Looks like it will be a bad one. I'd say there will be a lot of power cuts so make sure you have an alternative means of cooking/heating and stock up on torches, candles etc. Not forgetting the aul' bread........

I can’t see any red warnings, only yellow or amber. Do you have a link?

HappyWhenItsSnowing · 22/01/2025 17:29

Think they are saying 85mph

Was 100mph yesterday

I'm quite concerned. I live alone and am exposed at the back where there is a huge playing field (GAA of course lol).

I hate high winds at the best of times. Now I'm worried that the roof will come off, that the shed will blow away and kill someone, that the windows will blow in, that something will hit the windows. I'm catastrophising I know....

I think just stay in bed with an eye mask and ear plugs and hope all will be well.

Let us hope people observe the warnings and stay home. No loss of life please, roofs and sheds etc. can be repaired.

If you're not in Ireland and are not expecting this Red Warning, I wish I was where you are right now 😊

justasking111 · 22/01/2025 18:06

Take care Ireland. We're West coast of Wales where it will be bad enough. 🤞

MariLlwyd · 22/01/2025 18:07

We're used to a bit of a breeze in North Pembrokeshire!

Central England so should be ok. Used to live in Co Kerry though and my sister is there so hoping all is ok!

Me too, I'm very nervous about it, we usually lose power is lower warnings so will prepare, no power here means no water too. Hopefully everyone will be safe. 🙏🏻 At least we won't be travelling as schools, work etc close in red warnings.

DeanElderberry · 22/01/2025 18:35

I still have the drinking water and logs and batteries I bought for the snow. Will stock up on cat food and human food tomorrow. It sounds terifying, but short of fleeing the country, what can we do?

At least we have a government . . . . . oh.

BarbaraHoward · 22/01/2025 18:41

The BBC NI article says there's a red warning in 26 counties and then lists the counties. 🤣

Maybe I should ask MN to edit my title - I don't want to send the whole of the UK into a panic.

This storm seems likely to be one of the worst in living memory.
The whole country on red alert is a rarity and unprecedented.
Stay safe everyone.

Calochortus · 22/01/2025 23:06

Thankfully we’re in the yellow warning area this time but we’ve had amber warnings of wind over the winter and those were bad enough. Stay safe those of you in the red warning areas. The last time we had a red warning was the Beast from the East and that was hellish.

Helpstress2025 · 23/01/2025 09:09

I'm in Northern Ireland and can't believe we are still in amber but the rest of the island is on red alert. Please stay safe and hopefully not much damage will be caused

Me too. I need to go into Belfast for work tomorrow unless we go red. Not sure if I'm hoping we go or not tbh.

Helpstress2025 · 23/01/2025 09:18

@BarbaraHoward I have a hospital appointment tomorrow in the royal and they have just cancelled it and email from the school to say they will be in touch this afternoon to say if school will be closed tomorrow or not.

Interesting. Hope the hospital appointment being cancelled is ok, I know how long we've waited for some in the past Flowers

justasking111 · 23/01/2025 10:06

We're in amber in N Wales. On the coast we will be slammed. We had no water four days last week, now this. Haven't had a full week at school yet.

PickAChew · 23/01/2025 10:12

The Met Office have just issued a red warning for NI and Southern Scotland. It's going to be a nasty one 😱

NoisyBear · 23/01/2025 10:44

I'm not one to normally get in flap over these things but it's not looking great for us is it?
