For financial reasons (I'm broke and have to save) I have made a deal with myself to stop my frivolous style and beauty spending for 2018.

I will only be purchasing necessities as they run out (like cleanser) or replacements for laddered tights etc. I will take myself off mailing lists so I'll have no idea when there are any offers or discounts.

I will use my imagination and pinterest to create looks and outfits without accumulating more stuff to clutter my room and my mind!

Is anyone inteseted in joining in?

Here's to a style and beauty debt free 2018 Halo

No spend still ongoing here :) I have just run out of foundation though so will have to run the gauntlet in the beauty department and not succumb to any “extras”.

Husband offered to buy me a new winter coat as mine is a bit snug atm, have declined and am determined to slim back into it sharpish!
I am struggling with boots though, I only have one pair which are now damaged and if I’m honest they’re also too narrow. Don’t want to break my no spend (especially so soon) but can’t decide if I’m cutting my nose off to spite my face?

ShoopShoop · 08/01/2018 22:03

I've heard good thanks about that Cream Sandys.

Spent the day shopping with DD.

No spends for me but she was happy with her haul, spent with her Christmas money.

Underparmummy · 09/01/2018 13:37

Had to buy some mascara, ordered a red lipstick too.

Bit annoyed with myself but clothes is my real weakness and focus for no spend so not beating myself up too much.

IMissGin · 09/01/2018 18:24

Still no spending on ‘stuff’ here. I have booked holiday but experiences are allowed... I’m finding it quite liberating so far

ToothTrauma · 09/01/2018 19:25

I bought a charging pack and cable for our numerous devices. The back kept falling off our old one and I got an electric burn. Not nice!

No other spending except on food, car tax and (routine) vet bills, how glamorous.

Amazed I’ve gone a whole week without any Beauty spends. Quite pleased with myself! Only 51 to go Grin

PavlovaPlease · 10/01/2018 07:10

renarde if you have no other boots and these ones aren't repairable, get thee to the shops. They sound essential rather than frivolous.
I've had a couple of beauty buys not not even browsed for clothes so quite happy with that.

Rollerbird · 10/01/2018 12:55

I really wanted Fly london boots
Tried on some mol yesterday - and i like them. Still not going to order online at bargain price...
Ive got some flat soled black riding boots (boring) I will wear with skirts and jeans (boring)

Aph413 · 10/01/2018 13:08

I've been really strict with my no spend. To the point where I'm not letting myself buy different dental floss because I have some in the house. But I have to because the second I get to ASDA I'll be round the clothes and home section. Until I have better will power I'm going to keep using what's already in the house

ToothTrauma · 10/01/2018 13:38

Filled a basket at Cult Beauty, another at Sephora and a third at Harvey Nicks! Then closed all the tabs so feeling very virtuous. AND I’ve eaten three pieces of fruit today. Am basically Mother T

ememem84 · 10/01/2018 14:46

I Started using a new shower gel today. Molton brown pine and something. I smell like a toilet cleaner. Ick.

But I will use it up.

mammymammyIRL · 10/01/2018 15:14

em if you don't like it, it's hardcore using it up Grin

ToothTrauma · 10/01/2018 15:37

em a good way to use up grim shower gels is to decant into a handwash container and put by the sink!

ememem84 · 10/01/2018 15:52

mammy am determined to use it up. May just use double the amount per shower!

tooth great idea but I’ve got a ton of hand soap to use up too!!! No empty containers!! But will bear it in mind for future.

mammymammyIRL · 10/01/2018 16:05

Dh got a soap size of a dinosaur egg for Christmas, won't need a bar of soap until March/April I'd say, it smells fabulous!

pasturesgreen · 10/01/2018 16:37

em I use up unappealing shower gel to handwash jumpers, the smell is less offensive that way!

So far have only bought 2 pairs of socks for the grand total of £5, so not too bad. Zero spend on beauty products so far. Have itchy fingers from the temptation to bid on a silk scarf on ebay, though...Must. Not. Give. In. I only need to resist 5 more hours before the auction ends. I think I can do it. Sort of.

Have a business trip to Rome scheduled for next week which I fear will be my undoing. I'm already salivating at the prospect of visiting some of my favourite vintage shops there Hmm

IMissGin · 10/01/2018 16:50

Do you think it’s possible to do Marie kondo style getting rid of stuff while also doing no spend? Or will I end up with nothing?

ToothTrauma · 10/01/2018 17:28

I do think that’s possible, Gin. It’s all to do with not filling up space and time with purchases, and going through all the accumulated crap should help harden the heart against any future frittering.

TheFirstMrsDV · 10/01/2018 19:03

I use horrible shower gel/handwash in the mop bucket. Its not that different from floor cleaner. It smells nicer on the floor than it does on e

TheFirstMrsDV · 10/01/2018 19:04

IMiss I think decluttering can replace spending.
You get a similar buzz from both IMO

PavlovaPlease · 10/01/2018 20:49

You can def kondo and non-spend. You'll be left with things you really love and can eventually build from there.
trauma you are indeed Mother T and even inspired me to eat some fruit Grin

I just filled three baskets with new shirts before realising I've got one in my wardrobe that I prefer to all the potential new ones, so didn't check out. So proud of self.

mammymammyIRL · 11/01/2018 07:44

IMissGin definitely need to get back to Marie Kondo ing too, I find I wear more variety from my wardrobe when they are so much easier to find

ToothTrauma · 11/01/2018 17:27

Helped DM sort her own S&B stash today and came away with a liquid lip, Clinique moisture surge moisturiser, two (!) bottles of Liquid Gold and a brand-new Touch Eclat!

RESULT Grin and all for the low-low price of putting her Christmas decorations back in the loft for her.

FiveShelties · 13/01/2018 08:27

That is a result Tooth - a bargain!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 13/01/2018 09:14

I'll be returning a jumper to a shop for a refund today. I haven't been near any clothes shops since the New Year. I hope I can turn and exit the shop without giving in to temptation!

Still staying strong here. No backpack purchased 😩😁.

Need to buy some tights next week but since they're to replace ones with holes in I think that's allowed
