wolf sinus pain sucks I have sympathy. Xx

That exhibition sounds fascinating. It’s something that would freak me out but I’d love to go. I remember seeing the autopsy show (with the creepy German guy) on tv and being totally freaked but absolutely fascinated at the same time.

I’m currently reading the tattooist of auschwitz. Sad.

The Guernsey literary and potato peel society is worth a read.

Also the girl before.

Wolfcub · 09/09/2018 09:43

I love the Guernsey book Em but i won’t go and see the film because I feel like they will spoil it

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 09:43

Ive just looked at the Eleanor Oliphant reviews-some people just didnt get it .
I loved it - it was utterly tragic in places but also very funny.
I like the look of Three things about Elsie so might go for that.
It reminds me of one of my favorites.
Mrs Palfrey at The Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor (not that one!)
Love all of her books

TakeItSlow · 09/09/2018 09:58

I don't know Quite. Tbh I'm so pleased to have an independent woodwind shop within cycling distance that I try to take all my business there and just don't look online. They have a used wooden instrument that is £250, but I don't have £250 in the budget. Getting one for £30 postage is much better right now.

TakeItSlow · 09/09/2018 10:07

We're hurtling toward the end of the thread now. How does that happen so quickly?

Bornlazy · 09/09/2018 10:08

Morning everyone.

Spent yesterday in hospital dealing with my Aunt who’s diabetic and had a very high blood sugar level following a dose of steroids. She was discharged home that night even though her sugars were still high as she’s got a GP appointment on Monday.... so I will need to pick up the slack today and make sure that everything is ok. Other than that it will just be the usual Sunday getting ready for work/school on Monday. Hoping for a nsd.

Quite glad you got the soup maker - it is unbelievably easy to use. What kind of books do you prefer? I used to read loads but not so much now. If you like thrillers then Karin Slaughter is brilliant.

Wolfcub · 09/09/2018 10:09

Quite it’s the utterly tragic aspect of the book that I don’t think I can deal with at the moment.

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 10:41

I think I know it Take DSB was at Uni and got the musical genes .
Street beginning with R?
That is very unlike them to try to sell like that given their charity work. (On the website)

Thats fair enough Wolf Flowers
Ive read Karin Slaughter but got a bit fed up in the end and prefer a bit of Nordic Noir Wink

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/09/2018 10:51

Oooo like the book recommendations, I've just finished The Woman in White which I really enjoyed, the first classic I've read in ages. Am now working my way through the bill bryson books again, it's been about 20 years since I first read them. They are very funny.

Thanks north I'm trying to keep an open mind, it doesn't surprise me that my neck is a bit knackered as I've had problems with neck pain all my life even when I was a child! I think my arm is starting to feel a bit better though so that's a massive relief.

Not a lot planned today, mums offered to take us out for lunch so that will be nice and want to get out in the garden for a bit.

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 10:54

I have so many books but cant "settle" on one 😂😂😂
Really dont want to buy anymore and our library opens once a week thanks Tories so I cant get to it.
Will make a decision and just bloody read something Smile

Cagliostro · 09/09/2018 11:00

All this book talk is making me wistful. I used to read a fair bit, and of course working in the library I had loads of choice and recommendations from customers etc. Sometimes a book would just call to me while shelving. Or it wouldn’t fit on the shelf so I’d feel sorry for it and take it home rather than put it on the overflow 😳 but I hardly read at all now. I really need to make time for it.

Wreck imagine if you lost him on the rides though? Having to explain he fell off the Vampire or something 😬😱😳 agree taking photos “from the bear’s perspective” would be good. You could get a pic of DCs holding him plus the tickets/map or something.

Or, write that bear was too nervous of heights to go so he stayed home. And then take pics of what he did with the house to himself, playing board games with the other teddies, helping himself to biscuits etc

ememem84 · 09/09/2018 11:04

Board games cag? Surely class bear had a wild party...? Or played poker?

Haha. When we were kids on holiday in France the cottage came with a doll who we named Pierre. Pierre used to get up to all sorts of mischief at night time as a consequence of Dm ddad and dgodmother having too much wine...! H

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 11:04

What do we think of Yankee Candles?
I keep seeing them raved over but Im not keenunderstatement
Aldi has those fake JM ones atm.£1.99 for a small one
Really nice ,I got Basil and Neroli for the bathroom and its lovely .They had Blackberry and Bay and another one as well.

ememem84 · 09/09/2018 11:06

First part of self care done. Nice hot shower. Dressed. And dh and ds are off to see fil. With any luck they’ll be gone for a couple of hours. Sounds awful but I’m feeling rotten so cannot be bothered with any of it today.

Curse you germy child.

Cagliostro · 09/09/2018 11:21

Oh gawd total first world problem/humblebrag here 😳 but I’m getting a bit freaked out by how many people want piano lessons. Lots of people I taught before plus a load of other friends/newbies through recommendations. Money will be epic, I charge £10 (MUCH less than if they went private which reflects the fact that while I’m experienced - and of course especially with SN which many of my pupils have - I am not actually a qualified teacher) so equates to £20 an hour for doing a job I love, at home with no travel or childcare costs AND none of the manual handling that made the library job (for like £8ph) impossible due to my health issuesz It’s a no brainer... but OMG how do I fit it all in?! Everyone has been so patient while I had the baby and moved etc.

Hoping that DH will know in the next couple of weeks about his new shifts. I need to fit it in without it ending up with the Caglets missing out on other stuff. I’m wondering if DH ends up with regular days off would it be better to just have one teaching day with a conveyor belt of lessons rather than fitting them in throughout the week. It is a shame because a lot of the kids are friends who would love to stay and play. Also have sports club to think about (which is also a much bigger earner per hour than DH’s job - if it weren’t so dependent on weather we would expand that and coupled with me having more time for teaching would probably be better off).

Aaaaaargh stress! Nice problem to have though I know. Just want to find out what the deal is with DH’s work.

Well I was thinking of the inappropriate elf on the shelf antics you see on Facebook at Christmas em but figured possibly not for the school book 😂😳 There must be an unwritten rule about not photographing the bear in compromising positions 🤔😜

Cag that's great news that your lessons are in such demand. At least you're in control of your schedule.
My book recommendation is "The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair" by Joel Dicker. I heard about it on Simon Mayo's book club a couple of years ago & it really is a great book & brilliantly written. Quite long, but really doesn't seem it. It's been adapted for tv and has just started on Sky witness

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 11:33

Thats a nice dilemma to have Cag
Personally I would hate to work from home and have "people"in my house but then if you met my client group ...😂😂😂

The day for lessons sounds like a good plan if it wont wipe you out?
Meals/activities/home ed would be easier to manage maybe?
I would love to work in a Library

TakeItSlow · 09/09/2018 11:35

In fairness to them Quite I go in all the time and they give me free advice about how to fix my instrument myself and last week they gave me a free part because one had dropped off, and a free name label for ds's horn case. I do think they are nice people. Also it's so amazing to be able to just cycle over any time. If I had to order online with no advice I'd be stuffed.

ememem84 · 09/09/2018 11:35

@cagliostro would cagletini like this? I’ve been going grouch ds’ clothes. And we have two of these. No idea how. It’s 9-12 months. If I remember correctly cagletini is about a month younger that ds?

If she’d like it pm me your address and I’ll pop it in the post x

I'm zonked today. I keep waking up at 2am and not getting back to sleep. I've given up and gone back to bed as I'm meant to go to this orchestra this evening and I'll be asleep on their floor at this rate.

QuitelovesStrictly · 09/09/2018 11:43

Yes they are lovely people Take
Been there years and DSB also had lots of help.
Thats why I was surprised at £500 .
Maybe once the back to school/lessons/new instrument rush settles they will have more stock.

LonelyOversharer · 09/09/2018 12:11

So, you spend money to buy instruments, loads on lessons, exams, etc. And then want to play in the local 'just for fun' orchestra. Which has people, and children of all levels and experience, and bang! You need to shell out £££ on new machines that play at a different pitch??

I had no idea. This all sounds very elitist and not at all inclusive. I'm not sure how ordinary people who aren't "born" into it could ever join in. Yes my dc have expensive instruments. Dd's flute took me nearly 2 years to buy, a little each week. Sad But to think if she wanted to go on to play in a "fun" orchestra we might have to start again...

cag you can get basic screen printing kits on amazon. It's a lot of fun. Making the screen is so much easier than I thought. You print onto this special acetate (I have lots so no need to buy that!), expose the screen after covering it with photosensitive paint, and once you wash it carefully (I used an old toothbrush to scrub!) you're good to go. My kit was from a specialist supplier (pyramid screen printing) but that was only as I needed waterproof paint that would adhere to plastic paper!

Just off to read back a bit! Been catching up on my painting this morning (really behind).

TakeItSlow · 09/09/2018 12:30

Yes it's frustrating that lonely. I recently picked up my violin after years away from it and took it to a music shop for an MOT and they said it should be thrown away and replaced too. I went back another week and a nice student who was a pro-level player had a go and said it was fine. I tried a £3000 one and it didn't seem better to me. Mine was £52. Very confusing.

The clarinet is different because it is actually out of tune, which is a real problem. Apparently 80 or so years ago orchestras used to tune to a different pitch and so all the old instruments are now redundant unless entering an orchestra that is all old instruments.

The other problem is that mine is a really classic example of the period and purrs like a Bentley when I play it. I'm really reluctant to shell out a three-figure sum for a student level instrument that sounds like a goose. But to get a lovely example of a modern pitch instrument would be £1000+ I think.

All in all, I think it is best to accept this freebie from a kind stranger and take what I get. If ds lasts ten minutes in a room filled with an orchestra I'll be very surprised, so it may be a moot point.

TakeItSlow · 09/09/2018 12:36

btw Cag that's great about the piano lessons. I think you should raise your prices!
