wraps of time spent on her own while her “mother” lives it up. A lot of silencing bananas must have been dished out in that basement room.

What a fantastic mum 😊

Tortiemiaw · 05/08/2023 08:43

To be honest, there were lots of things about her that weren't great, but she had no choice but to work and manage and the travelling was amazing! I was lucky in that respect.
I just get so pissed off with our dear friend thinking she's invented single parenthood! I was SOLO with my eldest when she was small as loads of us were, and we just kind of....get on with it, dont we?!

Umbrellaisback · 05/08/2023 08:53

I’m also mystified by the three loads of washing given a the capsule wardrobe that lives in Venice b the fact she only owns two black vests and a pair of reeking converse and c she did the washing already a day or two ago in Venice as we admired how Venetian in was strung up outdoors.

🤣🤣🤣 just can't help herself. Rumour has it these shots are also to goad the person she had an affair with before Mike (the one who cannot be named, though most know who this is). She's very, very messed up. If she's not trying to get at Mike (who has zero interest in her), it's someone she left for Mike. And if it's not those two, then the rest of cyberspace will just have to admire her to make her feel better about herself.

Did he who can’t be mentioned get fervoured when she wore it so she does it to “heat him up” every so often? Keep control over him? 🤢🤮

Raffington55 · 05/08/2023 11:30

@Mortonswood Well, when she left him for Mike there was a big legal brouhaha and she slapped a restraining order on him I which I believe expired this year (she hinted at legal issues and 'winning' earlier this year in silly dramatic posts). I think (though others will know more so absolutely don't quote me on this as it's grapevine stuff) that the restraining order was extended this year (probably unnecessarily as he is living happily with his very nice wife). But given that he allegedly can't go anywhere near her, don't you think this makes the goading negligee shots, bikini shots, body shots all the nastier?

I hang my washing out to dry when it’s dry. I also make a super spaghetti bolognaise. Does this make me Venetian?
