Happier could you post a link to the frugal weigh loss thread please? I cannot find the bugger

TheresNeverEnoughCheese · 05/01/2020 09:37

Overspent on the supermarket shop yesterday. Had planned on spending 50 but spent 67.45. They had quite a lot of things with 40% discount though so I stocked up on the things that won't go off to save some money in the long run.

DS starts back at nursery this week so I'm hoping that when he's in nursery I'll have a few hours to sort out everything I want to sell and hopefully make some money for the savings account.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/01/2020 09:55

Ditto em. No work would mean time to run to the stables but then no money to pay.
She will just have to get her fill at weekend helping.

Last of sausage meat and puff made into sausage rolls with a bit of Stilton in some. Chicken and bacon and leek thing made so will add creme fraich and have it with pasta, left over spud covered in goose fast and frozen for roast. Root veg in SC with chicken sausage casserole.

Had to throw the double cream and last of the parsnips.

That's the last of Christmas except for sweets which are stashed to ration.

ememem84 · 05/01/2020 10:01

As of tomorrow I’m vegan again. I did feel better last time for it.

The majority of the cheese has gone - will keep some for ds and also some milk for him. Dh and I will switch to oat milk.

Am very behind and haven't caught up with the thread - sorry!

Spent a fair bit on Friday, I've lost track a bit but would think nearly £100 this included clothes in the sale for dd, my mums bday present and a take away treat for my mums bday.

Ystd spent £15 on dds haircut

Today should be a nsd.

Am still going with my frugal aim, can add to the list using a points system to get £5 off dds haircut Ystd and buying 10 bday cards for £1 in card warehouse to go in the card box.

It's been a really busy few days, I've found that dd not having her phone has meant that I've gone on mine less as well....

ChristmasSeacow · 05/01/2020 10:33

More new people, welcome! This thread is so busy, lots of shared inspiration.

Life I can’t believe how much cooking you’ve done, leftovers or not! Today I need to make chicken stock (then chicken risotto for dinner tonight - bet DC won’t touch it 🙄), a pork, chorizo and chickpea casserole for the freezer and roast done veg for winter salads for lunch. I will have to chop up two butternut squash. There will be swearing.

Hippy I’ve quite a bit of weight to lose too - I’m going back to slimming world on Tuesday. I’ll rejoin the frugaleers’ weight loss thread as it’s good to be among friends. I’m off to a wedding in May and really want to feel significantly better by then.

My iPad is still not working since trying to update the OS on Friday. I spent hours on it yesterday. iTunes now tells me I’ve updated the OS and it will restart but it doesn’t. Factory reset is the only thing left to try now. I am rather fed up.

Spends yesterday £5.75 on a sample tile. Have now chosen all my bathroom tiles and laying patterns. Just need to choose suite.

Spends today will be bread rolls and red onions, as Ocado didn’t have any. I might also buy some lovely copper pendant lights for my new kitchen. Kitchen hasn’t been designed yet but I have my heart set on these lights to go over the island - is that madness? They are in the sale at the mo and it’s quite a significant saving. I’m having similar wrestles with furniture for the new kitchen diner - I’ve seen a lovely coffee table for the sofa area... I’m going to resist though.

ChristmasSeacow · 05/01/2020 10:34

Ooh, forgot to say I really love your new hair Plan!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 05/01/2020 10:35

@Unescorted It wasn’t my DS with the bike but that’s a really kind offer for someone on here.

Lots of assignments going on - what is everyone studying?

Today will be NSD (first this year!) as having family over for dinner to celebrate a birthday.

We’re having leek and potato soup, chicken & mushroom pie and leftover pannetone bread and butter pud - all very carby Smile

Ugh. Back to work, I like my job and I’m still all ugh.

wolf & seacow Frugaleers talk food/fitness & weight loss - last push for 2019 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3729103-Frugaleers-talk-food-fitness-weight-loss-last-push-for-2019

Also packing away Christmas sweets today, dc have what's left of their selection boxes.

I'm tired, I was home at 2.15am but I watched a couple of episodes of Emmerdale when I got home & was on social media & mumsnet too Hmm

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2020 11:20

Dc both have friends over today, I've to collect au pair so have done a shopping list just to keep vouchers in date €50 worth for €40, will review doing full weekly shop when I get a moving date for house.

GuyFawkesDay · 05/01/2020 12:35

Went for walk. Got the kids cake from the top lock cafe £2.50. they're having friends to play later so have made cakes to decorate so that's a reasonable day. Back to work tomorrow so I'll be very frugal as I can't spend!!!

Wolfcub · 05/01/2020 12:54

Thanks Life and Happier for the link

Home now and freezing. Ds is in the shower. Disgusting kit is in the wash. Soup and bread for lunch and then will make mac and cheese for tea with all the odds and ends of the cheeseboard. I do this every year and will do sauce first and see if there is enough of that to bang some macaroni cheeses in the freezer. Will probably put some bacon in too as I have two packs to use by the end of next week.

I really need to do a cupboard audit. I am not sure I can face it.

Nsd so far. Can't find my break bin (lock lock box) and trying to resist ordering another.

For those looking to save money on coffees out I really recommend investing in a contigo travel mug. I bought one a few years ago after a recommendation on this thread and it honestly the best £13 I think I've ever spent.

Happierwithouthim · 05/01/2020 13:25

Wolf Star

I've a full laundry basket but just not got the will to go put on a wash yet.

Going to tackle paperwork in kitchen & countertops.
Playroom is looking ok & dc will have task of putting new toys into it later.
Ds has play date over now & dd will have one at 3pm

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 05/01/2020 13:28

Hello to more newbies, I can't keep up, the thread is so chatty, lovely though!

So back to work/school for us tomorrow, all the dcs stuff is ready, my ipad is changing and I need to sort out my bag, which will take me about 5 minutes. I also want to sort my clothes for the week.

I already have my lunch for 2 days, lentil and sweet potato curry, there was loads left over last night!
I noticed that last year I would get fed up of cooking and by Friday I just wasn't in the mood to cook, which meant spending £12-20 on take out, which is money I could have saved.
So I'm going to try cooking more clever.
My longest days are Tues and Thurs.
My idea is to cook 2 meals on Mondays and Wednesdays using a base and adapting it.
So my meal plan (I will have vegan versions)
M- spag bol (cook all the mince and make mash)
T- shepherd's pie and mixed veg
W- chicken (cook extra) and rice, veg
T- chicken wraps, with peppers, onions and salad.
F- left over salad with pitta pizzas.
Does anyone else do this? And does it work out ok?

Wolf, does your contigo cup leak at all?

Wolfcub · 05/01/2020 13:31

Curvy, no not at all. Not even upside down in my work bag next to my work laptop whilst being bounced up and down escalators/thrown on train parcel shelves Grin

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 05/01/2020 13:35

Wow, wolf that sounds like something I need!
Does it keep coffee hot for a while?

Wolfcub · 05/01/2020 13:41

Curvy. Four hours at least. Eg on Wednesday we left home about 11am. I filled my cup about 14 mins before we left and we were out walking in the cold. We had a picnic at 2 ish. Coffee still hot. Still hot an hour later when we got back to the car and when I poured what was left into the sink when we got home at 4 it steamed in the cold air. I can also leave home at 4.55am and arrive at work at 8.50 and still have coffee I'm happy drinking. I'd be less happy with tea in it for four hours as I like my tea to be burn-your-tonsils just out of the kettle hot. So I'd have to drink that in the first two hours.

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 13:41

Spending today , Asda 25 included gifts for 2 birthdays beg Feb. Not going to go through into my dining room not on my Nellie. Morrison's for washing powder/fabric conditioner and other food stuffs 26, baby boy birth gift for coz grandchild Primark. Twin boy birthday presents as well. 26.
Keeping going, not squandering on 'bargain Christmas presents ' 🙄😁
Think a lot of new ppl will drop off the thread so it will quieten down l am sure 🤗💐🤞👏👍 it must seem like a bit house here for the regulars 🤗

Mrsmadevans · 05/01/2020 13:44

Nut house 🏠 😄 also thank you Fear for the washing powder offer heads up m'dear 💐

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 05/01/2020 13:52

Thanks Wolf, one last question!
What one do you have, or are they all pretty much the same?
I have an hospital appt on Thursday and on the way back I can pop into the shopping mall to have a look.

SnugglySnerd · 05/01/2020 13:53

Meal plan done and online shop ordered. Still using up freezer and cupboards so didn't spend much on food but typically we have run out of all sorts of other things like loo cleaner, dishwasher tablets, toothpaste, pull-ups and so on so it still ended up being quite an expensive shop.

Feeling very fed up about work tomorrow now. It's always a struggle going back after 2 weeks of lounging about eating and drinking too much over Christmas! Have got school and nursery bags eady for the dcs and will do mine this evening.

Wolfcub · 05/01/2020 14:07

Curvy I have this one because of the auto seal lock and spout cover for travel but paid about £13 for it so shop around. I think @ChristmasSeacow has a different model

northender · 05/01/2020 14:08

Mrsmad no problem with the thread being busier, where sharing ideas goes it's the more the merrier I think, just harder to keep up.
I second wolf's Contigo recommendation. Bought one for dh a year ago for his birthday & he loves it. This Christmas I bought them for ds and both my dparents. Debenhams were selling them off for £10 each which was my best festive bargain.
I will rejoin the weight loss thread too, feel very determined at the moment, long may it last!
There is some impressive cooking going on. I'm going to make some brussel sprout, broccoli & stilton soup for lunches this week. Also pizza dough for HM pizzas for tonight's tea. Then there won't be anything left from Christmas apart from some chocolate which, like life I have stashed away to ration it.
Went to a gym class this morning, since then have been sorting through stuff & trying to declutter as I go.
