For financial reasons (I'm broke and have to save) I have made a deal with myself to stop my frivolous style and beauty spending for 2018.

I will only be purchasing necessities as they run out (like cleanser) or replacements for laddered tights etc. I will take myself off mailing lists so I'll have no idea when there are any offers or discounts.

I will use my imagination and pinterest to create looks and outfits without accumulating more stuff to clutter my room and my mind!

Is anyone inteseted in joining in?

Here's to a style and beauty debt free 2018 Halo

Have returned the jumper and I'm now wandering around Warehouse. Even with the sale I am not bothered. This is weird but also very liberating Grin

I needed vitamins today. I stopped and looked at the beauty counters in boots but managed to walk away and only buy my tablets. So proud of myself, that was my first real beauty buying test.

Sorry No spenders I was posting things on the wrong thread there! Blush

Pupsiecola · 14/01/2018 18:12

Just to bring my question over from the other thread, what does "shop my wardrobe" entail?

I'm in. 2017 was a very expensive year for us with an unexpected house move. We have, en famille, decided on a year of frugality.

I'm minamlist by nature but also an impulse buyer. I want to turn this on its head. I've just created a spreadsheet of items of clothing I want to buy in order to create a sort of capsule wardrobe. I'm a sucker for buying exactly the same sort of top for example. In a way it's because I know what suits me, but I'd like to round my wardrobe out. If it's not on the list, it doesn't get bought. Only got about 8 things on there anyway lol.

I, like a previous poster, bought a cracking All Saints leather jacket in the sale. And like someone else here, I've also got into podcasts. I listen to The West Wing Weekly, and The Life Coach School. Both are excellent. The LCS is great for self-improvement in terms of mindset, managing emotions etc. This may even help with the impulse buying!!

winchesterfan · 14/01/2018 18:14

I'm officially joining the no spend.
I've got a loan to pay off, a car to sort etc so I need to stop spending on clothes, shoes, bags, makeup and skincare.
I've got enough makeup to last me at least 6 months ( the basics e.g foundation) and I do not need any more clothes or shoes!! Skincare and toiletries I'm good with, I will just need to replace my face cream and face wash as they run out, I have enough shampoo to last at least 6-8 months!
I'm hoping I can keep to it.....we will see!

Pupsiecola · 14/01/2018 18:32

Are you in Winchester winchesterfan?!

Pupsiecola · 14/01/2018 18:51

We have also agreed as a family that we will only eat out once a month, and only go to the cinema once a month. Maxumum, not compulsory.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/01/2018 18:56

^I have bought moisturiser ( Superdrugs on BOGOF) I was running low so needed to replace

Some Revitalash/Revitabrow (QVC) the brow is for me eyelasg serum for DD. I'm calling it a late Christmas because I didn't have a list

In my favour, I don't like online shopping (I do online browsing then shop instore or if I really want something from M&S , I do deliver to store).
I don't look on eBay
And I don't like TKMaxx (but I love HomeSense but there's no clothes there. The Beauty products are worth a look though)^

Ohh didn't realise you'd moved Blush

winchesterfan · 14/01/2018 20:08

I am in pupsiecola

Pupsiecola · 14/01/2018 20:12

I'm not far from you if you are.

Tanaqui · 15/01/2018 07:51

I thought you were watching Supernatural, Winchesterfan!

Can I join, belatedly? I love seeing something, waiting for a sale or discount, buying it...and then nothing! I don’t even wear it! I bought 3 new winter coats because I couldn’t find the one perfect one. I have over 20 mini skirts, unopened tights, more shoes than I could wear out in the rest of my life! (Because feet don’t change size much!).

Am planning to try and wear the lovely things I have, instead of just jeans and jumpers every day.

winchesterfan · 15/01/2018 08:48

What do you mean pupsiecola?

Pupsiecola · 15/01/2018 09:51

I asked if you were in Winchester, as in do you live in Winchester, Hampshire You said "I am in". I took this to mean yes, you do although it wasn't 100% clear. Have I misunderstood?!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 16/01/2018 10:51

I'm wobbling. Some unnecessary tops have found themselves in an online basket in one of the websites I am supposed to be steering clear of Shock

Any distraction techniques anyone please? The more ridiculous, the better...

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 16/01/2018 11:18

They're unnecessary. Remove them from your basket. Close the tabs. Erase from memory.

Imagine who you'll feel if you buy them, vs who you'll feel if you don't.

ToothTrauma · 16/01/2018 12:05

Don’t do it, Martin! Do you want to be responsible for those tops? Do you want to have to make decisions about them in future? Do you want to feel guilty every time you see them in the wardrobe? Stop!

We are two weeks down! Only 50 to go Grin

Pupsiecola · 16/01/2018 12:16

I've just repurchased my magnesium & zinc supplements that I take for a neck problem. Also some castor oil but I shopped around.

What are the "rules"? Ie are we allowed to replace stuff like this?!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 16/01/2018 12:37

Ah, only 50 weeks to go! Time is flying by ToothTrauma Grin

The guilt won't be worth it, you're right Pupsiecola

I think I have been faltering because of boredom, part of the original problem.

Rollerbird · 16/01/2018 15:51

I had a pair of boots i was watching on ebay and it had 5 mins to go and no bids.
I deleted them from watching!!
I would have previously bought them. I want but dont need them!
Feel good about that!

Pupsiecola · 16/01/2018 16:26

Well done Roller!

pasturesgreen · 18/01/2018 10:45

Shit. Things have been going fairly downhill recently. Ok, my aim was no spend on beauty products in January, so not a huge commitment, but still I've managed to acquire since the beginning of the month:

  • 4 x pairs of socks (in the sale, I sort of needed them);
  • 2 x dresses (one second-hand from ebay);
  • 2 x merino wool jumpers (charity shop finds, £2 each, you can never have too many Blush);
  • 1 x boiled wool jacket (also charity shop, I doubt I'll ever get much wear out of it but my mum was with me and insisted as she said it was lovely);
  • 3 x pairs of shoes (had set out to buy a pair of ankle boots, came back with ankle boots plus two pairs of brouges );
  • 3 x pairs of earrings (two I actually love, one I bought just because I was too embarrassed to leave the shop empty handed - ffs! I'm a 30 something professional woman, I can't believe I'm typing this!);
  • 1 x L'Occitane hand cream (that's fine, sort of...I use it all the time);
  • 1 x L'Occitane gift set (in the sale, bought because I liked the pouch it came with).

That's a bit better than my usual spending patterns, but still pretty poor, particularly once it's written down. Apparently I have the willpower of a goldfish. Need to tackle the situation with more energy, though, or I'll end up buried under a pile of stuff.
