Ooo! yes, thanks Cag. Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/08/2018 17:14

Wreck, if you haven't already frozen it slice the loaf up and freeze the slices separately.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/08/2018 17:15

Vag Grin

Em she needs to be seen asap. Hope things are ok though.

WreckTangled · 29/08/2018 17:19

Thanks life I sliced it first Smile

Ooo pitta pizza I like those. Haven't done them for ages. Or puff pastry pizza using ready made pastry (natch)

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/08/2018 17:21

Oh my at the bottle opener em 😮 hope your dm is okay, I thought meningitis but I also get those symptoms with a migraine.

jam does he know how to cook a chicken breast? Things like chicken casserole are fairly easy and healthy, I cheat and use a chicken casserole mix sachet which you can pick up for about 50p in aldi/lidl. If he made a big saucepan of it could do him a few dinners.

I lived on chicken at uni that and marmite on toast 😂

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/08/2018 17:26

Spent £10 a school pe hoodie for dd, am pleased as she needs it for school and new they are nearly £30, this one came up on fb and looks brand new.

Do not blame me if this thread has you all buying instant pots.

ChristmasSeacow · 29/08/2018 17:43

Will do Take, hope it goes well. And hope DM is okay Em.

JAM I’d say risotto - oven baked is defo easiest. This bacon and leek one is cheap and tasty and the technique can be easily adapted to other veg /meat bits;

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1120679/ovenbaked-leek-and-bacon-risotto

(I like it with leftover roast chicken and whatever herbs /veg eg thyme and mushroom)

How about some tray bakes? Sausages /chicken legs with roasted veg - root veg are pretty cheap in winter, or Mediterranean veg if he finds peppers, aubergines or whatever at a good price.

And maybe a good casserole with dumplings. And maybe a posh casserole too (coq au vin /coq au Riesling isn’t too expensive to make) for when he’s in the mood for faihn daihning.

I also think it’s worth being able to make a decent pudding or two. There may be times when he’s out to impress... Wink

Cagliostro · 29/08/2018 17:56

My first thought was risotto too (actually might suggest that to DH for tonight since the chicken didn’t show!) thanks seacow for the oven link as I would find it very difficult to keep stirring one on the hob.

Spent almost £50 on Amazon, baby crayons 😍 a few home ed stationery bits and bobs and some kindle books - a Japanese textbook and some bible stories because we are going to read them together (we are all atheists but the stories come up a lot in life and are good to know, I feel)

I was brave and started making enquiries for finding a dentist. Eeeeeep.

OMG ACTUAL TANTRUMS from the baby this afternoon. I’m such an evil mummy for not letting her climb onto the window sill. Fucksake.

Place marking
Will catch up on old thread & post later

Spend today
€2.50 on a coolmore choc fudge cake to mark end of summer holidays SadGrin
tayto will know these cakes are yummy

Cagliostro · 29/08/2018 18:02

Saved maybe £15 by buying the books on kindle so I’m pleased with that, especially as it also means less shelf space required. And the textbook should work well on the iPad (I do have a kindle paperwhite but that’s a smaller screen). We’ve been learning hiragana on various apps so far but time to whack it up a notch :o

Also jam sausage stew and jambalaya type stuff, toad in the hole, and bechamel is versatile too. What about brunch type things for weekends like French toast. I’m just making myself hungry now. Sorry if I have duplicated anything I can’t scroll back now.

My bolognese is smelling gooooooood.

Keep meaning to ask what are these liners y’all keep mentioning for baking? Is that just sheets of baking paper?

Oh and I’m feeling all smug because this getting the kids doing their own laundry lark is totally working. DD1 just texted me from gym asking “can I put a wash on when I get home as I need stuff for the sleepover on Friday” winning! #makingmemoriesofdoingtheirownsoddingchores

Oh yes making a béchamel is essential. I had to teach myself Hmm but once you've got that you can do lots.

Thatsnotmybookworm · 29/08/2018 18:29

Spends today £11 on PJs and a shorts, t shirt and sweatshirt set for DS; well reduced and plenty big for next year.

Hope DM is ok @em.

QuitelovesStrictly · 29/08/2018 18:30

Cag
The liners are shaped like the tins .
You can get 25 for about 99p on Home bargains .
They are brilliant and your tins stay nice and clean.
I ice in mine and it captures all the drizzles 😜

Lovemaltesers · 29/08/2018 18:30

Thanks for the new thread. Placemarking for now

Started new job today. I kind of have my own office, although a walk through to someone else's office #notreallythatimportant

mammynowanauntyIRL · 29/08/2018 18:43

Thr 5 P's used to be a regular Friday evening dinner here peppers/pesto/pepperoni(chorizo actually)/pasta stir fry chorizo and peppers while pasta is cooking and then mix together and grate on loads of Parmesan Grin

Cagliostro · 29/08/2018 18:45

Ooh exciting love congrats!

Cheers quite they sound awesome! I've not bought any tins or anything yet as so much else needs buying so I was thinking of focusing on muffins/fairycakes first as we already have the tray for that.

Although I am also very keen to learn flapjacks before the clubs start back as they make such filling snacks. What do I cook them in?!

Cagliostro · 29/08/2018 18:46

lovingitvegan.com/vegan-white-sauce-bechamel/ Vegan white sauce. I use plain veg oil & mix everything in while its cold, then whisk on the hob. Takes minutes. Obviously you'd all use cows milk.

Hope you liked it Love.

WreckTangled · 29/08/2018 18:51

Cag you need SoupDragon's recipee* and any old tin really. The one I use is about the size of an a4 piece of paper

SnugglySnerd · 29/08/2018 18:58

Thanks Cag!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/08/2018 19:17

A small casserole dish works for flapjack/oat cake.

Wolfcub · 29/08/2018 19:19

Cag thank you for the new thread

Sea try attach-a-tag they are brilliant and I’ve been using them for a few years. Even better when you have more than one child as you will get more value out of the attacher thingy

Everything goes in the dishwasher here.

Off to catch up
