Looks like it will be a bad one. I'd say there will be a lot of power cuts so make sure you have an alternative means of cooking/heating and stock up on torches, candles etc. Not forgetting the aul' bread........

Sorry your power is gone op, hopefully it comes back- my alarm clock obviously went off but is back on so fingers crossed for you! Have just walked around the house to check on the kids- all asleep and it turns out we’re sleeping in the loudest room😅 Only the cat and dog are awake. Hoping to get back to sleep soon- have to go into work this afternoon (retail and they plan on opening after the warning is over)

VaddaABeetch · 24/01/2025 05:33

My power has gone.

What a pain. Had a flicker here, which normally leads to an outage.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 24/01/2025 05:39

Wind woke me at 4.30 and then I needed a pee, so the cats followed me to the bathroom to ask for early breakfast! Some big gusts here at the moment (Wicklow) but we still have power for now.

BackinBlack24 · 24/01/2025 05:47

Whole house just shook its timber frame felt it laying in bed . Baby asleep next too me I'm wide awake now our red warning kicks in at 6am where I am Hope everyone is safe

VictorianScreenTime · 24/01/2025 05:55

Power gone here in our bit of the west and the house is like an airplane in turbulence. And just look at the ESB outage map!

Power still on here but the winds have really ramped up in the last 20 mins so I expect it won't be too long until it goes

BackinBlack24 · 24/01/2025 06:34

Light flickering here really ramping up in Meath , ran down and boiled the kettle so I'll be able to make bottles

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 24/01/2025 06:34

Fierce windy now in Cork. Power still on.

suki1964 · 24/01/2025 06:36

Really loud here in North Antrim - 5 miles inland, power is flickering

Im just about to start boiling the water and filling the flasks

poopoobarneymcgrew · 24/01/2025 06:38

Liv999 · 24/01/2025 06:38

hopeishere · 24/01/2025 06:38

Belfast too. Sooooo windy!!

stanleypops66 · 24/01/2025 07:03

Wind fierce here outside Belfast. Haven't been able to sleep for hours. Can hear the bins flying everywhere. Still have electric so stuck the heat on and filled all the flasks just in case.

Dontbeme · 24/01/2025 07:04

In Westmeath and I can't remember winds as bad as this, feels like the entire house is rattling. Still have power thankfully. Stay safe everyone.

Readytoevolve · 24/01/2025 07:34

Power went at half 6 here on the west coast.

ArabellaScott · 24/01/2025 07:35

Hope you're all alright. Blowing a hoolie here in Scotland.

deeahgwitch · 24/01/2025 07:47

I'm gobsmacked by the temperature - it's showing 6 degrees here in Dublin but the "feels like" is showing -10 !
Belfast "feels like" showing -12 !!!!

BarbaraHoward · 24/01/2025 08:24

Morning! Very windy here in North Down, but power still on thankfully.

Helpstress2025 · 24/01/2025 09:18

It's crazy here in co. Antrim. Loads of power cuts but at the moment my lights are just flickering. So thankfully for the girl that lives next to my granda keeping an eye on him so we don't have to travel to check on him even sent him in a flask of warm water and sandwiches this morning incase of power cut.

That's so lovely of if only there were more people like that in the world

Soonenough · 24/01/2025 11:25

Well personally here on east coast it is not that bad . And red alert ended at 11am. Not much damage being reported. Don't know how we missed it as beach very near . Very normal here no power cuts so far

MarieDeGournay · 24/01/2025 13:13

It wasn't bad during the night where I am in the East, the worst was this morning from about 6.30, when it got really wild. It's still stormy here, I've just checked the windspeed online, and there are still gusts of over 100km/h going on here.

I've lost a small tree and some shrubs, and a car across the road had something blown into it and is damaged, but apart from that -
no power outages, no structural damage to the house, so I'm very very lucky and I'm full of sympathy for those without power, or with damage to their homes.

Full marks to the Met people who got it pretty much spot on, and who have to put up with being 'damned if they do and damned if they don't' when there's bad weather approaching Ireland. If hurricane-force winds and all-time record wind speeds aren't a full-on bona-fide Red Alert, I don't know what is!

And full marks too to the ESB crews struggling in atrocious conditions getting the power back on.

justasking111 · 24/01/2025 13:23

Nw Wales still blowing hard. I think Darragh did the damage, nothing left to blow over this time thankfully
