British Gas payment for heating costs

I pay British Gas by direct debit. Their website says I will receive £66 into the bank account I pay from a few days after my direct debit is paid. I paid on the 1st October and still nothing . Has anybody else received theirs ?

@Era try a dm on Twitter to their help account. I spoke to someone quickly on that today and they were actually really helpful. Mine is delayed due to a technical fault and it's affecting other people too apparently.

We’re British Gas and received £66 into our bank account , as it says , just after the direct debit went out 👍

The £66 goes straight onto the utility account, and not into bank accounts, this is what I have been told recently.

Check with your suppliers or login to your energy accounts, it should be there. I would also expect DD to still come out as normal too.

Not with British Gas it doesn’t

Yes, I received mine a couple of weeks ago from British Gas. Tbh I don’t read a lot of my Mail and don’t check my online account so I wasn’t even aware of it until I saw the money credited to my account. I have a smart meter btw.

Yeah I pay by direct debit and mine was paid direct to my bank account by BG.

So my dd is £48 so in supposed to have £48 put in my bank and the remaining £18 added as a credit to my electricity account. I realise it says it can take up to 10 days but it really shouldn't take that long. Other suppliers are paying it within a few days. Anyone else had any problems with British gas?

Yes me. Apparently some people have been affected by a technical fault. I'm still waiting and my DD was paid on the 5th. It failed to go through on the 12th and they're trying to fix it. Might be worth a dm to the British Gas help Twitter. They've been the most helpful so far in terms of a response. Still nothing for me and it looks unlikely I'll get it this month unless something happens tomorrow. I can only hope they get it sorted asap before I'm chasing October and November....

Trying to help my mum with her £66 and I am so confused !!

She pays 2x direct debits.
Gas and then electric.

Her DD for electric is less than £66.
The amount got refunded into her bank account
If I increase her DD to over £66 will she then get the £66 refund next month or is there a qualifying period that the higher DD has to have been paid during ?

I pay (not BG) by one DD and it does not differentiate my usage .

Really don't want her loosing out due to a technicality .

Got through to BG a lot quicker than I thought I would 😁

The DD is refunded to bank account and the extra remaining is put into electric account as credit.

Our account with bulb was credited and they reduced our direct debit, it's now lower than summer 2021 before the rises. Happy days

Still nothing so I've not had my October payment and now will have to chase it alongside hoping my November one isn't affected as well. I could really do without this.

I’m with BG and received £66 in my current account last week. As I’m paying plenty in DD I’ve topped up my Iceland card for Christmas food.

I am confused, my direct debit went out last week, today I have noticed a £13 credit to my account (as my direct debit is £52) then there is a £52 credit - so I assume the £13 goes as credit on to my account but the £52 should be put into my bank account? If so, how long does that take?

Good luck with british gas everyone! Still not got mine despite paying my direct debit 2 weeks and 3 days ago! They told me yesterday they have no control over when payment is made, its the government! I'm so angry with british gas I'm changing suppliers! Octopus just reduce your direct debit payment so you're not paying it out in the first place!

I spoke to someone using the app chat facility today and was told my case would be escalated and resolved within 5 working days since the payment ought to have come though...

Interestingly mine was delayed and then yesterday two payments of £66 were credited onto my electricity account - not paid back into my bank account

@Era me too, 2 x £66 credits. I'm delighted that the money is finally there, but again not what they said was happening! I wonder whether the credit will change to an outgoing payment. If it does then it will go into the bank a few days after I guess.

At this stage I'm so relieved I can stop chasing after it. If it stays as a credit I'll be calling to change my direct debit, as it doesn't make sense to have a credit and the direct debit set as if there's no credit. I'll feel no benefit and the money will all stay with them. Although if it goes up again in April then maybe a buffer will be helpful.

I was fed up chasing british gas for my payment. Waited 2 weeks and 3 days after my dd was paid, so I switched to octopus energy. You have a choice with them. You can either reduce your dd by £66 or have it credited to your account so you can build up credit. And they answered the phone within 2 minutes! Best british gas have done was 47 mins. Glad I switched suppliers.

Just some info I forgot to add which might be helpful. My dd debit went out on 17th Oct. On 21st Oct £66 was credited to my energy account. British gas told me it is 10 days after its credited to your energy account that they refund to your bank. And that's exactly what happened .

Our £66 hasn’t been sent to the bank this month. It was credits to the account on the 5th but it’s not been sent out where as last month it was credited and sent out same day.
