I'm sorry to hear that. I find the school gate super-hard too. For the same reason actually. I think it's probably hard for a lot of people. Well done for managing without the medication.

Cagliostro · 31/08/2018 20:26

Oh god the school gate. Shudder!
Take care wreck (or should I say detective Wreck⭐️ :o), well done for coming off, not that it’s a bad thing to be on them obviously (I have been on many over the years) but you know what I mean! 💐

I am watching a very weird anime film. It’s like Ponyo on LSD.

Oh don't worry I'm friends with many of the school mums now Grin it was all in my head!

Justanothermile · 31/08/2018 20:44

Who gives a shit anyway wrecked? The further up the school they get, the less you care. There are no school gates at high school. And they walk to school by themselves before then anyway.

ChristmasSeacow · 31/08/2018 20:44

Ha ha, I clicked Cats straight off, but was obviously too oblique in my reference. Trying to be subtle, innit Grin

Lonely do glad the mortgage was okay’d, but also sorry about your FPS pain. That must be very hard to live with. Is it easier for him now the shop has closed (taking the pressure off) of us he finding it harder in other ways? He must be a bit more isolated at home.

Aw Life that’s so kind of you to offer! I don’t mind going out of my way to browse if I get a good tip-off though Wink. You were so helpful getting those trousers for me last year though (and others for looking!) as they were just coming to the end of the line and were out of stock in most stores so I wouldn’t have found them even if I’d done a tour! I fact, dd is Just growing into them now (they should have fitted months ago but she’s a bit of a squirt). Roll on autumn and the autumn wardrobe. Cag my mum occasionally bought Morrison’s stuff because she went there with ddad as he really liked it, but she doesn’t go any more. Partly because he enjoyed it so much so it’s a painful memory. Also I usually buy some on holiday when I get to tour the forrin supermarkets Grin

Posh dinner tonight. Veal Milanese with creamy tomato penne and rocket salad. Just because Waitrose sells naice veal escalopes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/08/2018 20:45

I don't know who I am anymore with the namechanges.

Jam Just do it. Use the pressure function. My grandmother used a pressure cooker and it never blew up. She did her Christmas pudding in hers too. My autoclave is basically a giant pressure cooker, never blew up on me yet. Cookies are meant to come out slightly gooey and then they harden up when they cool, I think.

That cheap asda sc will be in offer instore too.

I didn't dry the raspberries, that's why it's gone a bit soggy. Ha! I knew it would be my fault.

ChristmasSeacow · 31/08/2018 20:46

That should read DP’s pain. Ffs.

Also Wreck you’re still a bit of a sort, even with fat knees WinkGrin

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 31/08/2018 20:54

Hello, sorry for the confusion! I meant to add more in my post but got distracted by kids/housework/life. Yes, I am Cag's friend. Grin

These threads move so fast, I find it hard to keep up. I will try to post at least once a day to keep accountable of my frugal ways.

Laska5772 · 31/08/2018 21:00

Aw F*k i still dont get who it is... can someone pm me! (unless its someone who has recently chsanged for another reason?) its not another 'islander' I think despite I know they they like cats and boots..

Gladt you all like my mantra .. I just need to live by it myself now!

The Jamie chicken n' chorizo veggie tray bake was really yum!!

My elbow still feels like it is burning up (ruddy wasps, what use are they? )

Laska5772 · 31/08/2018 21:01

oh a cross post! Ok, no worries , I know now! Hi Cags friend!1

Justanothermile · 31/08/2018 21:04

laska I was stung by a wasp a couple of weeks ago while I was running. It was right at the top of my thigh. It really swelled up and was pretty painful for a couple of days, enough for me to take antihistamine and some ibuprofen, I had cellulitis a couple of years ago so I was a little bit paranoid. Do expect quite a lump and discomfort, just ensure the swelling doesn't spread.

QuitelovesStrictly · 31/08/2018 21:10

Oh fab Fluffy
Didnt know that- will pop into Asda .
I was stung by a wasp about 7 years ago and every now and then it flares up again.
Most odd.

QuitelovesStrictly · 31/08/2018 21:12

Wasps actually chomp on lots of annoying insects wot eat your plants Laska

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/08/2018 21:17

God the school gates. Urgh. I have to walk through both yards now.

Well done wreck on the med reduction.

Sorry to hear that lonely. That's tough when it's both.

ememem84 · 31/08/2018 21:21

To clarify. I’m not cats and boots. But I love both cats and booots. And saying boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats. Sounds like I’m beatboxing.

I am drank. Walked home from work. Dh had a pink gin and tonic ready for me. Then we had another while we played with ds in the garden. He found a leaf. And was super proud of it.

Then a couple of wines with Dm. Now feel draaaaaaank.

Dh is in bed watching black panther.

Cagliostro · 31/08/2018 21:26

I am assuming the name comes from what Siri says when you ask it to beatbox 😉 (try it. Then try asking Siri “why can’t you divide by zero”)

Great news on the mortgage progress lonely. Sorry to hear your DP isn't doing too good at the moment.

Another visit sounds a good idea em

Sorry to hear things are crap at work life.

Struggling to keep up with the thread at the moment so sorry not to comment much.

Busy few days here with my new job. Two NSDs then would have been another but DP suggested dinner out.

New job seems ok although still not got everything set up to do the job. It is a completely different world though to my previous work life.

In other frugal news, my old job of four months did sign me up for a pension as I got the paperwork finally and I paid about £10 in total in. So I reckon once I retire I might get a pension of about 1p a month from it. Ha!

meadow if you are lurking, how are you doing?

mammynowanauntyIRL · 31/08/2018 21:43

The name changes are baffling me too Grin

Lovemaltesers · 31/08/2018 21:50

catsandboots- did you used to be a fire breathing animal? I wonder if I never clocked your nc after that name!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 31/08/2018 22:59

Dd got stung by a wasp this year and it's made every venture outdoors that little bit more stressful since, I bloody hate them! ! I know they eat bugs but why sting people unprovoked? !!!

Just had a loooooong catch up with a friend on the phone so that was lovely.

The school gate mums thing is nonsense really, glad I'm out of all that now.

Must . sleep.

thistimenextsummer · 31/08/2018 23:01

Very busy day today ending with an end of summer days cinema trip - about £24 all in.

This morning I did actual baking! Dd was delighted that i was attempting domestication Grin. I trialled the weighing eggs method. Two eggs were 118g so did the same with the other ingredients. The mixture was much thicker than the (very few) other times I've baked and when I checked a recipe online it said to use 2 eggs with 100g of everything else so I suppose if I had have done that instead there would have been more runny egg iyswim? Anyway, the cakes were blummin delicious! Very light and fluffy! However the ones at the back didn't rise as well and were a much darker colour (not quite burnt Wink) - is this because I used my top oven rather than fan? Or simply because I guesstimated 20 minutes? Either way it was a lovely activity and made the difference between having to turn up to a picnic with crust sandwiches or going to the shop to buy an emergency contribution!

WreckTangled · 01/09/2018 06:19

It wasn't really the school gates tbh as my dc get a bus Grin it was just a feeling of everyone hating me. What brought it to a head was on DD's first sports day I didn't have anyone to sit with, only knew one mum, so sat with her and just felt so awkward as she was with other people (people who are now my friends!) and then ds ran down the track (he was 2) and another mum had to get him because I physically can't run. I just cried the whole way home and phoned the dr. Actually it was girlie who said it sounded like anxiety as in the evening I would be sitting there and my heart was just beating so loudly I couldn't even think so would just have to go to bed. I probably never would have done anything about it without you lot Smile

Anyway. I've woken up annoyingly early today but I'm not bothered because I'm off to Ikea woo hoo!

SnugglySnerd · 01/09/2018 06:20

I think there have been a lot of wasps this year. More than usual. Must be all that hot weather.

I'm up with the dts and I can hear dd1 snoring through the ceiling! We are watching Mr Tumble and DD2 is copying all the signs and doing animal noises. Cute!

I'm really stressed about going back to work. Totally unprepared. It's so hard with little dcs to get anything done. I've been trying in the evenings but I'm so tired and they still aren't always sleeping brilliantly. Having said that it's a bit better now the mornings are darker. Ds slept until 6 today! Roll on the clocks going back... (sorry).

WreckTangled · 01/09/2018 06:25

Snuggly I know this won't help for this year but next year might it be worth seeing if you can get a few days of childcare? I know teachers I know full well they don't get the whole holidays 'off' so no wonder you're struggling. Or could dh take a couple of days so you can do some planning?
